  1. i think people are being quite harsh on Cats, a movie that is unlike anything I've ever seen before and a movie I recommend everyone should see.
  2. just so we’re keeping score, Ken Loach has won the Palme D’or twice and Marvel has won it zero times.
  3. guy literally just said he hasn't watched many Marvel movies after being asked about it. but yeah he's butthurt, i guess.
  4. add the director of City of God to the list https://variety.com/2019/film/asia/ken-loach-fernando-meirelles-marvel-movies-criticism-martin-scorsese-1203378609/
  5. well if he's gonna be asked the question in an interview, then he might as well be inflammatory. it made fanboys mad so it worked!
  6. I can guarantee to you that Disney and Marvel don’t give two shits about diversity. Their films have diverse casts because they’ve learned it boosts ticket sales, and that’s the beginning and end of their reasoning. Not saying that diversity isn’t good (it is, unequivocally), but it’s hard to praise them for it when their version of diversity is having an “exclusively gay moment” in Beauty and the Beast (hint: it’s barely there) or having the only explicitly gay character in a Marvel movie be the director casting himself in a one scene role that can easily be re-edited for China.

  8. I loved Gemini Man but can we please stop with the "critics were wrong!" bullshit that happens anytime someone likes a movie that got mostly negative reviews?
  9. Not necessarily evidence of the film's beliefs, but I do think it's fun to see that quote in context of the film, especially given the press tour that Todd Phillips did before the film's release where he talked about how woke culture is killing comedy (it absolutely feels like something he'd say). As for the whole "eat the rich" element, I wish the film had pushed itself further with that, but to me it read like the film was not only condemning the billionaires that fuck over the working class and mentally ill but also condemning the people rioting about these issues. Felt like "both sides are bad" nonsense. So maybe saying it believes in nothing isn't completely correct, it just believes in centrism. If it had pushed itself further into any of these ideas then I'd probably like it a bit more, just because it'd at least resemble an idea.
  10. Maleficent 2 is doing far better than I expected it to. Granted I haven't been following box office for a little bit but I was expecting like 25M.
  11. I loved this movie. There are several moments in 120 fps that left me shocked by what I was seeing on screen (there's one moment with a minigun in particular that had me in awe). Ang Lee directing some of the best action I've seen in years like it's nothing.
  12. I don't see why the shark looking fake is an issue when, by design, most of the scariest moments of the film happen when the shark isn't being shown.
  13. Have to echo everyone's sentiments about Parasite, it's phenomenal. That and Ad Astra are practically tied as my favorites of the year.
