I have to say this might not be terrible after all.
For videogame film terms of course.

So, is this movie as doomed as it seems to be?
-
You guys are watching way too many post apocalyptic movies. And reading too much Hobbes (he wasn't right by the way).

What a shame.

Just went to check cinemas here. Some places are still selling, others have already stopped.
-
No surprises. I take this is wordwide? The pre-order is already up here and I was waiting to buy the ticket to the last moment.
I wonder if reviews will still be hitting next week? A lot of people have watched this film and they were doing interviews just as usual. -

For real though, they need to move the movie. It's pretty clear just from the Thursday pre-sales this is not living up to expectations (100% due to coronavirus and not people just not being interested in the film, they clearly are), and today the panic is really starting to erupt, with the NCAA March Madness announcement, and E3 as well. This movie will not live up to its potential if it's released next Friday. This thing can be huge, especially since it's apparently very very good like the first one. But if it's released next Friday, I think it'll make less than the first film did in its opening weekend and will have worse legs.
I would guess the budget for this is also probably like $40m at least?
I wouldn't be surprised if it's a bit more even. It has many set pieces and a more expansive world... but twice the budget from the first one seems reasonable. You double the budget you double the profits, that's a known fact.
I feel things are changing very fast. I feel like a delay is the best option, possibly the only option soon enough. Not that I believe things will get super bad, but the actions to contain the situation might be extremely disrruptive, like in Italy.
Edit: case in point, it seems as I was typing this the NBA suspended the season.- 2

So, what's the expected impact of the coronavirus on this movie's bo?
What a shame. -
So I just dropped by parachute but let me ask: what are the odds this Star Wars make less money than TLJ?

Talking about videogame adaptations, what we need is a Mass Effect film with Emily Blunt as Commander Shepard.

right before returns to pick up her boots (escape from kree segement) and when she went fully nuclear. it isn't overdone so I can see if people missed those moments but I'm a fan.
as for her attitude, mischievous character? maybe?
I like mischievous characters. Indeed, I should have enoyed the scene that she screamed back at a guy, I like characters that, say, learned to laugh at danger. Yet it didn't work for me. It felt she was trying too hard all the time. As I mention before in a previous post, like she was a teenager pretending to be in a superhero film.

@SofNascimento I loved her child-like reactions to discovering what she can do with her powers and thought those were some of better moments in the movie.
I'm not sure which moments you mean. She's already aware of her powers in the beginning of the film, only after she takes that thing off she really discover knew things. What I mean is her attitude throughout the film. Not every moment I guess, but most of the time.

FILM CRIT HULK, who is, IMO, one of the best writers on film out there (seriously, if you want to read great and incredibly long-ass essays, look his stuff up -- some MCU examples: Avengers , Guardians essays) has some thoughts on perhaps why some people are having some issues with Brie Larson:
Some of his other thoughts:
I'm sure the moment he's talking about in the last tweet is when she finds out she was kidnapped and brainwashed, and I do feel like that's the most potent scene emotionally in the film, and also the moment when Larson finally gets to start playing an actual character.
I really hope the Russo brothers found a way to spotlight CM in Endgame the way they did Doctor Strange in Infinity War. Both the character and the actress have so much potential, I think, to really blow audiences away going forward.
I really like him but this time I disagree. Or at least that's not why I disliked Larson's performance. She just felt... childish?

Just for the fun of it, maybe you want to look up Dr. Michalakis?
Anything in particular I should be looking at?

I mean there's lots of things being used wrong in the Marvel movies, Gamma radiation would kill you not make you stronger, A.I.s don't work like Jarvis or Ultron etc etc. It's not science fact or even hard Sci-Fi.
And that's why I stated I don't think it's a flaw. Only something that got my attention, being a sci-fi fan.

By a tech that can't go as far (that's why the Skrulls wanted FTL) and as fast. What exactly it is, we don't know but Mar-Vell invented something better.
Ok, but my point is that tech is definitely faster than light. What Mar-Vell developed might be even faster, it might allow for even greater ranges. But that's another matter.

It's Sci-Fi tech it's not realistic as it is. Whatever the Kree have is not Faster Then Light.
How did they get to Earth then?

Maybe something close to it, but not exactly FTL. That's why Mar-Vell's invention was such a big deal.
FTL in sci-fi in any mode of travel that allows you to travel, well, faster than light. All the alien ships in the film could do that. I mean, if we assume they didn't, then they travelled 24 hours in sub-light speed. Which would put you barely out of the solar system.
As I mentioned, it's not exactly a flaw, but it's a very weird way to word things, particulary if you're familiar with the concept. I dare say I'm not the first nor will be the last to bring this up, but when we think about the GA I wonder how many would know what FTL stands for or, more importanly, would care for waht I'm talking here. Just go with it. -
Just now, Mulder said:
Except light is faster then sound. They probably didn't have FTL tech just tech fast enough to get them to planets close to Hala in a matter of hours ((Keep in mind it took them almost an entire day to get to Earth from where Carol was kidnapped))
They definitely had FTL tech.

So, another videogame movie being a videogame movie.
Maybe next time.
