That was before Disney got in the streaming game, though. COVID provided the opportunity, but they've taken the ball and run with it. You can probably make the case that same-day releases haven't been necessary since GvK demonstrated audiences were willing to come out again. Best we can hope is no additional plans for further same-day releases for fall and beyond are announced, but I won't hold my breath.
Unless there's a big COVID spike, I truly believe Jungle Cruise will be the last Premier Access release. At the very least for bigger movies. Disney + is already creating their own movies like Hocus Pocus 2 and Disenchanted and I'm sure that will continue. Like I said in another comment, they need to continue focusing on exclusive content for both theaters and Disney + which is a win-win for everyone.

Yeah, I remember when Matrix Revolutions came on DVD three months after release even that was seen as absurdly early and indicative of how much it under-performed.
I remember as a kid wanting to rent The Santa Clause 2 after I watched it in theaters and had to wait like an entire year before it finally hit video. By the time it did finally come out I didn't really care to re-watch it anymore.

I am somewhat impressed Disney was willing to compromise their theatrical bragging rights for shrouded profits nobody will ever verifiably know about. Sad news for the Marvel fanboys, though.
It doesn't just suck as a Marvel fan, it sucks as a box office follower.

Anyone else remember the days of longer release windows. Now people think it's awful when they have to wait around 3 months. Like I said, while it's not ideal, 45 days is a perfect compromise.
-
See, I wouldn't mind a smaller number if we actually had a somewhat accurate read on how it's doing on Disney +. My biggest gripe with PA and streaming releases in general is the lack of anything concrete on how these movies are performing.

I completely get day and date releases during the pandemic, but the more it wanes, it just makes sense to go back to purely theatrical releases. Which I’m glad studios seem to be doing for now. I have an OLED TV and I’ll still choose to experience most movies in a theatrical environment. My TV is for second, third, fourth, etc. viewings.
I feel like a 45 day window is a perfect compromise. It allows that exclusivity while also allowing those who don’t want to go a shorter wait. All these streaming services need to focus on creating their own content that will help bring and keep subscribers. That’s one thing I love about Disney’s plan pre-pandemic. Using their popular brands to create exclusive content for both Disney + and theaters.

I hope it don't come to that, but a realisitic pessimistic number could be
4.8
11
13
12 // 41
9 // 50As someone who was keeping their expectation low with a 40 something 4-day,
I’d still be fine with it.

Then make your return even better by going to cinema for AQP2.
I’ll be there tonight.

I've been off the site for a couple years (as you can probably tell from my Glass related avatar). With the early AQP2 numbers, I couldn't think of a better weekend to return.

Bohemian Rhapsody winning over A Star is Born, what the fuck hahahahahahha
I would have been less surprised to have seen Black Panther won. I liked Rhapsody enough but out of the nominees, it was the weakest.

he sounded so unhappy announcing that haha
He's friends with Farrelly though right? I mean they've done a few films together.

I need Best Drama and I'll have done 50/50 wins and losses. I'll take it.

Is the Kominsky Method actually better than Lorre's other stuff?

It was shown.

No "Box of Scraps" in this montage. I'm a little disappointed.

Wasn't as good as the first season but I still highly enjoyed it. Criss was great.

Was hoping Criss would get it. And with that, I now have more wins than losses.

Dumb crap that can come out of Bale's mouth.

Glad I chose Clarkson. As a fan of the book, she did an amazing job. Still, wish Adams had won.
BLACK WIDOW OPENING WEEKEND THREAD | 80M DOM, 78 OS, Disney PR - 60M Premier Access (aka we swear it's not a disappoinment)

That's one thing I hate about streaming releases. That $30 could be for one person, a family, or a large group of friends that get together and use one guy's account like it's a PPV fight. Not to mention those who will pirate with a nice HD copy out there now.
I get the appeal of these releases but as someone who's followed the box office for years, it makes it a little more boring as the ability to determine just how successful a movie was lessens. Even with Disney giving us the PA numbers, it doesn't account for how many people watched with each $30 purchase.
