  1. Love these countdowns, but I have to ask... Why give the numbers in units of millions, only to extend each number 6 decimal places? ?
  2. If it opens it summer, it could open bigger (but A:IW2 comes out earlier that month, doesn't it?), but will it even have legs against all the summer competition?
  3. I'm surprised Wreck-it Ralph didn't do better than it did. Sure, the movie focused largely on American and American-inspired gaming characters, but I would have thought they'd milk AKB48's recording of "Sugar Rush" as well as their music video of it for all they were worth. Heck, wasn't the Japanese title of the film even changed to "Sugar Rush" over there? Anyway, yeah. Big Hero 6 *should* easily end up the #2 Disney Animation Studios film over there after its initial run. So much going for it, I'll be surprised if it falls amongst the crowd and fails to surpass Dinosaur.
  4. What are the top 5 Disney Animation Studios films in Japan (and their Japanese grosses)? I feel like between some of the Japanese elements/inspiration as well as riding on the coattails of Frozen, Big Hero 6 is practically guaranteed to become the #2 Disney Animation Studios film over there.
  5. You're all looking only at the numbers and charts. You're forgetting that the Black/White (Unova) movies sucked, and they even rushed through the generation and undoubtedly canceled what should have been a feature film about Meloetta. When the movies are bad, that impacts the perception of the following movie(s).Obviously I haven't seen the new movie yet, but the XY anime series is off to a decent start so far.
  6. I wonder what the Japanese grosses for all the WDAS films are... Maybe we can make a pie chart to see how much of that is Frozen lol
  7. Ash Ketchum has gotten annoying, at least in the English dub, but I would imagine some of that stems from the source as well. And it's not a charming annoying like usual, it's a real annoying. It wouldn't surprise me if the new film bucks the trend of surpassing the previous. That said, new games come out this fall: OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire. Oh wait, those are remakes of the games that yielded the weak-performing Advance series movies. Sigh. This is why they should bring back Misty and Brock.
  8. The Japanese Pokémon movies and anime series are so lucky. I wonder what it's like to not have to get used to new voice actors for Ash, May, and Brock.
  9. Doesn't hurt that they provide incentive: Each pre-order ticket comes with the ability (via infrared or serial code) to download an exclusive Pokemon to their 3DS game, usually with special "event" moves or traits, that can't be obtained by any other means. In 2012, it was a Keldeo holding a PP Max. In 2013, it was a Mewtwo holding a Custap Berry and knowing the moves "Hurricane" and "Heal Pulse." This year, it's a Darkrai holding an Enigma Berry and knowing the move "Phantom Force." These event distribution Pokemon are so coveted by players -- even international players -- that I have to rely on a friend in Japan to get them for me and trade them to me online for a fair exchange, lest I be ripped off by scalpers in some online trading forum. And that's just the presale incentive. There's an additional exclusive event Pokemon download for anyone attending the movie, presale or otherwise. 2012, Meloetta. 2013, Genesect. This year, it's the newly revealed Diancie. For the record, the pre-order and attendance incentives for the aforementioned M11 were Regigigas and Shaymin, respectively. It would be the only way to obtain a Japanese Shaymin for nearly two years.
  10. Those are U.S. sales numbers, where the 3D Blu isn't even out yet. All signs point to the latter half of October.
  11. Looks like Tangled opened March 12, and Wreck-it Ralph opened March 23, so it's not unprecedented for Disney, but I don't know the logic behind how they handle their non-November releases. Or even the logic behind the November>March releases.
  12. 2012 was the Keldeo movie I mentioned being awful, Kyurem and the Sword of Justice. Even by the dropping standards of Pokemon films, it was bad. Last year's movie was slightly better, but understandably not enough to turn things around. Since this new Diancie movie should get a "new series boost," I'd normally expect a boost over 2013 similar to 2011's boost over 2010... so perhaps in the 3.5b range. That said, XY was/is being hyped as a revitalization of the series, given the games' transition to 3D and the sheer size of the Kalos region, and at least in the English anime dub, they've brought back the original '98-'00 theme song -- it's that big a deal. So maybe it'll do 4b like Omni says. At the same time, this series/generation is introducing BY FAR the least number of new Pokemon. Just over 70. Previously, the low was 100 (Johto, back in 2000), and they've had as many as 156 new Pokemon (Unova, 2010). The lack of "new" in that sense might temper things a little bit.
