  1. Zooey Deschanel was pretty much the sole saving grace of that movie. They should've made the film about her sarcastic and bitter character instead of McConaughey and Parker's self-absorbed and unlikable duo.
  2. No. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was the only one of his romcoms that was even remotely decent. The others (The Wedding Planner, Failure to Launch, Fool's Gold, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past) were mediocre at best.
  3. All three new releases did as well as they could, really. Hard to expect massive box office when the openers are limited in appeal to begin with.
  4. That seems about as expected for all three openers. Maze Runner is no blockbuster but isn't another bomb for the YA genre, A Walk Among the Tombstones did about as well it could considering how grim and low-key it was compared to past Neeson action vehicles, and This Is Where I Leave You did mild business despite the excellent cast although the story did feel very "been there, done that" and the marketing wasn't sure if it was selling a comedy or a drama.
  5. Considering the cast is comprised almost entirely of no-names (sorry, being on a popular TV show does not make you an automatic box office draw), it kind of figures that most of the budget would be put toward set design and such since I assume the whole movie takes place in that maze.
  6. Only by those who thought it would break the September record (which were mostly readers of the book blinded by their fanaticism). Otherwise, an opening weekend around $25M is what was mostly expected this whole time. As for a franchise from these numbers, isn't the budget in the $30-40M area? If so, then if Percy Jackson managed to get at least one sequel, so will this.
  7. That seems solid for The Maze Runner. Should do around $30M for the weekend. A Walk Among the Tombstones likely won't do more than $15M but it was always gonna be a tougher sell than Neeson's previous action vehicles.
  8. Because they aren't real people lol. I'd like to think that only people who don't have a social life of any kind would find themselves attracted to a cartoon character.
  9. Having the hots for a cartoon character is just...no. Nobody's that pathetic.
  10. And once she wins, God's work will be done. Long live Queen Moore! But no, really, it's about damn time she became an Oscar winner (fingers crossed!).
  11. Don't worry, Baumer. The predictions will go down to around $292M domestic until word gets out that our lord and savior Jesus Christopher Nolan Christ is gonna break box office records, win every Oscar, and cure cancer. And then you'll be seeing $2 billion dollar domestic predictions!
  12. LOL you can take The Fault In Our Stars out of that list. It's chances of it getting a Best Picture are as high as Neighbors doing so.
  13. Amy Dunne is a great role but let's be honest: if Sandra Bullock couldn't overcome Cate Blanchett last year, Rosamund Pike won't beat Julianne Moore this year. And I say that as someone who loooovvveeeddd Gone Girl the book and am dying of anticipation for the movie. She's playing a really unlikable character in a genre film and she won't be doing much, if any, campaigning because of her pregnancy. Ultimately, she's likely gonna end up in the same boat as Rooney Mara three years ago, where the nomination alone is her reward.
  14. It's pretty good when you consider it was in only 800 something theaters and wasn't given an especially big marketing push from Fox Searchlight.
  15. It's a typo on BOM's part. They forgot to put a digit at the beginning.
  16. The strong opening for No Good Deed is a testament to the box office power of a thriller with a clear premise that taps into real life fears people have (stalking, home invasion, etc.).
  17. Yeah, I think Meryl is missing now despite being, you know, Meryl. Even her "default" nominations were for roles that are undeniably baity, and a singing nameless witch in a Disney (who stink at Oscar campaigns) fantasy is not one of those. Julianne Moore is gonna win this for sure now, at last.
  18. Haven't seen anything I would actually call overrated (or underrated, for that matter), but if I had to pick one I guess I would say The Grand Budapest Hotel? I really liked it a lot but outside of Ralph Fiennes (who knew someone who has made a career out of playing such sinister characters could be so effortlessly funny?) and the astonishing production values, it didn't wow me or anything.
