  1. Awww, but Brazil LOVES Demi, they can't let her name be tainted! She's literally one of few American artists with a diamond-certified album in Brazil and all of her songs have debuted at #1, she's HUGE there!
  2. Your Name is absolutely gorgeous! Seeing it for the third time on Saturday! If the plot isn't enough to persuade people to go, the animation should be because it is simply out of this world! If only Disney continued with 2D animation for their theatrical releases... I'm still crossing my fingers for a 2D/3D hybrid ala "Paperman" to be utilized in a feature length film!
  3. What are your favorite anime films of all time? 1. Howl's Moving Castle 2. Spirited Away 3. Your Name 4. Tokyo Godfathers 5. Children Who Chase Lost Voices 6. Millennium Actress 7. Summer Wars 8. Wolf Children 9. Whisper of the Heart 10. The Boy and the Beast P.S: I CANNOT wait for Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul.
  4. Monday - OMFG! THAT GODAWFUL HOLD! $500 MILLION DEAD! CRUMBLING! DISNEY IS DEAD! Tuesday - OMFG! THAT INCREASE IS GODLY! ALL HAIL THE DISNEY EMPIRE! BEAUTY AND THE BEAST IS A PHENOMENON! $1 BILLION DOMESTIC LOCKED! Wednesday - OMFG! DEAD! CRUMBLING! DROPPED WAY TOO HARSH! WOULD BE LUCKY TO PASS $1 DOLLAR! Thursday - ... MEH. COULD HAVE DONE BETTER! PROBABLY THE ONLY DISAPPOINTING DAY FOR BEAUTY AND THE BEAST! 0_0 Friday - WAS EXPECTING A BETTER INCREASE! BUT HEY, AT LEAST IT'S NOT FLOPPING! Saturday - YASS!! SLAY!!! BEAUTY AND THE BEAST CONFURMED FOR $1 BILLION! Sunday - AMAZING SUNDAY HOLD! ALL HAIL DISNEY! Rinse, recycle, repeat.
  5. I managed to watch a few animated films I've wanted to watch for a very long time: - Origins: Spirited of the Past, 2.5/5 - The Dragon Dentist, 4/5 - Momo no e Tagemi, 4/5 - Children Who Chase Lost Voices, 4.5/5 Since I have another day of nothing on my schedule in preparation for vacation, does anyone have recommendations for visually and narratively appealing anime films? I love fantasy films with fantastical beasts, adventure, etc.
  6. I wonder how well Mulan will do next year. The public reactions from social media were not supportive or positive, especially considering how iconic "I'll Make a Man Out of You" and "Reflection" are. We were having a discussion about it in class and I swear there were melt downs when the teacher said, "Did you guys hear about Mulan not being a musical?" BUT if its cinematography, direction, etc. take inspiration from some of the most well renowned, respected, and greatest Asian films (since Asian films are known for their art direction, cinematography and use of colors to elevate the film and are just as integral to the story as the actors and dialogue are), then I can live with it. Hopefully it does better than Cinderella and Maleficent domestically and worldwide. I don't really see it being a billion box-office contender now that the musical aspect is gone and Shang has apparently been removed from the film. But that's the beauty of storytelling: there are many variants and perspectives when telling and interpreting a story and we have to be open minded! As for this week's box-office... I don't really care for Power Rangers or Life and am content with Get Out and Beauty and the Beast continuing to perform very well.
  7. - $500-550 million domestic - $650-750 million overseas - Total: $1.15 billion to $1.30 billion worldwide
  8. Hopefully the amount of admissions increases though, that's more telling than gross in my opinion.
  9. To each their own. I absolutely ADORED Cinderella because it just felt magical to me. To be totally honest, I was expecting a mediocre, flat, and carbon-copy of a film, but I was left flabbergasted after the movie was finished. As for Beauty and the Beast, I think I my expectations might have been too high.
  10. I don't know what it was about Cinderella (2015)... it was truly magical: it was made with such great care, love, and devotion for the project and it truly projects off the screens. To this day, Cinderella (2015) remains my favorite remake. It was such a beautiful and amazing experience! - Cinderella - The Jungle Book - Beauty and the Beast - Maleficent - Alice in Wonderland The acting in Cinderella was MILES better than Beauty and the Beast, too, and it seems like everyone apart of the film were in equilibrium in terms of skills in acting. Truly one of the best experiences in the theater I've ever had, but that's just me. I really loved Beauty and the Beast too, but it did not feel as magical as I hoped it would. It's not a bad film, nor is it a great film, it's simply a "good" film.
  11. Our high school did Beauty and the Beast (tonight's opening night) for our musical and for the first time in forever, we've sold out: ALL 1,400 seats in the auditorium are filled. Usually, the amount of tickets sold is between 1,000-1,100 per night for a total of 7,000-7,700 for the entire week, but this week, we might get to 9,800... Pre-sales for tomorrow night have also reached 450 out of 450 available pre-sale tickets, too! Some people went to the live action showing in the movie theater and then came straight to see us perform! Since Disney's releasing Mulan next year, we might as well do Mulan for our musical, it's a damn good, symbiotic business!
  12. Hidden Figures deserves all the success coming its way. Half of our school got to see the film last Friday and everyone loved it! We erupted into boisterous clapping when Mr.Harrison said, "Here at NASA, we all pee the same color," and took down the sign. When the film ended, there was complete and utter silence before one by one we stood up and gave the film a rousing standing ovation. Never have I witnessed a film touching so many people to the point that it received a standing ovation. It was an amazing and unforgettable cinema experience. Usually, when our school does cinema trips for field trips and such, the theater is a ruckus. However, for Hidden Figures, there was nothing but deep admiration and respect. As one of my friends said, "Damn was that impressive!"
  13. Moana's at $243.1 million domestically and $565 million worldwide and will comfortably ascend to $600+ million worldwide. It may not have been the massive success everyone was hoping for, but it surely made up for it by posting great legs in almost all of its markets. An original animated property earning $230+ million is nothing to scoff at. PS: $250 million may be the magic number, but remember, only 20 animated films have ever passed that mark and only 12 have grossed over $300 million of the thousands upon thousands of animated films that have been released over the years.
