That would just mean TCP didn't receive Tuesday discount boost (unlike other movies). It isn't really a explanation for Tuesday gross.

That said, I didn't know Tuesday discount didn't apply to TCP. Is it due to the premier being Monday?

It means relatively the tickets are more expensive than other films and people might thus choose other films to watch specifically on Tuesday. Hence maybe TCP's Wed will drop less than other films.

Yes it just opened so didnt have discounts in many places.

  4. Deadline updates from 5mins ago:

DEC 26 AM UPDATE: We’re still waiting on official numbers, but Warner Bros wound up owning Christmas with its trifecta of Aquaman 2, Wonka and The Color Purple respectively in the top three spots. Speaking of The Color Purple, it came up big — much bigger than expected on its first day with an estimated $18.1M, A CinemaScore, 5 stars and 92% positive. That haul was enough for Color Purple to win Christmas Day ahead of Aquaman 2 ($10.6M) and Wonka ($10.4M). As of right now that ties with the first Christmas day of Universal’s feature take on West End/Broadway musical Les Miserables which went on to ultimately make $148.8M. Are musicals dead on the big screen? Absolutely not, they just need to be excellent.

Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like Aquaman and The Marvels made almost the same amount internationally (excluding China).

    The Marvels WW opening weekend = 109.4M (46.1M domestic + 11.7M China + 51.6 other markets)

    Aquaman 2 WW opening weekend = 108.2M (28.1M domestic + 30.4M China + 49.7M other markets)

So right now even if the movie collapses as badly as The Marvels in both NA and in overseas markets (unlikely with holidays), China alone will guarantee that it will finish above The Marvels.

But Aquaman had a Christmas Eve Sunday overseas as well which depressed OW - so not apples-to-apples, meaning legs in the weekdays (incl Christmas) will be stronger.

Who could have predicted that a sequel to Aquaman would open to only 28M. What an insane time to be alive.

Wasn't a huge shock to be honest. Once the Amber Heard situation went crazy, and people were tweeting BoyCottAquaman when the first trailer came out + our understanding of Christmas eve falling on Sun - with the presales figures.. Some of us already thought + / - 25m.

28m is not really very shocking?

Yeah, end your movie with a guy eating a cockroach. What a metaphor for DCEU quality control there.

not really a metaphor of anything. You are really thinking too much into it.

Was a funny tease and the audience in both my screenings ate it up.

Manta found the Black Trident and was breaking into Atlantis to steal some green chemical, can’t remember the name of it lol. But yea they did a heist on Atlantis and that’s what caused the battle when Topo sounded the alarms.

This weekend is expected to be one of the biggest weekend in Indian Cinema with Dunki with strong Hindi Market in the North of India and Salaar with South of India.

Exibitors were already in pain over which film should get better screen share. Salaar is a action genre directed by KGF Director (KGF Chapter 2 did ₹1000 Cr in India) while Dunki is a comedy/drama genre. (Directed by Hirani whose film like PK &3 idiots have great legs) also starred by Srk who already brought ₹600 Cr and ₹700 Cr in 2023 with Pathaan (Jan) and Jawan (September)

Oh gosh, 2 big local films fighting for screens over Christmas weekend - even if Aquaman 2 opens wide; probably wouldnt do well right?

They all got better reviews than Aquabro 2 and WW84. Iron Man 2 still made $623M way back in 2010, which is dream for DCEU movies even now. Age of Ultron would've been the highest grossing DCEU movie too with its $1.4B gross.

Hem; not the Marvel vs DC thread - but Wonder Woman 1984 was a day and date release, so not apples-to-apples. Plus MCU films are known to have higher RT scores even if the film quality is actually not great - like the Marvels, Thor 4 or Dr Strange 2.

Superhero movie landscape is very different then compared to now; superhero fatigue is real and can be seen in 2023. Aquaman is the last film of a dead universe; no1 should care for it while The Marvels is one of the key connecting films to an existing universe; with "Marvel"(s) literally in the title. I think both did badly so why piss on one?

Both sides have made bad sequels.. Dr Strange MoM is good? lol.

At this point i feel you drop at least a dozen predictions this week for this movie and they all keeps coming in the same range of 250M-ish, give it or take a few millions

He shoud update his username to Black Manta because he can't let go of Aquaman 2; keep updating his BO prediction, RT critics prediction and cinemascore prediction. It is getting seriously hilarious. 😂

I just had a beautiful baby girl yesterday.

Came here to see how bad aquaman 2 flopped

    Loll

Congrats! I have two girls; parenthood is an extremely rewarding journey so enjoy! 😀

But I wouldn't wish any movie to flop especially after being a parent - tend to be more open and less critical about things especially this movie somewhat focuses on newborn + parenthood. Also wishing a movie to flop is like hoping someone's child doesn't do well in exams..

I hope every opener over this period surprises to continue to boost the dwindling theatrical business

She was in one of the trailers, although admittedly for a very short while. Regardless I doubt there were enough of such people to skew posttrack data in any significant way. We knew for a long time that the movie has not tested well with audiences and the reviews across the board from critics are terrible. That is enough to show that the preview/OD audiences found the movie bad enough without needing a very small subsection of the fans skewing it.

TBH; I would say most ppl underestimated her screen time because she appear less than a second in 1 trailer, and then disappeared from all marketing materials and not found in any posters at all. So it is really very possible people rate the movie down because of her screen time

Gonna go back in time to the beginning of the year and tell people that Ant-Man will be the third biggest CBM of the year*

*without saying how much it and the other CBMS do

Not surprisingly really. Everyone thought it would be the biggest as it had MCU's main villain introduced to the big screen...

I don't know if I went to see it with insanely low expectations, but I really enjoyed this movie. Really good and fun flick.

It moved fast and it wasn't long. The action scenes and visuals were great. This is miles, miles better than Flash, Shazam 2, Blue Beetle. Miles.

Definitely not a bad movie, imo. I was surprised about how safe it was. Movie played safe and never left that zone. Happy ending, only the villain dies. No, the baby doesn't die.

    8.0 / 10

Yeah 100% agreed, my theater clapped.. Every1 ate up the IMAX 3D, my wife said it was better than the 1st Aquaman and more evenly paced than Avatar last yr..

Some scenes from Nicole Kidman talking to Orm were also very touching IMO.

But it got whacked by critics real hard...

It ended the day with 25M Yuan, a 25% drop from yesterday for a 60.5M Yuan two-day total.

Yes, good 2nd day definitely. And tomorrow is Friday so will definitely increase.

Maoyan has up its final prediction for Aquaman by c.90m Yuan (c.USD13m more). Not bad at all.

WoM in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Msia and Singapore are all pretty good thus far as well

People were laughing so hard at Flash.

Then Marvels was like hold my beer.

But Aquaman saying hold my beer right after Marvels.

I genuinely don't think Aquaman will perform as badly as The Marvels.

Quality wise it is definitely better than The Marvels; but I think RT score will be lower noting Marvel films tend to have higher RT scores.. so let's see how much RT impacts box office.
