  1. nah. GvK may beat Skull Island but it ain’t touching Godzilla 2014’s 93M opening
  2. even though X-Men in terms of the comics are the most popular in terms of movies they were never the biggest. Easily getting beaten by Spider-Man and later Iron Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and of course The Avengers. Likely being more serious and low scale compared to these other films likely limited their reach
  3. The death of the home media market is definitely a huge blow. I do not think streaming has replaced it
  4. remember this movie that came out ten years ago? It actually did pretty damn good (150M domestic and 288M worldwide on an 85M budget) but the sequels sucked and they made the dumb decision to split the last book into two movies which means after the third one flopped the series had no ending! Lolz. Also the cast is pretty insane looking at it
  5. I will say I go to the movies less but cost is only part of it. Most stuff just doesn't look that appealing these days. Would rather stay home and watch older things I haven't yet seen, Also, getting older is definitely a factor. 10 years ago I probably would have went and saw films like Ghostbusters and Godzilla v Kong even if they got 0% on RT but now I am just "eh"
  6. Blaming the pandemic? Really? I feel like this is just the excuse Hollywood is using to excuse away their bad/unappealing films failing
  7. What this shows me is Hollywood is making less appealing films and star power today is not as strong as it used to be
  8. Yes X men 97 is damn good so far and probably the best Marvel product since Infinity War. I also love how they are continuing off the 90s show and remaining faithful to it but taking it in an even more mature direction. Hope more older shows get that treatment
  9. guessing GB's is doing solidly with families, especially since Kung Fu Panda looks to drop 50%
  10. probably will happen. Guessing they will go animated or ultra cheap
  11. In 1984 Ghostbusters was a huge hit and Dune flopped. In 2024 Dune is a huge hit and Ghostbusters will flop
  12. because 2 has the original cast, and as some good creepy moments. Like the first it remembers to play its actual ghost/monster threat straight the 2016 movie is just awful over the top slapstick where they don’t take a single thing seriously
  13. both the 2016 and 2021 movies suck for different reasons. the 2016 movie was awful annoying slapstick. GB: Afterlife was a weird Stranger Things knockoff that turned into a rehash of the original film. Also it was a strange business decision to have the original GB's only show up for a brief cameo at the end. Ghostbusters 2 while a step down from the first is solid and not bad at all. Vigo the Carpathian was actually scary as fuck as a kid. Scenes like Venkman's talk show and the Titanic scene are so memorable that for a while I assumed they were scenes from the first movie. Honestly, one weird thing the main Ghostbusters movies do is try to make the GB's either discredited or some forgotten urban legend. Why? It makes no sense.
  14. yeah but when this is literally the only place seeing people proclaim love for the 2016 film and saying that it is better than the 1984 movie, it definitely is strange
  15. ha ha me too. I was actually shocked when I first watched the movie soon after and found out those weren’t the “real” Ghostbusters same company also made pretty awesome animated series for Men in Black and Godzilla 1998
  16. Avatar absolutely has cultural impact and the movies are well loved world over. That doesn’t change the fact however that they are primarily FX movies and are very thin in terms of story and character
  17. Something about this makes it feel like a cheap DTV movie. Especially with Pete Docter, Michael Giacchino, and several cast members not returning
  18. the comments on the thread on the Marvel studios subreddit about Eternals 2, Captain Marvel 3 and Ant-Man 3 likely not being made are pretty damn funny. Ranging from "but Thor 2 got a sequel!", "It was because the cast couldn't go on talk shows", "it flopped because of streaming", "the merchandising in the real source of money", "movies in general aren't making money" and "did you know The Shawshank Redemption was a flop when it came out?"
  19. not that interested in this but I am glad Dan Stevens is starring. Guy should have been a star.
  20. Damn how bad must this be to not even want to do a January theatrical dump
