  1. No it's not. It's a big problem.

It's not as big a problem as some make it out to be.

Saying a movie will now drop like a rock because some dvd copy found its way on the internet can't be farther from the truth. That stuff happens all the time and there is no proof whatsoever about that having any effect on box office. The majority of people who download would not have seen it in theaters anyway.

  2. Internationally, “Smaug” has eclipsed $340 million, led by strong U.K. grosses that have been on a par with “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”

According to this article AUJ was at $344m. Pretty good for DOS considering it still has Japan and it had a day less in Australia. But it's eery how similar their respective runs are...

  3. I highly doubt that's the case. Probably more down to the majority of games sites revenues being down to advertising from games companies, leading to more pressure from them to publish a good review lest they lose that revenue.

There have been bad or lukewarm reviews for major games from major gaming sites all the time, just look at the recent launch lineup for the new consoles. I wonder, if publishers have such an influence over scores, why do they let that slip? If it ever came out that reviewers are bought they would lose credibility and in turn viewership, without viewership they get less money from ads.

  4. What i'm talking about is the fact that unless the game is a new level of terrible (Duke Nukem Forever) You'd be lucky to see a big budget game go any lower than a 7/10. Compare that to film where it doesn't matter what the caliber of the film is, if it's a turd a lot of reviewers will call it a turd.

Well, everything is based on your perception of a turd. Opinions are opinions are opinions.

There are less blockbuster games than movies every year. Maybe because publishers put all their eggs in fewer baskets there's more quality control.

  5. Games reviewing is a pretty corrupt system, as a trashed review for a game such as Resident Evil 6 would have a score of 7 on IGN. If that were a Resident Evil movie of supposedly similar quality, it would get a 4 or less out of 10. The people that do reviews are so bought and paid for it's unreal, to the point that unless a review is exceptionally glowing or exceptionally negative, there is really next to no point reading most of them.

I disagree. It's a myth based on a few bad apples that tarnished the whole industry. Everytime a score is not in line with expectations of fans or haters, such accusations are brought up.
