  1. I think it inevitable that Endgame slows down a little quicker than some of the other Marvel movies with that huge opening it had. Casual fan's of the Marvel film's like myself went out and saw it in the first few days to avoid stumbling upon spoilers, but won't necessarily watch again at the cinema.
  2. Despite their flaws, one of the best parts of the prequels were there fights. Lightsabre battles in Episode 1 and 3 were epic. Jedi actually looked decent fighters in those films. Shame they reverted back with the fighting in the new films. I recon the prequels would have done better in markets like China than the new films as they were big in scope, bit fake looking, but massive action.
  3. $10.3m is the reported 4 day opening for Solo in the UK, so quite a bit more than was mentioned earlier by rth. Even if the number is true, it's still dreadful.
  4. Solo's performance is staggering. It seems to be performing far below even the lowest numbers people predicted for it. Possibly scraping $200m overseas and $200 domestic is truly terrible for Star Wars. Is below $400m worldwide possible? This has gotta be the biggest box office flop I've ever seen for such a popular franchise.
  5. So much money wasting at Disney on Solo. Costing north of $300m, but when you watch the film, you'd think they'd have been able to make the film for half that. There are no out of this world set pieces in the film and theres no huge name actors to pay. Should have just stuck with the first directors instead of reshooting 60-80% (depending on what you read) of the film.
  6. Shockingly bad, below even the low expectations. Just goes to show, you can't just throw anything out with the Star Wars name brand even in the UK & US and expect it to dominate the box office.
  7. Painful watch seeing a Star Wars move completely fail everywhere, even in it's biggest markets of the US and UK. I don't think the failure of Solo is down to TLJ though, i think it's mainly a combination of being a simply uninteresting concept for most, one of the worst marketing campaigns ever for a "big" film and being released only 5 months after the last Star wars. Hopefully Disney thinks twice about making prequels to characters we already know the fate of, or at least if they do, make one that fans have actually called for. I'm hoping they scrap all the spin-offs now and concentration on original stories and actually include some of the things that make Star Wars cool, like f***in lightsabre battles. It's been 13 years since a decent lightsabre battle in a Star Wars film and nearly 20 years since a great one!
  8. Any indications of Thursdays numbers for UK? Seat bookings for Solo tonight at my local Cineworld look pretty good. Mostly just rubbish seats left, apart from the late show. Not looking as good at the local VUE though, but has more showtimes.
  9. Must have really needed to go. There was a lull in action right before the Darth Maul scene and I said just go no. I had no idea Darth Maul was about to enter the fray!
  10. My friend went to the toilet once during Solo, and it was for the entire Darth Maul scene. When he returned he thought I was bullshitting him.
  11. How important are Maoyan scores to box office in China? Lets say Solo started very bad like it sounds like it is going to, but got 8.5 Maoyan rating, would that help drastically?
  12. Think $140m for 4 day opening seems reasonable. BoxOffice is tracking it 4 day with same range as Deadline too.
  13. Agree with that. At VUE Star City Birmingham and Cineworld I've had Jurassic World trailers with every film I have seen since The Last Jedi.
  14. A lot bigger than the FA Cup final when England play in WC. When England play in the World Cup, you get Royal Wedding sort of standstill, even though everyone always ends up disappointed. TV viewing figures will be high, but numbers watching will be much higher as many people watch the games in pubs.
  15. Yep, Disney seems to have really messed up with marketing on this here. Think they are presuming because it's Star Wars it will just be huge anyway. But I have spoken to people who didn't even know this movie existed, let alone that it's out this week. At my local VUE, I've have not seen too many film's this year, but have not seen a Solo trailer before any films.
  16. Solo is out Thursday, but you wouldn't know it. Marketing seems to be non-existent. Next Saturday night should be a little less busier than it should as it's Liverpool vs Real Madrid in the Champions League Final.
  17. Do Deadpool and Solo really need to overperform to damage IW legs? They just need to perform as expected, which is as two $300m+ movies. Their audiences are similar so you'd think those 2 new releases will eat away at IW legs.
  18. It's crazy how Marvel is so successful still and growing, when essentially most of their films are the same, just repackaged. Superhero(s), big bad super villain enters the scene, a few jokes, lots of punching each other and blowing things up, superhero nearly loses, then superhero wins when all seems lost. And they can do this 2 or 3 times a year now! Easy money for Disney, Fiege and co. IW probably follow same formula too, but over 2 films.
  19. Isn't 2 billion worldwide still on because of how big it could go in China?
  20. It's a gargantuan success overall, but the second weekend drop % looks like it's going to be harsh. 57%-59%, which would be close to Ultron %. What's the lowest could go now? $650m? Below JW total? Sure BP is now going to probably remain the highest grossing Marvel film domestically?
  21. Was at Vue Star City Birmingham tonight. Crazy busy for a Monday, only spare seats at the very front. Deals on cheap on tickets. Cost me £3.99.
  22. If US is acting similar to the screening in UK I was at tonight, then I think Monday is going $32-$36m. Hardly a seat in sight. US and UK are kind of similar with these "event" movies.
  23. Fun film. Lots of cool stuff. I really dug it for the most part. The good things about the film are well trodden ground that tend to agree with, so I'll just mention why I think this is just a really good, but not great film. The film's "shock" ending lacked the gravitas it was aiming for as you know for a fact Marvel ain't throwing big money spinners like Guardians, Spider-Man and Black Panther away in one go like that. The reports of people walking out theatres speechless and in tears made me think Cap, Thor or Iron Man were getting genuinely fucked over in this film. Nah. Some supporting characters get the chop yeah, no huge deal. I kind of knew Marvel wouldn't have the balls to actually kill one of the big ones, which I suppose separates most superhero films from some other big non-superhero franchise films. The superheroes are the selling point, and their own security in these film's, kind of stop these film's from moving onto the next level. There were no Logan level deaths. Onto Thanos, I thought he was a brilliant villain and definite stand out of the film. I have a gripe with time stone though. I'm not a Marvel expert, but why doesn't Doctor Strange just reverse time each time something bad happens. That time controlling infinity stone is the Marvel Universe equivalent of the Lord of the Rings eagles. Anyway, all in all, a fun trip to the pictures and one of the better Marvel movies. For sure the most epic! B+ for me. Big crowd for a 2130 showing on a Monday night in the UK. Was stuck on the bottom platform part of the auditorium.
  24. The most anticipated Marvel film ever, and still nearly $20 below TFA's previews. TFA truly was a monster of epic proportions. I thought Infinity Wars would be the first film to have a real shot at getting close to those preview numbers. If Infinity War can't, it's hard to see another film getting near that $57m number.
