  1. 14.9 M IRON MAN III

    14.4 M THE AVENGERS

14.1 M THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

Would the more plausible reason for the lower gross be mixed reactions or stronger competition like Pitch perfect 2?

    Plus, from deadline:

Outside the Middle Kingdom, JW opened No. 1 in Belgium, Egypt, France, Indonesia, the Philippines, French-speaking Switzerland and Trinidad. There are 58 more markets to open today and tomorrow in what is already the 2nd biggest Universal opening day of

all-time in France, Indonesia, and the Philippines

EDIT: Never knew JW was going to be this huge...

I know people who went to three malls just to get a showing :o

  2. It's safe to say I loved the film.

It's a Jurassic Park film not only with awesome dinosaur action (as expected), but you also get to see the island functioning as an actual theme park. About damn time.

Action sequences were definitely thrilling and VFX was great.

Minor complaints were that some dramatic moments between the brothers didn't work out so well.

Nevertheless, one of my 2015 favorites.

  3. Solid but not spectacular for me.

The action and plot lines in general do get hard to follow sometimes, and I have a feeling some casual viewers will get a bit confused/lost through the movie.

The wit didn't seem to be very strong this time around. Audience seemed to laugh more and harder at the first one's attempts at humor.

The sometimes "been there done that" feel makes me admire the first Avengers a lot more.

Now on to the positives: there are a lot of good action setpieces, and every member gets a moment to shine. I'm sure a lot of people will be fond of Vision/Wanda soon after.

Plus, I think Spader killed it as Ultron. A nice job setting up phase 3 as well. Liking the new Avengers status quo especially.

Anyway, a solid 7.5/10 for me.

  4. Now this is how you adapt a classic fairy tale.

Seriously, this was such a feel good movie for me, as it doesn't try to be "edgy" or "hip." It just tries to tell the best Disney Cinderella story you could ever get.

Plus, my mom hasn't loved a film like this in a long time. :)

    A rock solid A.

  5. I found District 9 great, and Elysium good.

For me, Chappie is somewhere between those two.

The first hour isn't very engaging, I found the main gangster annoying, and the use of slow mo was too distracting at times.

However, VFX is top notch, Chappie is a very interesting character in himself, the second half is really good, and there are some big ideas here and there.

One of Blomkamp's strong points for me is that his films have high-stakes third acts, and Chappie continues that trend.

    7/10.
