Really good numbers for the openers, but the holdovers got hit hard. Apes 2 could fall more than 50% this weekend. I wonder when was the last time a "big" movie dropped more on its third weekend than on its second.
-
Hoping for a 40% drop for Apes this weekend.
I'm hoping for a sub-40% drop.

TF4 seems to develop some legs right now.

Godzilla's hold.
Well, it hit dollar theaters, so not surprising. With another push it should eventually creep past that $200m mark.
-
Purge's performance is definitely a pleasant surprise. Could make a run for $80m.
-
Hercules and Lucy present some relatively direct competition for Apes
I don't think Hercules will be big. Lucy could surprise though.

Nice numbers for nearly everything. Especially Purge 2 is really surprising and considering this summer has been quite weak box office-wise, it's nice to see something overperform. And with TF4 I still think it could eventually get "Paramounted" to $250m.

To me it isn't, but even I can acknowledge that Nolan could really "slump it" one of these days.
I think it's virtually impossible for him not to have a miss at some point. For all we know, Interstellar could be crap (not really, but I suppose you understand my point).

It's amazing but like anyone has a few real stinkers in there.
Even Spielberg had a stinker in JPII, so there's that. Nolan could be an exception though. Depending on who you ask, TDKR is viewed as a stinker.

Most of his filmography consists of "work". In fact I'm sure some actors would love the parts that Oldman has gotten.
That being said he obviously did a film like The Dark Knight for more than just the money.
Well, I was just quoting him. I'm actually still a big fan of Oldman and he's one of my favorite actors. But I agree with you that his filmography is amazing.

He has 11 films in total that are over 100m dom.
Too bad that they're only "work".

Like half the people on this forum.
Really? I didn't know so many people here like to eat sausage on their sandwich.

I like Nutella sometimes, but can't eat it too often. I'm more of a sausage guy.

Highest grossing films of the month as of July 21
Apes: 143.6
Transformers: 117.6
Tammy: 72
Nothing else over 40m yet.
By July 21, 2013:
Despicable Me: 276
The Heat: 87.5
The Lone Ranger: 81.3
Grown-Ups: 79.4
Monsters University: 79
Pacific Rim: 68
World War Z: 63
Conjuring: 41.2 (after one weekend)
Man of Steel did as much as 22 Jump Street and Dragon 2 have each done this month, around 37m.
By July 21, 2012:
Spider-Man: 225.45
Ted: 139
TDKR: 120.7 (after two days)
Brave: 85.6
Ice Age: 83
Magic Mike: 70
By July 21, 2011:
Transformers: 249
Potter: 226
Cars 2: 80
Horrible Bosses: 71
Zookeeper: 51
Bad Teacher: 47
This is an EMPTY month.
BOM says this July will make over 30% less than last July. That's ugly.

Did you save face though? None of those other films had a total budget of $330M+.
I think the total budget for TASM 2 was closer to $400M.

Fairly standard numbers. Apes had a strong second weekend, so I don't think this comparatively low Monday should be worrying. Apes is clearly getting great WOM, otherwise it would have dropped quite a lot more for the weekend.

Aww...that reminds me of my dream combination of Citizen Kane and The Artist Vs. Godzilla!
I think Baumer would watch Tammy every day rather than watching that.

Am I crazy that I think Robert Pattinson could fit in a Transformers movie?
-
Frankly, they should. They're repetitive, boring, cliched, and totally unimaginative. Is anyone really going to shed a tear if CA 231283080480 doesn't get made? Or Iron Man 384023402308??
Random numbers combinations ftw.

TDK is still the best comic book movie ever made IMO and it's one of my favorite movies ever period. The cast, the plot, the characters, the score. Everything about this is perfection. Maybe there are some plotholes, but really in this case, they don't matter (for me at least).
Grade: A+ or 10/10

While I would agree Godzilla's legs weren't good, there's no way a movie making $500M+ worldwide on a $160M budget is not a success.
Also, wow at Apes and especially Purge 2 increasing from estimates.

Great number for Apes, good for Purge, terrible for Sex Tape. And Maleficent just keeps on rolling. Really surprising, but still nice to see. Also very nice to see is that Apes now has a small chance at $250m domestic.

Maybe Dragon 2 can at least overtake KFP 2 now.

I would say that the Apes crowd has way less fanboys than X-Men or TF4.
