Spider man should have a bigger drop than most movies because it will lose all of its IMAX screens after 9 PM. It should drop > 20% tomorrow.

Nope. Hancock is a better comparison. Hellboy is a purely fanboy movie with little appeal to anyone else TASM appeals to women, tweens and other demographics. Hancock made 50 million while playing parallel to TDK. TASM has four years of inflation, 3D and better WOM so I am expecting 55-60 million peformance.200+16+55=271

Good number for TASM. It will drop by about 60% next week because of IMAX loss but will stablize after that until August 10th. Hancock made $50 million while playing next to TDK and I don't think there is much of a chance that TASM will make less than that. As far as I am concerned, 265 million is happening for sure.

I think Animation market has become too crowded these days for one animated movie to have a Finding Nemo or TLK type run. Those were different days. High ticket prices are another big issue for family movies.

Big increase on first Tuesday means that it is playing well with women. This is good news for TASM's legs as it is now more likely to survive TDKR's opening.

I think the more interesting observation is that 65%+ male movies have a lower ceiling compared to 65%+ female movies. Twilight is proof that a 70%+ female movie can make a ton of money Worldwide but there aren't any equivalent examples for 70%+ male movies.

Actions have consequences. If the young female demographics is loyal to their type of movies and young males aren't then expect more movies focused on female demographics.

I can't find the link but I saw a story last week that males under 30s are the fastest declining cinema demographics in the US because of Internet piracy. Young males are most likely to illegally download movies so they rarely go to theaters anymore.

Then why bring up Box Office take? She is a good actress (melancholia proved that) but Emma Stone has a bigger profile now than Dunst ever had. There is a reason why Sony was using Emma Stone as much as Garfield to promote TASM. They know what they have in Emma Stone.

Hancock made $50 million from the time TDK opened to the end of its run. I think TASM will do slightly better as the rest of the competition is much weaker. Only one major movie will open per week from now until 10th of August which means that TASM will be able to keep its theaters longer.

I think UFC is legit. There may be some smaller shady promotions that fix fights but MMA is becoming a big time sports now and they can't afford fight-fixing.

TDKR is going to hurt TASM during its opening weekend but that's it. People here tend to go overboard with things. There is a 1:1 comparison with TDK and Hancock. Hancock dropped 56% on the TDK weekend but revived and had two back to back sub-40% drops. You will see a similar scenario with TASM and the only difference is that rest of the competition is even weaker compared to 4 years ago with only one major release per week for the next 4 weekends.
