My Brother is a great song, best song from the film.
Back when I first watched the movie in English, it was merely another boring pop song. After watching the movie in Japanese, and hearing the instrumental piece it replaced, I find it difficult to refer to that song without using at least one expletive.

As far as I can tell, it isn't that the studios want PG; it's that the MPAA no longer gives the rating to anything but the most innocuous films. If it has anything that anyone anywhere might object to, it doesn't get a G.

MAY I JUST REMIND YOU OF THE MARS MOVIE CURSE...
It has killed great movies like John Carter, why should this here be an exception...
John Carter was killed when they removed "of Mars" from the title.
Other than that, name two other good Mars movies that did worse than they deserved.

Got a G rating
It's about time a kids movie got a kid-friendly rating lol
I believe that makes it the first non-documentary G-rated movie of the year.

I wonder how much Shaun is gonna affect IO, which will pass JW's comparative dailies today and is closing in on American Sniper's cumulative tally. It has a lot of life left for a film in less than 2k screens.
I expect it will be somewhere between the effect The Nut Job had on Frozen, and the effect The Lego Movie had on Frozen. That is to say, somewhere between nothing and nothing.

Physical media may decline, but it's not going away any time soon for one simple reason:
You can't wrap a download and put it under the tree.

Has there been a more publicized pair of shoes than the ones in JW? I would say Ruby Slippers and thats about it.
Those were just as much of a movie abomination as these high heels.
(They're silver, dammit!)

What game?
The game where it's $29 million ahead after 12 days after being $25 million ahead on OW?

Guys, what's your expectations for Minions in China?
Some say 1 billion Yuan, others say 500 million Yuan, and some are in between 600-700 Yuan
Thoughts?
Edit: in Chinese currency not USD
500. Not million, just 500.

Looks like I'm going to have to raise the ceiling again.

Really? That's surprising because the reason I've avoided watching Nausicaa for so long is because I've constantly been hearing that it is a more simplistic view of the conflict between nature and industrialization/capitalism than Mononoke, which made me think Nausicaa would be disappointing and one of my least favourite Ghiblis, especially as Mononoke is one of my favourite films. Not just among my favorite Ghibli films or favorite animated films but favorite films.
Your post has definitely aroused my curiosity for Nausicaa though. Think I should really give it a watch now.
What you really want is the Nausicaa manga. The movie basically takes the first volume, and tacks on an ending. That one volume, taken alone, is fairly simplistic. The real complexity comes in the remaining six.

I hope Sandler dies in a plane crash. Seriously.
Why the hell is this parasitic menace still allowed to poison cinema?
That's going a bit far. Some embarrassing medical condition that causes him to quietly withdraw from in front of the camera would do just fine.

Who even buys music anymore? With streaming services it's pointless.
Believe it or not, there are still people in the world who do not have unlimited high-speed 24/7 internet access.

Any issues of tone is immediately offset by dinosaurs. It's very hard to miss out with dinosaurs.

So JW isn't going to top TA total gross.
It's going to pass TA easily.

Moana, $400M ?
Way too bullish.
Agreed. Tangled, Ralph, and Hero have set a fairly clear baseline for what we can expect from a generally well received Disney animated feature: $200M ± 10%. For Moana, I'd expect a modest Princess boost, for $250-300M. Going above that would require exceptional circumstances.

Doesn't the El Capitan only have one screen? Are the tickets especially high there or is it just selling out like bonkers at the moment?
1 screen, about 1000 seats, and a general admission adult ticket costs $18. Tickets for the good seats cost more.

Are those good numbers for IO and JW?
It's a 15%-22% week-to-week drop for JW; 16-24% for IO.
