Truth be told, I don't think Gunn and co. can truly commit one way or another until they see how The Flash & Aquabro 2 perform. If those films are well-received and success, it isn't like they can just move on from them. They basically need to develop 2 paths, 1 building on them the success of those films and 1 that sprints in a different direction should those films fail one way or another.

The HR article is horrendous for PR given the sheer terribleness of the ideas noted in the article. The outrage at moving on from Cavill at this point would be impossible to exaggerate. Superman isn't an overly popular character with this generation anyway. IF they wanted a full blown reboot, they needed to announce Cavill was all done months ago and forgo the BA cameo, etc. Instead, they announced his return and reaped tons of excitement and positive press. Moving on from Cavill NOW is not "we can't please everyone", it's mores "we're actively upsetting the vast majority of people". Major major mistake if it works out.

Who in gods name thinks Maverick has an awards-caliber story? It was obviously highly simple and surface deep with the drama. It's prime Bruckheimer entertainment throughout, including the pathetically irrelevant and forced romance.

Why do people keep saying this...? It could have opened to $30m. on 1/1/2022, if someone had said that Black Adam will have an opening weekend exactly 50% as large as THE BATMAN, everyone would have agreed the marketing must have been excellent. $400m without China with a character with zero starting fanbase post covid isn't bad at all. People need to be reasonable with their assessment. WB obviously committed funds to the film before covid began too.

No amount of contemporary gossip changes a few things: It is going to be impossible to move on from Ezra Miller if Ezra's behavior is better and the film/Ezra are good as everyone claims. They won't make a highly popular adaption and then fire the lead once the leads behavior has stabilized. The "Momoa steps down as Aquaman and becomes Lobo" is one of the dumbest rumors I have ever heard - and thats saying something as I have followed this daily since the late 1990s! If Aqua 2 is a popular hit, they pretty much have to roll with it. Moving on from Cavill and Johnson would demonstrate exceptional levels of hubris. It's one thing to say "not everyone is going to be happy". It's another to tell a hungry fanbase with 5 years of pent-up demand that Cavill is back and then reverse course 6 weeks later. The fan backlash to that move could sink this entire ship, I suspect. Wonder Woman was basically a perfectly made film, but damn if WW84 wasn't not only bad, but had some terrible special effects, pacing issues, storyline issues, etc. They obviously needed to rein Jenkins in here.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022)

Love and appreciate how different this is from the first film outside of Blanc's presence. Kept waiting for some cheesy connection and it never came. Reminder that Ed Norton is great, Monae is great too, Kate Hudson's character is hilarious - between her and Toni Collette in the first film, Johnson clearly knows how to write this type. Top-tier mystery-comedy is definitely a winning combo. Only downside is that kind of like the first one, the end culprit turns out to be exactly we suspected all along. -
We are opposite on all fronts. Williams was terrific and while Dano does well, he is not on her level. B&A has one of the most forced final 15 minutes I have ever seen. So cringeworthy and try hardish, reminded me of American History X ending. General audiences are going to hate that movie. it isn't endearing ala Edward Scissorhands, it just feels like "hey look at us trying to be all edgy!"

+1. This movie is way, way too weird and the story is a try hardish mess. How was this ever greenlit? -
Bones and All (2022)

Maybe watching this directly after Fabelman's was a bad idea LOL I thought this was way, way too weird for my taste and couldn't get into at all. It feels way too try hardish trying to be edgy, they could have used any type of issue in place of being a "feeder" but went with cannibalism, which the film portrays as genetic?? They literally just cant stop eating people and it feels really insincere. Never want to see this again. The actress who plays Merin, Chalamet and the dad from Dunkirk are all good, though Dunkirk Dad's characters final piece of the movie feels extremely forced to try to bring about the ending we should all see coming a mile away. IDK it's well acted and has great production values but I think the story is a try hard mess.
