  1. I have no objective facts to base this on but I have a feeling this is gonna be like those straight-to-VHS sequels Disney used to do, where the sequel has none of the creativity, charm or quality of the 'real' movie, they just hire the voice actors and put out some garbage that kids won't notice is worse.
  2. Trying to decide whether to go see the first one in imax this weekend. I did watch it when it came out and I thought it was super boring. Has anyone rewatched it and found it improved on second viewing? I’ve forgotten everything that happened in it, so dunno if I can be bothered with the second one. On the other hand, maybe a rewatch will change my mind.
  3. Can't believe I'd never watched it before, but I just watched Gladiator. I was entertained.
  4. Argylle has a 200m budget???? Wtf. I thought this was like a 50-80m mid tier production.
  5. Very good film despite the obnoxious cinematography. Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo are both amazing. Disturbing, moving and uplifting. But man I fucking hate the camera angles and the tiny image size.
  6. I really don’t understand the bait and switch marketing. It just leaves the audience disappointed. That aside, I enjoyed this. A couple of the songs are pretty fetch, the rest are merely serviceable. Aulii Cravaho and Renee Rapp are really good. Didn’t even know Renee was an actor, I only know her from her music, so she was a pleasant surprise. Music aside, I didn’t really see the point of the film as it’s a near word for word copy of the original. I don’t know if the stage musical is the same but normally for a film-to-stage musical, the musical adds new stuff and puts a few twists on the original, maybe exploring more characters. So this feels a bit redundant when the original is such a classic. It’s enjoyable, but it’s no Mean Girls.
  7. Minecraft grosses around $1.5B per year in games & merchandise sales. Toho annual revenue is $300M. I think its fair to say its far more valuable than godzilla.
  8. I really enjoyed this. I was expecting something more provocative as I'd heard several friends who either said it's "Insane" or that it's "Disgusting". Didnt think it was either of those but I just thought it was good fun. Rosamund Pike is the MVP. They probably don't even have rehab in Liverpool.
  9. Discounting some Covid releases, it is literally the lowest grossing 200M-budget film ever.
  10. I have pretty mixed feelings about Monarch. First 3-4 episodes were great, then the next 3-4 episodes kinda sucked, then this final episode was pretty good and has me hooked for more. I might rewatch GvK this weekend which I thought was pretty sh1te in the cinema. Does anyone know what Apple is like with renewing series? Do they have the same habit as Netflix of frequently abandoning shows after 1 season? The only other Apple show I've watched is For All mankind
  11. Holy fuck this was boring. Excruuuuuciatingly dull. I can't remember the last time I seriously considered walking out of a film. There were about 8-10 people in my showing. One couple left about half hour in, another left an hour in. I can't blame them.

  13. Except you cant talk about spoilers in the main thread. hence I thought there would be more people discussing the film here
  14. They could do tons of new stuff. They can make whatever creatures and monsters they want. The franchise is not controlled by Toho, they aren't bound to the existing Godzilla lore. Some brand new monster hunting films would be great. Create something new instead of doing the same thing over and over again.
  15. I just watched the trailer and oh wow does this look crap. Shame how bad the last two films were compared to the first two. I hope they figure out what they want to do with this franchise instead of recycling Godzilla+Kong. At least Monarch was pretty good tho I havent watched the final episode yet. Definitely captured some of the atmosphere of the first two films.
  16. It's been written by the same people that wrote the previous 3 films so I think we can at least be hopeful that it'll be similar quality to those? I don't see why you'd write this off as a flop regardless of how good it is, every Apes movie seems to find a decent sized audience. One of the longest running franchises in history, I think it'll be OK.
  17. I just watched the Beekeeper. Really enjoyed it. Good fun. First film of the year for me, off to a good start.
  18. Better question, why is your first instinctual reaction to an allegation of abuse, to assume the person is making it up? Why is the person's past relevant? My close friend got convicted last year for raping two girls. For my whole life I known him he was an extremely nice and sweet guy. I guess he should be freed from prison because he was such a nice guy.
  19. Because Bohemian Rhapsody is literally the exception to the rule? There is no other musical biopic that comes anywhere close to BR. Assuming that any musical biopic about a similarly giant artist will be the same doesn't really make any sense.
