  1. It's also got the record for biggest theater drop. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/chart/biggest_third_weekend_num_theaters_drop/?ref_=bo_csm_ac
  2. As both the highest grossing and best reviewed nominee, it would have been unprecedented for it not to win.
  3. Historically, the award has always gone to either the highest grossing nominee or the best reviewed. Either way, TS4 is the expected winner.
  4. You'll notice that that figure comes from Olaf measuring himself. He probably lined up all his parts end to end so he'd be as tall as possible.
  5. So why does all the promotional stuff I've seen for this recently say that it was "nominated" for an Academy Award? Do they not realize that they won?
  6. I've added this year's nominations to my ongoing graph, and based on past performance, there appear to be two serious contenders: the one that made all the money, and the one that actually deserves it.
  7. It's just like how the three games that were the main settings of the first movie were originals, while all the minor ones were real-world games.
  8. Recently had the chance to see it in my local 70mm IMAX theater. While the giant screen was nice for a few scenes, it didn't really add much value to the movie as a whole. Also, it turns out that film is not always superior. During the silent scene, I could clearly hear the projector clicking away, which kind of spoiled the moment.
  9. When you want to correct an imbalance, you need to pay attention to the things that form that imbalance.
  10. I think that reaction says more about you than about the movie. Key line: "People might just need a little old fashioned."
  11. I wouldn't hold out too much hope, given that they still call animation a genre.
  12. The Resistance cruiser was one of the largest capital ships around. Rogue One shows us what happens when a fighter or transport hits a capital ship while jumping to lightspeed: it just splatters on the shields.
  13. On the one hand, sequels to breakout hits tend to decrease. On the other, popular series finales tend to increase (see SW OT, SW PT, HP). The question is which trend will dominate for Avengers.
  14. It was a movie. There were parts I liked, parts that were tedious, and a lot of parts I've already forgotten. Not essential viewing.
  15. I'm one of those who didn't show up to Justice League, and that certainly was one of the reasons.
  16. Half joke, half low end of expectation. I actually think A < A2+A3 < 1.5A is more likely.
  17. I think most of my problems with this movie stem from the fact that I watched thinking of it as a superhero movie, when it isn't one. Sure, it has "Avengers" in the title, and has a couple dozen heroes, but the movie isn't about them. It's all about Thanos. It's a supervillain movie, and a fairly good one.
  18. I figure that while he was all-powerful by human standards, Thanos had encountered something like him before, and knew of a weakness.
