I've never seen Hurstville Vmax basically sell out before, and this is at 10:40pm. Might go to a late session somewhere if I'm not too tired.

Still nothing has changed. It's genuinely catastrophic at this point, >500m behind last year and we're not even two months in.
-
So far so right, Jan down ~16% from last year, worst since like 1990 in admissions.

It's accurate for year or quarter overall, but not for individual films. Also, fyi, quarterly ticket prices only apply from Q4 2009, everything before that is just the yearly average price, probably also based on quarterly, but we just don't know it. If you're interested in each quarterly price: 2009 ???? ???? ???? 7.61 2010 7.95 7.88 7.70 8.01 2011 7.86 8.06 7.94 7.83 2012 7.91 8.12 7.78 8.05 2013 7.94 8.38 7.84 8.35 2014 7.96 8.33 8.08 8.30 2015 8.12 8.61 8.25 8.70 2016 8.58 8.73 8.51 8.79 2017 8.84 8.95 8.93 9.18 2018 9.16 9.38 8.83 ????

I'm also ready for this 15 year pattern of two down years followed by an up year (in admissions) to end, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. Notice also how each up year doesn't quite reach the heights of the previous one. There's a constant, inexorable downward trend

I'm always prepared to be surprised, but it looks like we're in for another slow year at the box office, because nothing is jumping out at me as a hit, particularly in the first quarter. It gets a bit better as you go, but not by a lot.

Honestly, if no one said anything about leaks on this forum, I wouldn't even know they were a thing.

This is a silly take because the fact is that it is a big deal if there's a gay protagonist (or any other LGBT protagonist). Love Simon, released just this past March, was the first studio film to have a gay main character. It would be a huge deal if an event film sure to be a success (although maybe not as much now) would have a gay character. In the midst of a constant heteronormativity, one film doing something different is going to make waves.

But we've yet to have a gay protagonist in Star Wars, and there was a whole scene in TLJ where the rich people got their rich asses handed to them? And sure, America itself has got social problems, but what exactly do you want Lucasfilm and Disney to do about it? In the mean time, I certainly want representation in movies. Like, we can walk and chew gum at the same time.
