“The title has multiple meanings in the film, from the literal to the figurative,” explains McQuarrie. “There is the threat of nuclear terrorism hanging over the movie, which is the literal threat.”

And the figurative? “There’s the notion that what’s happened in the movie is the end result of choices that Ethan Hunt has made in his life. It’s Ethan’s past come back to haunt him. It’s the fallout of all his good intentions.”

“The one thing that came out of it was I thought it should be a one-word title,” he says. “This is a different kind of movie, it should be expressing a different attitude. It should be striking its own ground, and that’s what I felt Fallout did.” Not to mention, Mission: Impossible — The Last Jedi was not an option. “We were a week late,” he sighs. “We were ready to register the title and they got in there first. That was really a bummer.”

America has tried to come up with a Bond equivalent, since the mid 60's, and has never quite succeeded.

And Cruise won't be doing many of the really dangerous stunts after what  happened with this film..if he ever did.

I know this won't change you worship of Cruise, but if you think stunt people were not used for Cruise in the MI films, you are being very naïve.

But I agree Paramount should consider kicking Cruise upstarts to head IMF,and have a new leading male agent. I think Ferugson will be fine as the  leading female agent.

    :winomg:

There's literally video of him doing all those dangerous stunts you're alluding to, and there is video of him doing them after the injury so I'm not sure why you even try to pretend otherwise.

Since this series is clearly shaping up to be the American version of Bond, who would be an acceptable replacement of Cruise for Hunt? Cruise is inevitably going to have to take a backseat to the role, and solely stick to producing duties with this beloved action franchise. Who can seriously replace Cruise's magnetism? It's gonna be tough, but I don't see how Cruise/studios avoid it.

You don't replace Cruise as Hunt. You bring in a whole new Character all together to lead the the team on impossible missions as who ever you replace Cruise with would never fill his shoes in terms of stunts.

The Graham Norton Show will welcome one of Hollywood's biggest stars later this month in the form of Tom Cruise.

The action star is joining Graham's sofa for the Friday, January 26 episode to promote Mission: Impossible 6 – the latest installment of the popular blockbuster franchise.

Sounds like we could be getting the first trailer on January 26
