  1. Biggest comeback of the decade belongs to Walt Disney Animation Studios and how it has managed to put the 2000s behind and surge back to the forefront of animation. Talks of the coveted studio being slashed were highly prominent and nearly brought it down to its knees, but as the decade turned over and the 2010s emerged, so did the studio with new conviction. Beginning with The Princess and the Frog and Tangled, Disney regained its golden knack for family storytelling while showcasing its growth and motivation to evolve even further. The consequences culminated in cultural phenoms which took the pop and sometimes political landscapes by storm. Here's to Frozen 2 ending it on a stellar high note.
  2. Hopefully Frozen II can close Walt Disney Animation Studios' Resurgence chapter in a mic-drop fashion. Although initially unsure, the teaser trailer, if its any sort of tonal compass, has me reeling with uncontrollable excitement and brings me back to the days when I first joined the forum (as CelestialFairyIX). What a treat it has been to witness Walt Disney Animation Studios emerge out of the darkness of the 2000s and into the forefront of animation reminiscent to their Renaissance period. Let us see how the beloved studio's Jennifer Lee era develops and evolves for it may only be the beginning of another stellar decade.
  3. It seems critics are divided as to whether Big Hero 6 is a "good movie" or a "bad movie." Disney has done a great job of hiding the real intentions of the film while revealing bits of the film without going overboard. I must say, Big Hero 6 seems interesting, even after the immense amount of trailers released, the core of the film has not been revealed.
  4. I have to say, Gone Girl is an exceptional film. However, such is the case with other great films tackling turbulent subject matters, (Particularly this film with such lugubrious themes), it might not do as well considering it's projected audience. A WW gross of around $150 - 200 million would make me more than happy!
  5. Big Hero Six, WW hit: ~ $50 million in Japan ~ $200 - 250 million domestically ~ WW gross of around $650 - 700 million Big Hero Six, Frozen-tier Success: ~ $100 million in Japan ~ $300 - 350 million domestically ~ WW gross of around $850 - 950 million or even 1B
  6. I believe Big Hero 6, as Melvin stated initially, with it's quasi-Japanese themes/elements and thus far, entertaining main characters (from what I can dissect in the trailers), it will at least be a semi, if not a Box Office success in Japan. However, with the release of Frozen, more evidence has stemmed and points towards "inconclusive Japan" as they are consistent nor inconsistent with Western movies: They stay in the grey margin. If Big Hero 6 does indeed match Frozen's popularity, I will be more than glad to say Disney has truly entered a new era which will be brimming with Box Office mega-hits. (They've already been doing it since Princess and the Frog).
  7. Japan is an oddity in the world of cinema: One moment it's catapulting a movie - The most recent being Frozen - to immense success and the next, it's barely able to keep up with the likes of China and other countries in the Eastern Hemisphere. I do believe a success story such as Frozen's will be an adversity to emulate. However, you never know with Japan, it might just surprise us sooner than previously thought.
  8. Big Hero Six might not do as well as Frozen in Japan, considering the many factors that went into play during Frozen's release. However, I do believe it'll be another global smash that will really bring into light this so called - deemed - "New Renaissance" for Disney. As a Disney kid, I would love that for to happen as I was born during the dry period in Disney's history.
  9. What is the film with the largest opening weekend of all time in Japan? I apologize for such a childish question, I'm oozing with curiosity at the moment, lol!
  10. ~ Doraemon, $75 million (I hope it can reach $80 million, if at all possible with the school year starting) ~ Pokemon, $28 - 29 million ($30 million seems like a stretch now) ~ Marnie, $38 - 40 million ~ Maleficent, $65 - 66 million (Possibly less) ~ Godzilla, $31 million - Doraemon, as it is already a huge hit will undoubtedly reach the $70 million mark and possibly the $75 million mark as well. I'm hoping for a final gross of around $80 million. - Pokemon seemed to rebound back a little but not enough to bring back it's $50 - 70 million years. - Maleficent will likely reach $65 or $66 million by the end of the month. - Marnie is, in terms of other Studio Ghibli films in the past, a Box Office Bomb. Take into consideration the amount required to complete the film (Rumors have it that the last two films cost Studio Ghibli over $100 million USD), it's a failure. However, it's still a visually stunning and an in-depth film like all other Studio Ghibli films. - Godzilla had a "nice" run but it'll take a miracle for it to reach the $35 million threshold.
  11. Stand By Me, Doraemon - $9,673,094 USD Transformers: Age of Extinction - $6,385,658 USD
  12. Rough Estimations: Godzilla - $50 million Maleficent - $70 million Pokemon Movie No. 17 - $30 million (possibly $40 million) Marnie - $35 million (possibly $40 million)
  13. Rough Estimates: Godzilla - $30-40 million Maleficent - $60 million (Possibly $70 million) Marnie - $40 million Pokemon - $27 million (Possibly $30 million)
