  1. Ted stayed flat w/o midnights That's pretty impressive for any R-rated movie in June/July and it means that it has a good shot at 150+. Madea's drop is impressive as well for a fifth movie in the series.
  2. Dunno but she covers box office for LA Times and she posted it within the past hour so I am assuming she received some new numbers from the studios.
  3. Amy Kaufman ‏@AmyKinLA Big weekend at the box office: "Ted" looks to open with $52m, while "Magic Mike" way overperforms with $40m debut.
  4. This is bordering on batshit insane right now. People have conviced themselves that TASM isn't going to make any money for no reason except that they don't want it to make money.
  5. "Live Free or Die Hard" and "Ratatouille" opened the weekend before TF1's Tuesday release. They pretty much covered all 4 quadrants and made 80 million dollars combined. That didn't stop frrom kiddies, teens and adults from watching TF1. What you are saying is completely without precedent. It is one thing for you to wish but don't try to pass it off as some sort of Box Office pattern.
  6. How can they be siphoning off the adult audience if TASM hasn't opened yet. The fact is that while MM and Ted are doing good business this weekend, when was the last time two 40 million dollar openers killed off a tentpole?
  7. I think Brave will have a tough time going forward. TASM and IA4 will both take away a lot of its audiences and 3D screens. 250 is obviously not happening but 220 may not be a given either.
  8. I was half-expecting this. This may end up being one of those movies that do better with critics. Men aren't going to watch it now because of all this hype with women and if women dislike it then its ratings will tank. It will still make a good bit of profit for WB so I doubt anyone will be complaining.
  9. These sort of Fridays are difficult for holdovers but they should see a decent jump on Saturday. Brave should be able to get to 34-35 from a 10.5 Friday.
  10. Yeah but I have never ever visited worstprevwhatever.com , let alone post any links from it.
  11. Luck? He made the right choices and then was good enough to give the audiences what they wanted. No different from any other successful actor.
  12. TWBB is over-rated but DDL is great.Anyway, great opening for MM. Should make over 40+ OW. Cinemascores are going to be really interesting for the two openers.
  13. I think the numbers will hold at around 20 and 15 for the two movies. MM had a surge of sellouts for 7-10 PM shows but cooled down after that. Ted did better overall during the late night shows, I think. Madea could surprise though as I was seeing sellouts in theaters where it shouldn't be doing big business.
  14. Depends on the WOM and the competition. It may not be a sequel but there is definitely a rush factor because of Seth MacFarlane and The Family Guy.
  15. ^^^^ I know but no harm in putting their estimates here.http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118056143.html?cmpid=RSS|News|LatestNews&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitterUniversal's "Ted" is cuddling up to the high $40 million to low $50 million range, giving the Mark Wahlberg laffer a good shot at becoming the highest-opening original (non-sequel) R-rated comedy in domestic box office history.Early box office returns indicate that Seth MacFarlane's first feature film will likely earn in the high teens Friday, with a good shot at hitting $20 million.Meanwhile Warner Bros.' "Magic Mike" is grinding its way toward the low-to-mid teens today, including more than $2 million in last night's midnight grosses. That puts it well on its way to crossing into the low $30 million dollar range.Industry insiders expect grosses to drop by around 30% tomorrow, although pre-sales have made estimates tricky.
  16. Josh Dickey ‏@Variety_JLD Early B.O.: TED nuzzles $50m; MAGIC MIKE pops early, may touch $30m; MEDEA does her low-to-mid $20s thing; PEOPLE LIKE US meek with $4mil+.
  17. http://www.deadline....e-2m-midnights/ FRIDAY 4:30 PM, 4TH UPDATE : My sources now say that, based on pre-sales and matinee trends and early East Coast evenings, Universal’s Ted is wildly overperforming and looking at a whopping $20M opening today and a $50+M first weekend. This means Ted is outgrossing the original Hangover and could become the biggest original R-rated comedy on record! Also overperforming is Warner Bros’ Magic Mike which is looking at a great $15M opening today and $35M weekend. The domestic box office is exploding with early Fourth Of July fireworks. Domestic matinees for Magic Mike were “crazy”, rival studios told me. This is really reminding me and Hollywood of opening day for the first Sex And The City. (I loved Warner Bros’ marketing line to women for Channing Tatum et al that “on June 29th tell your boyfriend you’re going to the book club”). Going into this weekend, Hollywood thought Ted and Pixar/Disney’s holdover Brave would be fighting for #1 and between $30M-$35M this weekend, with Magic Mike and Lionsgate’s Tyler Perry film Madea’s Witness Protection battling for 3rd and low- to mid-$20sM. Wow, is that changing hour by hour!
  18. THRMM 14-15 millionTed 20 millionMadea 20-24 million (Weekend)http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/ted-magic-mike-box-office-343720
  19. TDKR early numbers will be crazy because I am expecting Friday 9 AM sellouts.
  20. It is doing great in the South. There were soldout shows 48-72 hours ago in parts of south.
