  1. there seem to be conflicting reports floating around, but the LA Times is more legit than people on twitter i guess. i hope progress really has been made and they can avoid the strike.
  2. They're going to try to talk through the weekend, with chances of a strike at 50-50. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I think when the last strike happened, hostilities between the writers and the studios were extremely high, and everyone seemed to know that the strike was definitely coming in advance. This time, one of the issues is that negotiations started much closer to when the contract was set to expire, catching many people by surprise. Details like that make me think it's possible for a deal to get reached in time, or maybe even in just another week or so, causing the strike to be very short, if it happens.
  3. Yeah, they've got to remember the damage the last strike caused, given that it was only ten years ago. I still remember it. And now with SO much more scripted shows and the importance of television, I just think the studios would want to come to an agreement sooner rather than later on this.
  4. Well, that's good enough for me! The thing I like about these movies is hanging out with the characters, so if it's entertaining and fun, I'm in. Can't wait.
  5. If the movie's good, how come they're not screening it for critics? i feel like that's never a thing unless they're determined to keep a lid on major spoilers, but i don't think that'd be the case with this movie. that's the only thing that makes me nervous, because i really want to see it and i've been rooting for this for a long time. even if it sucks, i'll still see it, but i was kinda getting my hopes up in the last couple days with positive word trickling in. can the person who saw it tell us if there's any reason to think it could get trashed by critics? because they actually liked the first two in the series.
  6. If you're staying true to the comics, Iris is the Flash's only legitimate love interest. They were introduced in 1956 as already engaged, then married. He's the only superhero to have a longtime wife. Imo, they should have already been together when the show started as well, so they already made that mistake. In the comics he never dated Patty Spivot until the debacle of the New 52, which demanded that "no permanent couples" be a rule now applied to the DC universe, so that was the only reason Barry/Iris were not together for the first time. But historically, they never even broke up, only death could separate them. In terms of the Flash, it is kind of like using a love interest other than Lois Lane for Superman, it just isn't a thing. Maybe even more so, because Barry Allen and Iris West are actually married.
  7. I wouldn't compare it to The Lion King in terms of the film itself, but I think it might really be the best Disney movie (not counting Pixar) since The Lion King.
  8. Yeah, they did a really good job with that- I think that's the reason so many people see a possible romance between them, and why that'd be a perfect plot for a sequel. C'mon, Disney, make it happen! It's been a long time since there was a really good Disney love story anyway, imo. They developed the characters in this one so well that it'd be perfect for that, and they also have the obvious metaphor of interracial couples that would fit its themes so easily.
  9. I loved it!! The message was wonderful, the characters were great and it was incredibly clever and entertaining from start to finish. I think this is the Disney Studio's best movie since the 90's (Tarzan probably). The ones they've been doing since Tangled have been cute and all, but this one finally reached another level. Also, I ship Nick and Judy and think they should make a sequel about the taboos of interspecies relationships. Disney's the only studio in animation that has ever wanted to do love stories anyway (although not so much lately), so I think it's time for another one. And they could totally do one with these two, they had great chemistry.
  10. Is Gyllenhaal really a household name? I think of the Everest cast Keira Knightley is more famous, just as a celebrity
  11. I think Dinklage just got to go along for the ride in the year when voters decided it was time to award GOT in the big categories. It's a shame it couldn't have been Lena Headey, but I don't think people were watching the episodes this year, I think they just checked Peter Dinklage off for being the face of the show.
  12. I wonder if they're going to remember that Apollo had two other kids that were shown and mentioned in Rocky II.
  13. i think DOR's due to miss with the Academy. i predict Joy will get in for stuff but won't be seen as a frontrunner for anything.
  14. that's not a review, that's Kris Tapley's useless Oscar predicting column. he's a waste of time to read, i could tell you everything he says about these movies without even seeing them, lol.
  15. i bet this is the winner. it'll stay a relative underdog while the bigger movies come out and then win at the guilds, just like Argo, Birdman, etc.
  16. All this skepticism is why I feel pretty bullish on Steve Jobs. It will have the benefit of remaining the underdog just like the winners over the last five years. Plus it'd be a perfect cap on Universal's amazing year, right?
  17. I don't understand why this isn't coming this year. Wouldn't it be better to put it out in October, for Halloween and everything?
  18. The studio didn't like Marianelli's score (which i'm pretty sure was already completed and everything), because they said it was "too European." if any of you are familiar with Dario Marianelli's work, the guy does not do crappy scores, so i'm actually dying to hear what he came up with for this. but they brought in John Powell to do it instead. you can hear samples of the new one on youtube- it's not bad, but Dario Marianelli is such a great composer that i find it hard to believe he could have produced a terrible score. i don't know about the reshoots- i didn't even hear about that happening. when was that reported?
  19. Joe Wright is definitely a guy with his own style, and it sounds like maybe the studio didn't like some of the stuff he was doing with it. i don't know why these guys don't just hire studio hacks if they want everything done as conventionally as possible- i mean, have they seen his other films? my guess is he at least tried to put his own stamp on this somehow and it probably clashed with what they wanted.
  20. I still think there's a possibility that WB is trying hard to sell it as as much action-packed as possible, but because it's Joe Wright he managed to do something more interesting with it that they want to hide.
