  1. Hey, since new BO Mojo sucks is there any alternative to the new site? Also anyone knows is there a place to look for local hits for movies produced in Eastern Europe?
  2. Most overseas countries don't get US buzz so they are often late to the party in Franchises. I often see OW getting the hype one part after US and OW results getting good only after a strong performance in the US. Hangover 1-2, FF5/FF6
  3. Naah. If it was released in Aug or in Dunkirk date it could work. May is just problematic for it beause in may you need a huge opening while later summer months give you room for good word of mouth to work.
  4. Hobs vs Shaw will do decent numbers even if its bad. It would have to look horrible to not sell.
  5. If you're a simple person the only ideas you will appreciate are the simple ones.
  6. Baumer I think we are living in different universes. Chastain basically copied her performance from Miss Sloane. It was a mediocre showy performance of "I am confident and I talk loud"
  7. If you think he is disturbed that means he probably has achieved what he wanted so it's hard to call it bad. Also since it's a box office forum (doesn't feel like it) it looks like Hereditary will cross $40m. Maybe even $50m if it stays long enough in cinemas.
  8. This. The public hasn't really been burned. Just a select group of people asked by Cinemascore. IMDB is high
  9. I disagree. The theatre experience itself forces you to focus since there are no distractions and if you are lucky you get great projection and sound quality (I've heard some theaters show Hereditary too dark and some stuff is not visible like it should be). I often watch movies on movie markets and festivals where the audience is super quiet. Hell I am often the only person in the cinema when testing DCP copies. I still love those screenings. btw. First 2 days of the week saw small drops. Cinemascore means shit
  10. I'm not angry that he didn't like the movie. I am angry because he said certain movies shouldn't be seen in cinemas.
  11. I see you don't like good cinema and judge it on surface level "hurr durr 2 movies about family and more about dread than stupid jump scares = 95% same". Also a24 movies are different. I hated it Comes at night, I liked the Witch, Liked Green Room and Killing of a Sacred Deer and love Hereditary. They are very different movie. Also it's nice you only want to see blockbusters in Cinemas. Ehh US viewers that need explosions or easily understandable and palatable dramas to enjoy a movie. I'm pretty sure 90% of the current "movie fans" would hate Kubrick if he was active now. PS. So far Cinemascore is not affecting the Drops. It dropped much less on Monday than other top movies.
  12. Then maybe give me specific reasons why Cinemascore methodology is good or why it's so diffferent vs RT Audience score and IMDB? So far you give no supporting evidence or reasoning to your statements.
  13. No one is defensive except you. We just don't agree with you. Also you know really little about Cinemascore and profesional surveys if you think Cinemascore is really a strong measure. The basic grade we see it a very low sample size simplistic measure.
  14. Killing of aSacred deer is a masterpiece in screenwriting and very good directing. It's miles above it comes at night. It's hard to be positive towards US viewers.
  15. 8.2 on imdb - "Audiences don't seem to like this movie". Again we are here to have an informed opinion about box office results and predictions. So base what you write on something, not event facts because you wrote without reading anything about the movie and are now afraid to admit you were wrong. You are just another person who assumes since it's a24 that it's a movie like "it comes at night". Yeah and Aquaman will be like Battlefield Earth since both are from Warner...
  16. I think the tone if personal preference. Me being in the directors age and probably being rised on similar movies and other cultural items is why it worked better for me. It's basically the inside of my head. The scary bits didn't scare me but made me happy and excited. Though have in mind this was during the EFM and I was after 3h of sleep and probably after watching like 6 movies.
  17. Jesus this is the box office forum. Read the reviews before guessing becaues it's no prediction. This is a more audience friendly film than almost all a24 releases. Yeah it's transgressive and some horror fans may say "not enough jump scares for my tiny brain" but I was excited while watching the really fucked up shit. The movie is very well done and it's much easier to enjoy than The Witch or Babadook.
  18. Many great movies are "heavy to the max". All this means is that it didn't work for you. Also changing from family drama to horror is not changing focus. It's changing tone. The story focuses on the same characters and same plot points. It just shows them in a different way.
  19. I'd argue this one changes tone not focus. It's still focused on the same and there are little suggestions throughout the movie. Maybe the dubbing hid some of them.
  20. Not saying it directly to you but unconsciously people give more credit to old movies and foreign movies since we interpret them differently vs new movies, especially the ones with a lot of hype. You can observe that with initial reactions to Blade Runner, The Thing, Matrix, Fight Club. I'm surprised you say the story meanders. The first part is slow but there are no side plots here really. It all aims at one thing. The ending is also a clear homage to Rosemary's. I really think a rewatch of the movie would help. I've seen it twice and I appreciate it more.
  21. Funny thing is I really think the things that don't work for a small minority of people here are what does not work in Rosemary's baby. That movie is just sacred now so few people are willing to criticize it. Also being a better director than writer can take you a long way. Just look at Nolan
  22. But it would not be as Oscar friendly without the racial issues. Remember politics play a large role in the Oscar. Also the Racial issue was huge for the discussion about the movie.
  23. This also has a very alienating subject matter. Also I was not arguing with you but with Fanboy who claimed critical support is all this movie needs.
  24. Kevin was on the best of the year list for MANY MANY critics. Not to mention "Personal Shopper" which was top10 for many. Also sorry but getting only a screenplay nod is not that great even if i agree with it after reading the screenplay.
  25. Academy members ignore critics lists all the time. A much more viewer friendly and old white man friendly "Florida project" was top5 of 2017 for 200 critics poll of indiewire and it barely got any recognition. Also don't compare it to get out. Get out was more of a racial issue film than a horror. If Lionsgate didn't screw up the marketing for "Blindspotting" it might be this years get out but a worse (but still good) Blackkklansman will take that spot and get lesser recognition than blindspotting. Hereditary is just a movie many critics will ignore because it's so disturbing and they don't like disturbing movies (see Lanthimos movies or We need to talk about Kevin which shares similarities with this). From movies released this year the almost sure oscar nominations are: - Toni Collete (but not movie, maybe music, sets or something like that) - Paul Schrader for first reformed screenplay - Ethan Hawke for first reformed - Joaqin Phoenix for You were never really here Adam Driver may get a supporting nod for Blackkklansman, maybe that movie will get something more. Blindspotting maybe gets a screenplay nod.
