Can’t you hear, can’t you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover!

I had never heard that mutation of the original rumor before. The Internet really is one giant game of telephone.

Dora I have every confidence in flopping. Could be wrong but it's so cringe worthy. Using a 18 year old to play a 10 year old makes no sense.
She’s not playing a 10-year-old. She’s supposed to be starting high school.
I agree with everything else you said, though.

Are you only referring to IMAX 3D shows? Because I see plenty of IMAX 2D showings at my local IMAX theaters (AMC Metreon and Regal Hacienda Crossings, plus the LieMAX at AMC Bay Street) on Fandango and those are premium-priced too. Do the theaters you mentioned have IMAX 2D showings too? And is there really that much a price difference between IMAX 2D and IMAX 3D? I’m checking and all my local theaters only charge $1 more for IMAX 3D than IMAX 2D.
3D is on the wane in North America, and IMAX specifically said a couple years ago that they were re-emphasizing 2D due to customer and theater feedback. This isn’t incredibly surprising to me (what is surprising is that Endgame had so many IMAX 3D showings in comparison).

Was Krasinki really a fan favorite back then? I thought he was making fun of for being Jim from The Office. I remember Jensen Ackles was more of a fan favorite than him even. John came really close to the role though, I think he was the second choice.
I was probably misremembering. Actually, didn’t he also get the “he can’t be Steve Rogers because he’s not blond!” treatment, too?

Inception all over again? 🤔
Well, Nolan’s right on schedule for another time-and/or-reality-bending movie. Inception was in 2010, and Memento was in 2000.

I'd prefer that way, more interesting than just being an action spy film.
It allegedly involves time travel. Rumors were swirling around here a couple months ago.

So it looks like this movie is going to rip off like every single other movie in existence.
In other words, an animated Eragon?

And they were both almost Marvel characters, too. (Krasinski, a fan favorite for Cap, was supposedly on Marvel’s short list for Cap; Emily Blunt was actually cast as Black Widow but had to drop out.)

I don’t expect them until at least then, either. They have a full slate of productions put into development prior to the Fox deal closing, and Feige himself made that comment a while back about the X-stuff being at least five years out.
Yes, he hyped up stuff to the truest of the True Believers that’s probably in the most preliminary stages of development right now (since legally, they couldn’t do anything until Fox was officially acquired), but with all the other stuff we already knew was coming (BP2/CM2/GOTG3), I feel like most people understand F4/X/etc. aren’t coming until after all of those.

I don’t have a definitive, numbered list, so I will unfortunately have to pass. I had just wanted to share some of the ones I enjoy.

When insecure geeks are mad at you because they don’t like the idea of you playing a superhero, you’re only as good as your worst role. Recall how when the knives came out for Batfleck, people kept talking about Daredevil as if it was still relevant. Or how Robert Pattinson doesn’t deserve to be Batman in the eyes of some just because he was in Twilight. And I’m pretty sure Chris Evans caught shit for Fantastic Four when he was announced, too.

Adjusted for inflation, that TDKR thread would probably have done 500 pages easy.
It would have done 1000 if not for Aurora. (I hope excel1 is not reading this. If you are, this is just a joke.)

Ewan did a good job, even if he was handicapped by the directing. SLJ made do with what he had, and I commend him for being allowed/able to play against type even if the result is dull.
Christopher Lee as Count Dooku could be the biggest disappointment, IMO. He acts like he’s sleepwalking, a complete 180 from the performance Peter Jackson was able to get out of him as Saruman. This has to be Lucas’ fault, you can’t put it down to age when he had just knocked it out of the park for another director. (Of course, he then proceeded to be just as lethargic as Saruman in the Hobbit movies, but he was older and in poorer health and only a couple years from death so I’ll give it a pass.)

There is nowhere to go but up.
(Also, I wonder if Feige will ever acknowledge the Roger Corman version. Even if Stan Lee’s claim that it was all a sham isn’t true, Avi Arad claims that he ordered all prints destroyed, and Marvel has spent the last 25 years pretending it never happened.)

I also think they are gonna end up having her sacrificing herself like in the comics.
Oh jeez, the fallout from that would be just as much “fun” to hear as the angry male complaints now...
We’ll know when equality is achieved not just when female protagonists are as common as male ones, but also when killing off a female protagonist in a heroic sacrifice the same way as a male protagonist no longer generates a hundred think pieces about what negative effect it has for women in fiction.

Yeah, I never heard anything real saying Chris was being dropped. Yet people were already repeating it as if it weren’t just conjecture within hours, maybe even minutes, of the announcement, despite him being right there up on the stage!

proof what a great get Gunn was for Marvel. genius invention simple, catchy, iconic.
Yes 3000. So glad Disney admitted they made a mistake and hired him back.
I am willing to wait as long as it takes for Gunn to deliver GOTG3.
Pivoting back to Eternals, my point is that the current appeal of the various characters Marvel has adapted is often (nay, mostly) down to things introduced in the movies themselves. It can be the actor/actress/portrayal of the character. It can be the filmmaker’s idiosyncrasies and what they bring to the movie. It’s never just the source material in and of itself. That’s one of the things Feige and his creative team understand, and that’s why I would trust Marvel Studios to successfully turn lead into gold at this point. They’re on the level of pre-2011 Pixar (fingers crossed there’s not a Cars 2 moment in their future any time soon).

The Avengers gave us #NotARecord. Rogue One gave us #NotAnEvent. Is it time for #NotAMilestone?

GOTG has better cast of characters. They are wacky and use of 80s music and references makes it stand out.
That last part was entirely invented by James Gunn. The thing you consider to make them stand out was introduced in the movie.
For a fair comparison, you have to compare Eternals with GOTG’s standing pre-movie. I get your Percy Jackson comparison, I get that they’re not aliens, but as far as pre-movie awareness they are on relatively equal footing.

The biggest difference between this and Solo, besides the fact that the character will be played by the originator of the role, is that I actually do want to see this. At no point, pre- or post-Last Jedi (which I did not hate, either), did I ever actually have a desire to eventually see Solo when it came out. I wasn’t even enthusiastic when Lord and Miller were still on board.
