  1. In terms of admissions in France, AIW opened to 2.566 million for a 5.142 million total so basically a 2 multiplier.

    If the forecast stands as does the multiplier, that would be a 7.6 million total in terms of admissions for EG.

    The average ticket price for AIW was 7,87€, which would mean a total around 60 million € and thus around $67 million.

    That's basically the ceiling. Realistically it's more likely to do around 6 million admissions and $55 million.

    >Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire, the twenty-third film in the long-running franchise, set the box-office ablaze in its debut weekend. It sold a truly staggering 1,144,539 admissions over the weekend frame across 403 screens, and reached 1,458,263 since opening on Friday! The film set a new April Opening Weekend Record, as well as a new Franchise Opening Weekend Record. Among those new records, it also achieved the second biggest opening weekend in the past eleven years, along with becoming the third biggest animated film opener and Japanese film opener.

    The growth that this annual franchise has reached is beyond remarkable, and it's just dominating the Japanese box-office. Unless the franchise begins to decline over the years, it's going to remain a contender for the #1 spot at the box-office every year if it remains on this scale (last year's film would have been #1 if not for Bohemian Rhapsody breaking out). It's a bit too early to say where the film may finish, but with the standard legs of the franchise, it'll reach a total around ¥8 billion ($70 million+). However, the franchise has also begun to develop stronger legs along with its stronger openings, so it could very well reach ¥9/10 billion ($80-90 million).

There is rarely a notable film that opens the first weekend of April since it's after Spring Break and three weeks before Golden Week, so the beginning of April generally isn't a good time for anything to do well. Drops are also a bit harsh this weekend, especially for younger skewing films.

    >Doraemon: Nobita's Chronicle of Moon Exploration will achieve its sixth-consecutive week atop the weekend box-office.

    >Vice is debuting this weekend in limited release and might sneak into the bottom of the top 10, but it would probably require one of the current top 10 films to drop 50%+ to make it.

    This weekend is serving as the calm before the storm that's to come next weekend, when Detective Conan: The Fist of Blue Sapphire opens. It was already very likely to achieve the biggest opening weekend of 2019 overall, but with the dead/weak market it'll be opening in, it could really make its impact felt in the record books.

  7. Some info about Golden Week this year, courtesy of Corpse :

    Golden Week is from April 29th-May 5th. April 29th is Showa Day, May 3rd is Constitution Day, May 4th is Greenery Day, and May 5th is Children's Day.

    However, this year's Golden Week holiday frame is special, and unprecedented. I'll explain:

    On April 30th, Emperor Akihito is abdicating the throne, and the Crown Prince Naruhito will ascend the throne on May 1st. As a result of this, May 1st will be a national holiday this year. And due to May 1st becoming a national holiday, April 30th and May 2nd also become national holidays because a day between two national holidays is then declared a holiday itself. May 6th also becomes a national holiday because May 5th (a national holiday) falls on a Sunday, and when a holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday is declared a holiday! :funny:

    So, this year's Golden Week is extra long, and when you include the weekend of April 27th, you get an unprecedented 10-day holiday frame, EIGHT of which will be national holidays(!), from April 27th-May 6th without school OR work.

    April 27th - Weekend
    April 28th - Weekend
    April 29th - Showa Day (National Holiday)
    April 30th - Declared National Holiday (falls between holidays)
    May 1st - National Holiday (New Emperor)
    May 2nd - Declared National Holiday (falls between holidays)
    May 3rd - Constitution Day (National Holiday)
    May 4th - Greenery Day (National Holiday)
    May 5th - Children's Day (National Holiday)
    May 6th - Declared National Holiday (Monday after a holiday)

    This is the longest consecutive holiday frame where both schools AND workplaces will be closed in modern history. It's going to be huge for the box-office. The only downside is that we won't see any weekend actuals for April 27-28th or May 4th-5th until May 7th/8th at the earliest.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    All ten days will be huge, but May 1st will be the most interesting to watch and could end up as something truly special. The day consists of:
    -National Holiday (New Emperor Ascends).
    -National Discount Day (40% off all ticket prices every 1st of every month).
    -Ladies' Day (every Wednesday females get half-off ticket prices).
    The only other time all three of these days (a national holiday + 1st of the month + ladies' day) can align is when New Year (Jan. 1st) falls on a Wednesday. And that can only occur every six years.
    It'll also be interesting to see how everything behaves after a consecutive ten-day holiday break. As mentioned, this will be the longest stretch where both schools and workplaces will be closed in modern history.
    09 (07) ¥x54,000,000 ($490,000), -42%, ¥655,000,000 ($5.9 million), Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (Sony) WK3
    10 (08) ¥x53,000,000 ($760,000), -40%, ¥275,000,000 ($2.5 million), Osomatsu-san: The Movie (Shochiku) WK2
    >Doraemon: Nobita's Chronicle of Moon Exploration repeats atop the weekend box-office for a fourth-consecutive weekend, with an estimated weekend high enough to achieve the second biggest fourth weekend in the franchise (behind last year's film), as well as the second highest cumulative total after four wees (also behind last year's film). Nothing has changed the films' trajectory, and it's still aiming for a total between ¥4.5-5.0 billion ($40-45 million).
    >Bumblebee and Captain Marvel are in a too-close-to-call race for second place. Bumblebee largely disappointed in its debut, coming in nearly 60% below the opening weekend for Transformers: The Last Knight, but such a decline shouldn't have been too unexpected. The Transformers franchise exhausted itself in the market, and the spin-off factor here didn't do it any favors.
    >Captain Marvel delivered a strong debut last week, but it's proved to be very, very frontloaded, even by the frontloaded standard for Marvel/DC films. If it doesn't manage to stabilize, even by just a bit, it'll end up in a struggle reaching the ¥2 billion milestone, much less the ¥2.5 billion mark it should be aiming for.
    >Bohemian Rhapsody finally fell out of the top 10, but it took twenty weeks in release before doing so. I have it coming in 13th place over the weekend following a good ~25% decline for around ¥40 million ($360,000), bringing its total up to ~¥12.62 billion ($113.2 million). I'll continue to track it for as long as possible.
    Big weekend ahead. In fact, it's very likely to become one of the Top 10 Biggest Aggregated Weekends ever, and could crack the Top 5 if nothing disappoints.
    Code Blue should repeat atop the box-office in its second weekend, but it's facing a big challenger in Mission: Impossible - Fallout. The last two Mission: Impossible films had nearly identical debuts (¥572 million & ¥573 million), but Fallout has noticeably better pre-sales than Rogue Nation, so it's likely going north of ¥600 million and could debut near ¥700 million. I'll provide a Saturday update and see if either film has the edge, but I'm betting it won't be clear until late Sunday.
    My Hero Academia: Two Heroes and Incredibles 2, both animated films featuring super heroes interestingly enough, will be fighting it out for the third place position. My Hero Academia has the rush-out factor since the first one-million moviegoers are receiving an unreleased manga, but it's not playing as wide as Incredibles 2 and it'll probably be at a disadvantage on the average ticket price front. Incredibles 2 is largely disappointing and is "only" behaving as a standard Pixar release, but with pre-sales lower than Coco, it may have to settle for a fourth place debut.
    Kamen Rider Build: Be the One has very impressive pre-sales, having already sold about 25% of its available tickets for the day, but it's suffering from lack of bigger screens and showtimes due to all the other big debuts and holdovers. Ultimately, it'll likely land on the mid-high end debut range of recent Kamen Rider releases.
    No major openers and only a couple solid holdovers from last week is going to make this weekend one of the weakest of the year. That's no unusual for the month of June, but the last three weeks of at least one good debut makes this weekend very boring.
    >Shoplifters, the gem of June this year, will win its third-consecutive weekend atop the box-office, as it nears the ¥2.5 billion mark on its way to exceeding the ¥3 billion (~$30 million) milestone. This will become Hirokazu Takeba's highest-grossing film since 2013's Like Father, Like Son.
    >Deadpool 2 will break the ¥1.5 billion mark in its third weekend of release, and while this is a respectable number for a Marvel/DC film, it's still going to fall a bit short of reaching the ¥2 billion (~$20 million) milestone to match it's predecessor.
    >Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer will achieve an eleventh-consecutive weekend in the Top 10, and after Sunday, will be less than ¥50 million away from becoming the highest-grossing domestic animated film of all-time.
    >Only the Brave finally reaches Japan, 8 months after its initial worldwide release, but it'll expectedly perform poorly and likely barely make the weekend Top 10.
    >Hirokazu Takeba's Shoplifters is going to secure itself a second weekend atop the weekend box-office, and following its very impressive weekdays (roughly 30% higher than its opening weekend), it's almost certain to have a very long performance ahead. It's still a bit early, but a total north of ¥3 billion ($30 million) has become likely. Takeba has definitely become one of Japan's most reliable directors at the box-office, following several critically acclaimed releases.
    >Recall, based on the novel by Jun Ikeido, had a decent start yesterday, and has some solid pre-sales today, indicating that it'll enjoy a respectable debut in second place. If this one does come in over ¥200 million this weekend, then this year's June has outperformed the month's usual poor results.
    >Maze Runner: The Death Cure and Wonder finally reach Japan, and both seem set for decent enough debuts. The Maze Runner franchise never gained any traction in Japan, so if it can hit ¥100 million this weekend, it'd be a success. And Wonder, being released by the independent distributor Kino Films, should do pretty well for itself as well.
    >Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer keeps on holding very well, and is coming closer and closer to becoming the highest-grossing domestic, animated franchise film ever. Currently in its tenth week of release, it looks possible that it'll achieve twelve weeks in total in the Top 10.
    06 (03) ¥79,000,000 ($725,000), -37%, ¥475,000,000 ($4.4 million), What a Wonderful Family! 3 (Shochiku) WK2
    10 (07) ¥33,000,000 ($305,000), -54%, ¥450,000,000 ($4.1 million), Rampage (Warner Bros.) WK3
    >Deadpool 2 is going to be a bright spot in an upcoming dump of new releases in June. Based on pre-sales, it should also have a healthy retention versus its predecessors' debut, likely dropping less than 20%, if not 15%.
    >50 First Kisses, a Japanese remake of 2004's 50 First Dates, is going to benefit from the lack of teen/young female-oriented films in recent weeks (or months, really), and should deliver a decent debut for this time of year. It's also possible this one could develop some strong legs, since this genre typically does and this demo is very under-served right now.
    >Detective Conan: Zero the Enforcer will finally be dethroned in its eighth-weekend of release. It has been holding very well over the weekdays despite being past the play-cycle of most entries in the franchise, and it appears to deliver another good hold this weekend as well. It will have broken the franchise record by nearly ¥1 billion after Sunday, and have exceeded a 6 multiplier, which is typically very difficult for this series. It's going to comfortably to exceed the ¥8 billion next weekend, and I believe it's very likely to end up with the yearly crown.
    >Over Drive is a bomb, and now I'm questioning why I even considered it a potential contender in dethroning Detective Conan. It'll be lucky to debut in the Top 5.
    >Avengers: Infinity War is going to experience a severe decline in its sixth-weekend, and drop near the bottom of the Top 10; however, it will surpass The Avengers over the weekend to become the highest-grossing, non-Spider-Man, Marvel/DC film in the market.
