Before we get too wrapped up in the OW numbers, it's important to ask the real question: What's going to happen when Frozen II Sing-a-long gets released?

OW: $142.7M DOM: $424.4M WW: $1063.3M OD: $62.1M

I remember seeing people predict $3B WW for TFA.

Score is possible, but I agree no acting nominations.

Or Universal is having such a huge year that Minions isn't considered especially remarkable. Though the marketing budget is undoubtedly astronomical.

That sounds more in line with expectations, and keeps the animated OW record in play. That's an animated OD record, isn't it?

Does the 37-42M Friday number include the previews? It seems kind of low if it does (only 6M over IO? Really?) (Nevermind, just saw that it does. Minions doesn't have a chance at beating Shrek 3's record if it only does $40M on Friday)

Really? So WALL-E having a first act with virtually no dialogue wasn't risky? Frozen having two female leads wasn't risky?

This isn't entirely wrong (people do underestimate the other characters) but the Minions are the cornerstone of the franchise's success and the Minions movie is going to introduce new human characters who might be just as appealing as the old ones.

That fad long, long predates Minions.

Inside Out's Cinemascore is in. It's "just" an A. So should still have great legs but maybe not Frozen-level WOM.

Disney and especially Pixar's movies really aren't any less sophisticated than the foreign animated movies. WALL-E and Frozen are at the same level as Miyazaki's films IMO (but let's see Stanton and Jen Lee direct ten movies and have them all be as great.)

TS3 was a sequel and therefore more frontloaded. Brave hardly dropped on Saturday. Up increased on Saturday (but it opened in May.)
