  1. Horizon walkups are ATROCIOUS tonight. Not expecting the weekend number to be very pretty. Shame because I like Costner’s work. Fully expecting Part 2 to get released in sub-2000 theaters. Quiet Place still going very strong. Expecting around 6.5 previews same as everyone else.
  2. I remember in 2017 Coco had a legendary run in Mexico, people talking about it quite a bit on here. Just checked IO2 to see that it’s already out-grossed Mexico’s all-time run there.
  3. Fun fact, anyone who was at least 9 years old when the first Deadpool came out is now old enough to see this in theaters by themselves. Have fun with that one.
  4. Would be nice to have 2 films over 50M this weekend.
  5. Jeez you guys, listen to Eric here please. He's 100% right. Starting an ad campaign for an adult-driven R-rated action drama in the middle of summer when it's not even coming out until Thanksgiving is NOT a red flag. This isn't some fan-driven Star Wars/MCU movie. It's freaking Gladiator. (btw Eric, agree with you 100% babes <3)
  6. I know this seems weird to think but I almost don’t want IO2 catching TGM domestically. I loved both movies, and I have no reason to want to keep TGM in the top 5 other than… consistency? This isn’t a @Brainbug and Jurassic World situation. I just… I dunno. Maybe other people here have felt this? But I get to a point where I memorize box office records, and then I keep fumbling when something new takes that place and I have to re-learn the list. For example, it took me ages to not think “top 3 grossing movies: Avatar, Titanic, The Avengers.”
  7. Seems like it’s above Minions 2 in Australia/Argentina. Not a terrible sign.
  8. Nice to see Bikeriders hit double digits, hope that sticks with actuals. Also really nice to see Fall Guy saving some face by reaching 90M. 100 is out of reach for sure, but after such a disappointing opening I’m glad it had some good legs. I guess 90-100 is the ceiling for these David Leitch movies. And one more thing to add before this thread gets swallowed up by IO2 numbers, I’m in the camp that Moana 2 will outgross Zootopia 2 UNLESS there’s some massive difference in quality (I.e. Zootopia being as good as the first, while Moana 2 has the quality of a DTV sequel with no hit songs). Moana has stuck around in the cultural mind far more than Zootopia has; Zootopia I feel is far more popular in online circles. For now I’d guess 350-400 for Moana, 300-350 for Zootopia. That being said, I’m not entirely confident about Moana’s quality, so for now I’ll temper my expectations and say 280-300 for it.
  9. I really loved CODA, much more than I enjoyed Nomadland.
  10. Wait… Minecraft is live action? For some reason I thought it was Illumination. Bring me down from 400M+ to around 200M.
  11. I can't remember what movie it was, but I had a dream last night that some random A24 movie got re-released and it grossed more than it did in its original run. It might have been Hereditary or Talk To Me... but at the same time it could have been some random made-up movie that my dream-mind thought was real. Please tell me I'm not the only one who has weird box office dreams.
  12. Pretty decent numbers for Bikeriders around here. If I were to ballpark it based on my comps, things are looking like 1.2-1.4M Thursday. That being said… old white guy central over here, so there may be a bit of an overindex. Still, would be nice to see a film like this be able to pull off something like low-teens this weekend.
  13. Just popping in to say that I just saw IO2 and thought it was fantastic. Well-deserved box office, hope it makes it to 550 and beyond. Besides perhaps 1 or 2 of the Toy Story sequels, I would put this as Pixar’s best mega-sequel.
  14. The 1B number seems a little crazy. But this could definitely out-gross Ford v Ferrari. Not sure how big F1 is overseas, but it could definitely do 150-200M domestic, with Kosinski directing (I’m expecting a surefire spectacle), big star, prime summer release.
  15. Funny enough, not sure how many have been here long enough to remember, but the original "crumbling" meme came from the Inside Out OW thread 9ish years ago. For context: some pro-Marvel user was upset that JW opened higher than AoU and was convinced that it would collapse after its opening weekend and end up with a lower domestic total. In the Inside Out OW thread, they claimed that JW was "crumbing" and would finish below 450 domestic. So..... kind of fitting that people bring that meme back this weekend. Kind of a nice full-circle moment if you ask me.
  16. I’m on your side dude but this is incredibly condescending and childish way to address this, especially from a mod.
  17. Maybe I'm being a bit TOO optimistic here, but hear me out... I think Disney seeing how massive IO2 is could demonstrate to them the value of CREATING ip. Sure, right now they are mining old IP, but at the same time, Inside Out is a relatively new IP compared to the stuff they usually mine. Seeing how popular these original films can become if they are truly beloved can hopefully incentivize them to focus on creating new IP in the future.
  18. Honestly, it just feels good to have some optimism about the box office again. Personally, I haven't seen Bad Boys or IO2 yet (I genuinely cannot afford to go to movies anymore unless I go on a Tuesday) but I'm definitely planning on it. Long live theatrical. It's an experience that I genuinely believe cannot be replicated, ever. Ever. Congrats to Pixar. May they continue to make films until all of us are dead and gone.
  19. Most of Canada is still in school until the end of June. A Thursday in mid/late June is still a school night here.
  20. Not to be the pessimist but the thursday numbers always end up lower than these estimates I’m almost bracing for 4.5 or something like that.
  21. I don’t want to jinx anything, but the fact that movies like Tarot and Strangers are getting close to 3x multipliers (and it doesn’t look like The Watchers is about to break out) goes to show just how starved the horror market is. Wouldn’t be surprised if Quiet Place out-opens the last movie at this point and gets to around 50M.
