All about the marketing and reception of this movie. Doesn’t matter what the reception of the previous films were. Besides Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness didn’t underperform and Thor: Love and Thunder only underperformed compared to its budget. Both made more worldwide than their previous films without China.

If I’m not mistaken, aren’t all the MCU tv shows including Moon Knight well received by critics and audiences alike? On rotten tomatoes, every single one of them is fresh. I don’t see a problem with the quantity of shows if the quality is good from a general audience standpoint. MCU has plenty of producers even ones specifically for certain projects. Victoria Alonso, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Nate Moore, David Grant and many others. So he definitely has plenty of help.

2022 Box Office Predictions and Discussion

Oh yeah I forgot about the Iron Man 2 2% drop, basically flat. Again, I think it’s best to wait to see the trailer before we make judgments. I remember BP2 placing #1 on Fandango’s most anticipated movies list of 2022. That was AFTER Chadwick Boseman’s death and before any footage was shown. Not saying that it’s evidence that BP2 will be #1 domestically at the box office, but it does show that there are still tons of people looking forward to this. -

I really don’t get your Black Panther: Wakanda Forever prediction. We have never seen a MCU film drop that low from its predecessor. In fact, the only MCU film to drop from its prequel film was Avengers: Age of Ultron, which dropped 26%. That BP2 46% drop is bigger than Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and The Dark Knight Rises. IMO, I say wait til we at least get some footage from the film before we make predictions. Because I believe some are basing their predictions on behind the scenes drama that will have no affect on its box office prospects. Marketing and reactions will. -

We all have opinions of course, but to say BP wouldn’t be the the top five elsewhere except for US is ridiculous. It’s a fact his first film made more than Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, Doctor Strange and GotG Vol. 2 OVERSEAS. Highest after the first Avengers films, Iron Man 3, and Captain America: Civil War. I think we have to see how the sequel does to even rank popularity fairly. I feel a lot of people here underestimating BP2’s overseas numbers like they with the first. I predict it will increase by a lot overseas partly because it’s a sequel and MCU has gotten bigger as well. I feel the same about all the MCU films this year.

2022 Box Office Predictions and Discussion

Yeah I’m gonna have to disagree. I will wait until the first trailer drop before I make a prediction. I just think this film will be a tribute to Chadwick and very emotional which people usually gravitate towards. Also, I know it’s a scientific poll, but to be the most anticipated film of 2022 with virtually no info about the film is pretty impressive. -

Previous MCU movies without China Black Panther - $1,242,535,514 Thor: Ragnarok - $741,757,757 Doctor Strange - $568,601,163 i just don’t see BP2 going below the Thor and Strange sequels. Do you think those two will make more domestically? Also, you have Black Panther 2 dropping of almost $400m after great reception from the first film? But you also have Jurassic World 3 increasing over $300m after bad reception from Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom? If you’re going by the production issues BP2 is going through, that won’t affect the box office. The general audience knows nothing about said issues. The only things that will matter is how Disney markets it and reception when it releases. -

You don’t think Disney will market BP2 around Chadwick’s unfortunate death? The marketing will have to acknowledge it and it will be emotional for a lot of people. The media will likely cover it which will bring more exposure. Plus there is a rumor that a huge character debuting for the first time in live action(not Ironheart) will create buzz as well. Soon we’ll see, but I have a feeling people here are underestimating the potential this film will do financially compared the other 2022 MCU releases. -

A sequel can increase from the first being a cultural phenomenon especially if it’s a good one. For example, Avengers: Infinity War and Frozen. You mentioned Avatar 2 possibly having a increase. The thing that’s a benefit for BP2 is the film will most likely honor Chadwick’s legacy, and it being very emotional. Which will be a draw for a lot of moviegoers. It also seems likely the media will play that up as well. I do agree though that it may decrease from domestically from the first, but I just don’t see it going below DS2 and Thor4. BP more than double DS and Thor: Ragnarok domestically. I decrease of 30% is 490. That’s still a hard number to get to. -

What makes you think this? I just don’t see that happening. I just find it funny how bunch of these predictions have the MCU sequels increase from their prequels by a lot except BP2. I know BP2 has had a “troubled” production, but so did DS2. Troubled production doesn’t mean the film will turn out not to be good. I just don’t see Coogler making a bad film.
