  1. Barbie 1 was hardly an awards juggernaut, the currently-unannounced-but-entirely-inevitable (the payday for everyone is gonna be way too good for any of them to say "no") Barbie 2 will face major hurdles to overcome to repeat its success. That said, once it's announced, I hope they report the breakdown as to how much everyone is getting paid because Greta's sure to be granted an even bigger (much bigger, in all likelihood) budget.
  2. Maestro definitely would've been The Villain of Awards Season had it been in contention to win anything. Alas, its biggest controversy was the makeup (which was old news by the time of last year's Oscar ceremony since the first stills were released nearly two years ago) and the passion to reward it never materialized (to the point of winning nothing), so it died instantly. Better luck next time (...again), both BCoop and Netflix.
  3. For those wondering why Wes wasn't there last night, he wasn't even in the country. Wes Anderson Reacts to Oscars Win for Wonderful World of Henry Sugar (hollywoodreporter.com)
  4. I see it's been decided Poor Things is the Awards Season Villain after the fact lmao. These manufactured "controversies" always disappear the day after the Oscars are over. How many people have called La La Land a "white savior movie" in the 7 years since it lost (spoiler alert: zero)?
  5. She doesn't lol. The only reason people are trying it with that angle is because she plays a woman with the mind of a baby (literally) in the movie. I howled.
  6. Lili does have another project coming out soon that was promoted during the Oscars last night. A limited series opposite Riley Keough premiering on Hulu next month. We'll see if that catches on or not.
  7. I'm pretty sure Billie and Finneas would've been easy namecheck nominations last year as well if the Academy wasn't allergic to the type of boy band fluff that the Turning Red songs were meant to be parodies of.
  8. It wouldn't be the Oscars without a "who was excluded from In Memoriam?" controversy.
  9. Also re: Pacino's awkward presentation, it appears that they had to change the script at the 11th hour because he and Michelle Pfeiffer (who was announced as a presenter over the days before the ceremony) were going to present as a Scarface reunion and she had to back out for personal reasons. Michelle Pfeiffer Misses 'Scarface' Oscars Reunion With Al Pacino (deadline.com)
  10. Reviews for the ceremony are starting to come in. So far it seems the reception is positive.
  11. I wasn't too crazy about The Curse as a show (it was fine, hella uncomfortable to watch for sure, but was less effective as it went along IMO) but yes, Stone is terrific in it as well. She'll get an Emmy nom for it for sure in the afterglow of her Oscar win, especially when Actress Drama Series (where it's being submitted) will be barren in terms of strong contenders this year.
  12. I mean, Brendan is 55, while Yeoh is 61. That's usually when actors have settled for whatever they're offered and the Oscar roles tend to be luck. The former was also just in one of this year's Best Picture nominees (admittedly, he was lucky to have filmed it before he won an Oscar). FWIW Fraser was a celebrity narrator at Candlelight at Epcot this past holiday season, so he might have a project in the pipeline with Disney. Voiceover in one of the upcoming animated movies would make the most sense out of anything.
  13. Oppenheimer will for sure since it's a Big Screen Movie and the marketplace is really lacking in product right now outside of the Dune/Panda duo. Poor Things, dunno. It just came out on Hulu last week.
  14. He was the star of the entire night, sorry Kimmel. His reaction shots were sending me.
  15. They actually did a pretty good job spreading the wealth this year overall after half the Best Picture nominees won nothing last year. Killers, Maestro, and Past Lives the only titles to go home empty-handed.
  16. I would laugh if he just threw in the towel on the awards chasing and started making goofy flicks like Gyllenhaal has. Getting nothing for Stronger appears to have been the last straw because he had a competing Leonard Bernstein project that fell apart along the way.
  17. I'm excited to see what the winners do next. RDJ has his miniseries coming out next month and Murphy/Stone have their own interesting-sounding projects in the pipeline but DJR has potential to turn her Oscar breakout into stardom ala Octavia Spencer. Hope the offers for her are good.
  18. Maybe BCoop will do Broadway again since he's also already a Tony nominee (for the 2014 revival of The Elephant Man). Or a miniseries since he doesn't even have an Emmy nom yet. Unless he's just destined to never check off a single box of winning the Triple Crown of Acting.
  19. I'm watching too. I wonder what he will do next now that his Oscar losing tally is up to the double digits. Maybe go for a baity project from another prestigious filmmaker since his own projects aren't bringing home the gold.
  20. Eh, there was always a 50/50 chance she would take it because she was snubbed completely at BAFTA. Plus Killers had just lost all of its momentum a while back. She would've been its saving grace from a complete shutout that was expected long before the ceremony.
  21. You missed the Anatomy dog pretending to pee on his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?
  22. NGL for a second I really thought we were gonna have another Best Picture announcement screw-up. Thank goodness for Emma's sake it didn't otherwise speculation of her being an Oscar Witch would've literally commenced.
