  10. From Deadline: According to comScore figures this New Year’s Eve, the worldwide box office has hit a record $39.92B. That’s up 3% over 2016 and makes 2017 the highest-grossing year ever in global box office history. With $28.8B at overseas turnstiles, 2017 was partly enhanced by a massive hit out of China where Wolf Warrior 2 grossed over $854M in just that market (with a new ticketing fee included) while the whole of the Middle Kingdom is projected to see 20% growth over 2016 — The Fate Of The Furious became China’s biggest import in 2017 with $392.8M. The emerging South East Asia markets also helped fuel growing ticket sales in general as did the Middle East — and Saudi Arabia will soon join the party. As of today’s estimates, the Top 5 worldwide movies in 2017 are Disney’s Beauty And The Beast ($1.264B); Universal’s Fate Of The Furious ($1.236B); Disney’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which just scaled to the No. 3 position today at an estimated $1.04B; Universal/Illumination’s Despicable Me 3 at $1.033B and Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming at $880.2M. http://deadline.com/2017/12/worldwide-box-office-record-2017-39-92-billion-comscore-1202234008/
  11. Deadline: Jumanji added $67M for the 2nd frame. That brings the international cume to $153M, and the worldwide total to $323M. There are 28 holdover markets that maintained No. 1 from last weekend’s opening session — dropping just 2% as a group. In Australia, the bow was $12.1M (including previews). In South Africa, Sony had its biggest opening ever at $1.2M (including previews). Asia continues to lead the region for a cume of $36.5M. The weekend added strong openings in India ($2.9M/No. 2), Taiwan ($2.7M/No. 1) and Thailand ($1.9M/No. 1). The increasingly impressive Indonesia saw JWTTJ hold the top spot for its sophomore session with $2.7M, off 27% to bring the cume to $8.3M. Malaysia also put Jumanji atop the chart again with $2.1M, down 35% to raise the cume to $11.3M. It is now the highest grossing Sony film of all time there. Singapore dipped just 11% from opening for a $3.6M cume. Latin America’s regional cume currently stands at $16.1M with all new No. 1 openings. Other highlights include the UK adding 22% for a $23.6M cume; France jumping 100% to cume of $11.4M; Germany rising 57% for a running $9.3M total and the Netherlands lifting 45%.
