  1. Are you kidding me? They fired their CEO, slashed 7,000 jobs, taking content off of their streaming service to save money. Stock has fallen dramatically. Have had movie after movie fall short of break even and they have 2 huge budget films about to be released that are both looking like huge flops. Found themselves in the middle of a cultural battle that has been the nail in the coffin of many families to finally close the door to Disney films and television. Somehow the parks are a separate entity in most peoples minds and have remained somewhat unscathed but that is changing as well. That is MASSIVE TROUBLE!! Doesnt mean they can’t right the ship but that would require changes I don’t think they can make. At the very least they have to slash budgets across all sectors to account for a loss of fans to market to. That would be a start.
  2. I’m amazed at the lack of wisdom and foresight of everyone involved here. Desantis had the upper hand by blasting Disney ridiculously opposing a piece of legislation that virtually everyone but some Disney employees and the most far left of people, not talking mainstream democrats, were overwhelmingly supportive of when the law was completely explained. But then he inexplicably overplayed his hand ever since. Disney and Iger on the other hand are absolutely burying themselves by allowing this story to stay in the headlines for even 1 more second. There is NO DISNEY BOYCOTT, because Disney has finally just lost millions of lifelong fans who feel they are putting agenda driven content over creativity. Hell, they even had a leaked internal staff meeting that said as much. Millions of families, not millions of people, but millions of families who ate and slept all things Disney, who were Disneys most profitable loyal fanbase, have just flat out lost their love of Disney. It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks about that, it’s just simply a fact that Disney is going to have to acknowledge and adjust to going forward. Their pool of families to market to is now millions of families smaller than it was a few years ago. Everyday that Iger continues this battle is a reminder of Disneys “political agenda” that started this battle in the first place. STUPID LEADERSHIP for him to do this. Disney is in such deep deep trouble and they don’t even know it yet.
  3. In my world, here in the Dallas Metroplex, we know many, many families who aren’t taking their kids to see this movie, and are very disappointed they won’t be going. Nobody is telling other people to boycott Disney or anything like that, they/we just aren’t ready to have the talk with our small children after a same sex kiss in an animated movie.
  4. 200 is too low domestic. Its looking like at least 240 right now.
  5. Are you kidding me? There are people on these forums who only show up when a Disney or Pixar movie comes out just to endlessly blast the film and Disney. You seriously want to argue that DM3 is so good it's beyond criticism? I took my wife and kids to see it. I'm not an ILLUMINATIONS HATER, but I will give an honest assessment of the film unlike some of you who hate Disney so much that you've latched onto Illuminations as your rival to Disney. If we state a fact that many of the Illumination films are short on story and character development and rely on slapstick humor you take that as being a HATER. Get over it!!!! Thats what they do best, but it's not some of us cup of tea. Thereby because it's human nature to see things through our viewpoint, we don't understand the success. That's not being a hater. Thr problem with DM3 is that it doesn't even succeed in doing what Illuminations does best. It's boring and not very funny. Unlike even Minions, which wasn't very good, most of the gags fall flat. The series is past it's high point, that's a fact. It's going to finish 100 million at least under DM2 domestically and under its OS total as well, but will still be EXTREMELY financially successful. The next film will be considerably down OS and probably struggle to 175-200 domestic. But will still make butt loads of cash. BTW, I also was disappointed with Cars 3 as well. I love that franchise because it has been such a big part of my children's lives and I hate to see Pixar ruin Cars legacy. I can't quite understand why they can produce genius sequels for Toy Story twice, but IMHO, have failed with every other sequel. Baffling.
  6. I'm so lost trying to figure out OS market. I understood that OS market typically goes for animated films with silly/stupid humor and being funny is FAR more important than ground breaking storytelling. That's totally understandable and Minions, DM2 and Pets definitely tapped into that. But DM3 isn't crowd pleasing like the previous efforts. It's slow, boring and unfunny. That's a cardinal sin for this type of films target audience. Its just not very good!!!
  7. I don't get it. I saw DM 3 with my kids and it's barely watchable. Is heavy marketing OS all that matters?
  8. I gotta say I disagree with your assessment but you might be right. let me tell you why. This movie commits a cardinal sin for an Illuminations film!! Whatever you wanted to say about other Illuminations movies lacking story or cleverness, the had so many crowd pleasing moments and were just plain funny. This movie was both boring and unfunny. The first one in the franchise to be boring and unfunny. No way it has the same legs as Minions which had so much going for it.
  9. I think it can definitely go 45 more OS and 75 domestic. It's 4 day memorial weekend gross will be a big determiner in where it finishes domestic.
  10. Nobody loves a great Pixar movie more than me, but boy the hype really seams to be gone right now. I don't sense that the "hey, let's all go see the next Pixar movie" attitude still exists. Having a year off from any release has hurt.
  11. Anyway, if you look at the numbers it doesn't seem like Sing can pass Moana in Japan. Moana is basically 8 million in front of Sing and weekends after this will be virtually even. Moana could even pull ahead slightly. Still, strong performances from Illuminations and another lower than expected performance in Japan by Disney. Seams like animation taste is changing in Japan. Used to be that quality always excelled and they didn't really go for "gag" humor.
  12. Illuminations has really established a consistent box office performance in Japan and The UK. Thats a big deal!!
  13. Hades what are you talking about? Im the guy who always defends Peabody and Sherman and even The Lorax. I'm just speaking factually and I in no way am I bagging on Sing or Pets. I tend to root for ALL animation and have stated that taking sides is stupid. Know what your talking about next time!!! Check your anti-Disney bias and stop assuming others have the same childish "side-taking" opinions that you have.
  14. Just hearsay talk and it was widely discussed that the Pets and Minions marketing budgets were humongous, coupled with the fact that there is no comparison in terms of how many commercials are run for an Illuminations film as compared to a Disney film. No hard facts but what I mentioned isn't exactly non factual. I think Sings domestic run is really good. A really good OS run to match would have been about 425 giving it a WW of about 700. It might not even reach 350 OS. Youre honestly arguing that 350 is a fantastic OS run these days for animation? Let me just check Pets, Inside Out or Zootopias OS run which are all original animation releases in the last 2 years. I feel like Moanas OS run has been just OK, and it still has a shot at 400 OS, so how could I personally label Sings struggle to get to 350 as EXCELLENT. Its just a bit disappointing for me but part of that is because of OS performance of recent ILLUMINATIONS releases.
  15. We aren't talking profit margin. Obviously Illuminations has got a winning formula going in terms of budget. Im not bagging on Sing. It's domestic run was very good and it's OS was not a failure by any means, but to label 350 OS EXCELLENT is ridiculous. Also, when marketing budgets are thrown in, these Illuminations films ARENT half of the Disney budgets. Their marketing budgets are STAGGERING!!!
  16. MinaTakla you should be a political spin professional!! Lol There is nothing "EXCELLENT" about an animated film struggling to make 350 OS from a studio that has been hitting home runs. Its decent/mediocre but it's definitely not EXCELLENT, no matter how you want it to be. Just like Moana struggling for 400 OS is decent and not EXCELLENT.
  17. By disappointing or mediocre we are talking in terms of its OS gross. Its domestic is just fine, but it won't be even close to Croods OS gross and could very well not make it to 350 OS, which is a disappointment.
  18. So Illuminations trolling Disney with its release dates can't be a coincidence can it. Every Illumination release is 2-3 weeks after a Disney animation release. So far it's worked for them because each movie since DM2 has had a virtually competition free run AND has lost much money for Disney. Moana has proven to be a much more loved film, but Sing will finish with a slightly bigger box office ONLY because of its uncontested holiday run. Kudos to Illuminations for intelligent strategy and BOY Disney is being idiots about not countering that strategy.
  19. so Moana and Sing open on back to back weekends. Anyone have a feeling on which movie is tracking higher?
  20. Moana opens this weekend. 55-60 million will get Moana to 400 million OS. Is that looking possible?
  21. Strange year for animation. Looks like Moana will most likely beat Sing WW and it will definitely beat Sing OS, while Sing will finish about 20 million ahead of Moana domestically. Totally opposite of what most people, including me, would have predicted.
