  1. Excellent expansions for Wild and The Imitation Game but Inherent Vice is screwed when it goes wide. It's apparently even much less mainstream-friendly than The Master was (and that movie was not at all mainstream-friendly).
  2. I think some need to accept that it's likely going to be a while until there are breakout hits of any kind. When the product is or looks limited in appeal (or just unappealing for the most part), audiences will just find other things to do with their time and money.
  3. Yep, 100% agree. Both have the same exact release date and poor reviews.
  4. Drew McWeeney really liked it but Hollywood Reporter, USA Today, and Forbes did not. The general consensus is that the movie is not worth all the hullaballo it's caused.
  5. Variety hated this. Youch! http://variety.com/2014/film/reviews/film-review-the-interview-1201376293/
  6. A lot. Don't be shocked if Interstellar is in below 600 theaters by Christmas Day.
  7. What would happen if Disney bought DWA? I imagine that would be all of Jeffrey Katzenberg's worst nightmares come true.
  8. It goes without saying that they likely want to get as far away from the Disney movie (which will be huge) as possible.
  9. Matt Bomer easily gave the best performance in The Normal Heart. Talk about heartbreaking.
  10. Interstellar is likely gonna top out between $175-180M, but no more than that. The plethora of releases arriving in the next two weeks will maul it.
  11. I still can't believe that all of this leakage is over the release of a friggin' James Franco/Seth Rogen comedy. lol.
  12. This is truly astonishing. And I feel like we haven't even seen the worst yet...
  13. O'Connell was always a very long shot even if Unbroken did get a great reception. Too many hurdles for him to overcome. Look up the Amy Pascal/Scott Rudin emails.
  14. By the way, The Grand Budapest Hotel getting in Ensemble for Into the Woods is pretty bad for the latter. Streep almost definitely be the film's only above-the-technical line nomination now.
  15. I literally screamed "WHAT?!" at my TV when Jennifer Aniston was announced. I've always liked her, but between the leaking of those nasty emails yesterday and her surprise nomination this morning, it must be asked: Ms. Aniston, what kind of voodoo?
  16. Even well before Monteith's death, the show developed a lot of problems after a rather terrific first season. Season two was wildly uneven. Most of season three was just unwatchable. Season four was half good (New York) and half terrible (the new students at McKinley). Season five was still inconsistent, but had a couple of really good episodes (in particular, the two emotionally-charged Monteith-centered episodes). The show just fell victim to bad writing, and even if the final episodes are really great, it won't be enough to make up for the slog it has been to reach it.
  17. I hope Darren Criss has a career beyond Glee when it finally ends this spring (it honestly feels like it's been on the air much longer than it really has). I'm gonna be so happy to say goodbye to show forever, what a waste of once-promising potential.
  18. That first post reads as someone's personal top ten ballot for each year. A number of those movies never, ever would've been nominated no matter what the circumstances.
  19. No one's ever really done with acting until they're dead, 99.9% of the time. The ones who do bow out (see: Bridget Fonda) usually don't make a peep about it, they just to do it.
  20. I am sooooo ready for Julianne Moore being crowned an Oscar winner. Fina-fucking-lly.
  21. This was Cam Gigandet's most recent movie. It is absolutely mind-boggling that someone thought this premise would make a good feature length movie. Good grief.
  22. The main takeaway for me from this thread is that: six years after the infamous snubbing of The Dark Knight and the rule change that followed, most still aren't happy with the way the Academy runs things. Oh well.
