  1. Breaking Dawn was not that popular due to the fact that there was no conflict at the end. Everything just kind of pooped out. Putting a massive final battle scene in BD2 was a masterstroke. It really helped the WOM and was so batshit crazy and violent that even the guys were entertained.
  2. It's a decent opening, but that's all. The problem for Carol's box-office prospects is that it's playing in areas very favorable to that kind of social-themed film, and that doesn't bode well for an expansion into the heartland.
  3. The biggest problem with The Night Before was that they cut a trailer that didn't have a single laugh in it. Saw it before Spectre and there was dead silence in the audience.
  4. Nope, this guy (and his business) works movies, tv, and some awards shows. He said she acts so much more "affected" than years ago. She really was just a normal girl at first. But I suppose all that money and the celebrity culture would change many of us. Nicest guy in the industry according to him is Kurt Russell (Steve Buscemi a close second). Treats everyone, from the lowest staffer to the biggest stars, equally graciously. Mean girl was Julia Roberts. Outright nasty to anyone who wasn't a star.
  5. And her recent bashing of Christians and Republicans could also have hurt the box office at the margins. It's interesting, too, that there have been some blind items recently about an actress who has really let stardom go to her head and many of the guesses are Jennifer Lawrence. From what I've been told by someone in the catering business who deals extensively with the entertainment industry, the JLaw who made Winter's Bone was a completely different person than who she is now, and the change is not for the better.
  6. Saw the trailer before Spectre and it didn't get a single laugh, or even slight chuckle. Just dead silence. Maybe the funny stuff wasn't in the preview.
  7. After the boycott destroyed their tour, the Dixie Chicks tried to appeal strictly to the MSNBC crowd, too, and we know how that worked out. And EW is as far-left as an entertainment magazine can get, so their comments follow suit.
  8. If this thing doesn't get Academy Award nods in the year of the angry, SJW, privilege-hating woman, the film must REALLY be a turd. This thing was made to be Oscar bait, lol.
  9. When they try, as they did with strong-armed robber Michael Brown, some citizens and the MSM just give them crap for it. And you end up with completely made-up, phony "hands up, don't shoot" memes.
  10. I wouldn't be so quick to write off the police boycott having a big impact on the film's box office. A friend worked for a concert promoter and it was hilarious when the Dixie Chicks had their big onsale day for their tour and almost nobody bought tickets and shows were cancelled left and right and all the holds on venues that had dates scheduled but not yet announced were scrapped. QT wants to start a war with the cops. We'll see how that works out for him.
  11. I'll probably see it but will buy a ticket for a different movie and walk into this one. Tarantino's grandstanding deserves the boycott.
  12. Interest was waning in the Paranormal Activity franchise to begin with and then to add in the inconvenience of the film not being shown in some of the nicer theater chains and having to hunt to find it... How soon does this get to VOD?
  13. That theater count hurts PA immeasurably. Here in SE WI, Marcus Theaters are the places to go and that's one of the chains that isn't showing the film, so now it's a junk AMC or wait until VOD.
  14. The problem with Crimson Peak is that it isn't the least bit scary. It's well made and entertaining, imo, but not a horror film. Think WOM will be toxic on this.
  15. Everyone wants to give Rooney Mara grief, but she was one of the few who didn't embarrassingly overact in Pan. The movie was horrid, but she was tolerable.
  16.     The girl was OK, but that boy and his ridiculous "rapping" weren't the least bit like a real kid. She really wasn't either...didn't use vocabulary of a typical teenage girl. Both were precocious "movie kids." And, yeah, I HATE Carl on The Walking Dead, too. OTOH, I think the child actors that Game of Thrones gets are very good overall. The girl who played Shireen was tremendous. Her scene with Stannis where he told her how much he loves her was one of the season's best.
  17. Saw The Visit this afternoon, and if the crowd's reaction was any indication, the WOM will not be kind. And that boy was such an irritating presence that I was hoping for his death from the first five minutes in.
  18.     She had that "oh God do I really have to do this" expression on her face even before the awkward questions began. This isn't the first interview where a celeb was a brat, but I can't recall the hosts ever calling him/her out on it afterwards. If you are blessed to be in the position to be a model or actress (and it is a blessing to be born with looks like that), the least you can do is be pleasant in interview situations. I don't care how stupid you think the questions are or how many times you've been asked the same thing over and over. Suck it up, smile, and cash your million dollar checks
