  1. Probably because there have been a lot of overpredictions recently, lowballing is safer.
  2. Imagine if someone remade Jaws and it was better than the original. What would happen? Would the world implode?
  3. Like Tele does for the LA area in America, I've started tracking sellouts across the country for major films. 9.3% of tonight's shows for Jurassic World in the UK are sellouts. That's impressive, especially given that it opened earlier in the week.
  4. I'm not convinced Spy is going to have anywhere near the legs as McCarthy's other films.
  5. I'm not saying you shouldn't have doubted it I just think it's unfair to dismiss those who got it right, that's all.
  6. I might be seeing this 3 times this weekend... ironically $0 will go to Universal.
  7. I laid out my reasons for this doing as good as it is doing quite some time ago. I don't see how it's "personal bias" when I'm not even a fan of the original Jurassic Park.
  8. If it keeps up the great numbers it's doing atm, it could even do 500M OW on the high end.
  9. umm, there have been quite a few of us who have expected this to be absolutely massive for quite some time. nothing to do with hindsight.
  10. there is literally nothing good about At World's End. You'd have to remove every frame from the movie if you want it to be pretty good.
  11. It's on impossible for Finding Dory to do anything over 120-130M even in the most optimistic circumstances.
  12. Why not? Thursday number is 17% higher, and it will be more family-oriented so should do better Thursday to Sunday legs.
  13. I was expecting a number high teens a few months ago, but recent negativity towards the film on the forum made me think that the hype levels where I live (which would translate to 15-20M previews) weren't the same in the US, so yesterday I was lowballing at 15M. I'm glad to see that my high prediction wasn't wrong... I usually get everything wrong, so this is neat.
  14. By the time the weekend estimates come around you're all gonna be kicking yourselves for not joining the Over Jurassic Park club.
  15. Oh, derp. I misread that. Yeah, At World's End is fucking abysmal.
  16. I really liked World's End, not as much as Shaun of the dead but eh. I bought it on blu ray a couple of days ago to judge it again.
  17. My audience (admittedly only 30-40% full, but in a big cinema so probably ~100 people) clapped/cheered when the T-Rex was revealed. That might be a normal reaction in America but here in the UK, audiences don't clap to anything. I've never seen an audience cheer at anything in any movie I've ever watched - even the most fanboy driven, Avengers opening night type instances. Word of mouth is going to be excellent. It might not be as good as I hoped for, given Trevorrow's previous film, but as sheer entertainment I think it's going to do very, very well in pleasing crowds.
  18. I agree that if it hadn't had the superhero plot and didn't have the superhero team etc. it would have been better.
  19. The I-Rex wasn't "convincing them to turn on the humans". It was simply that the I-Rex is evidently more powerful than Pratt's character, so she becomes the new alpha. And lots of animals communicate. Doesn't mean they were chatting in a foreign language.
  20. If the technology in this is all based on current "science fact", then I think we have to ask ourselves the important question of: *runs away*
  21. I felt like Statham was really underused. He'd pop up every now and again but I'd have preferred it if he was a proper solid second lead. This isn't anywhere near as funny as Bridesmaids or The Heat, but it's more consistent. It doesn't have long segments of deadness like Bridesmaids did. I really loved how McCarthy's character was a spy. Like, an actual legitimate spy. Not some corny, unfunny parody spy, not some hopeless joke. She (the character) is good at what she does, she's a dead shot, she's smart and powerful. And yet she also has a great arc in which she regains her confidence - she felt like a real human being. Peter Serafinowicz was funny and used appropriately too. It was nice to see the colourful variety of cast members. But McCarthy aside, I didn't like the film that much. I didn't find Byrne or Law engaging or funny, and a lot of the gags fell flat as McCarthy&Feig have done them before. And although I didn't care about the story, that doesn't really matter - this sort of comedy is about the jokes. I felt really disappointed by this, as the duo's previous outings were excellent. They're still a great pair and I can't wait for Ghostbusters, but this was a much more mediocre comedy than I was hoping for.
