I had written a big long statement of response here but the BOT system crashed just as I posted it...hmmm.... 😂 I'll just say Bravo once again to Feige for handling clearly un-researched, unfair and culturally-protective questions with his usual respect, grace, and diplomacy. There is no need for Feige or Marvel to concede to anyone; their characters for this movie are different from the comics, from its historical villains, and are clearly meant to bridge cultures for new audiences, not divide them. This is why Feige gets paid the big bucks.

Uh...there's been no teaser for this film...with actual footage, that is. Only a marketing piece or two with the established cast. The secrecy is obvious. If it wasn't something big, we would have heard much more by now. Ergo... But yes, hopefully Feige is helping to curb SONY's tendencies, at least with this particular film.

There will also begin to be more questions asked not only about "Why can't Warner Bros. get it right with these DC properties?" but also "Why can't Hollywood make good blockbusters anymore?" The answers are as much about studio's and creatives' perspectives as they are about audience wants and needs and expectations -- but audiences are conditioned by the bubblegum they're fed. If SHANG CHI and one or two other MARVELs also under-perform, questions will begin to be asked about this whole model. My gut feeling is that the genre cycle in the evolution of the multiverse concept may reach a natural implosion sometime next year, where COVID effects, audience ambivalence, narrative recycling of past histories, and simply multiple successive studio/creative misfires will cause an industry-wide re-think on superheroes.

No Time To Die | October 8 2021 | 82% on RT | RIP Sean Connery
Macleod replied to Neo's topic in Box Office Discussion
Connery went out on a strong note? News to me. 😂 I love Connery and I love Bond, but both "Diamonds Are Forever" and the unofficial "Never Say Never Again" are very-mixed (if not pretty awful) entries in the overall series. If NTTD really "hits" critically...Craig would indeed be the first in this franchise to really end on a strong note. -
Black Widow | July 9 2021 | ScarJo secures the bag from Disney
Macleod replied to Kalo's topic in Box Office Discussion
Umm...Feige couldn't persuade Disney/Marvel Corporate to go purely theatrical for "Black Widow" -- and apparently also couldn't convince them to "make it right" with her as the movie released -- so I doubt he can change whoever's controlling Disney's response, here. -
Even calling it "Ayer's own" (a la "Newman's own") is a bit of a misnomer, since the whole topic under discussion from Ayer's perspective is that what was released was not Ayer's cut whatsoever. We may never see it. What happened to this? Why was it removed? Bring it back! Ben can take it!! Tell us how you really feel. 🤐 We all know the first SS is a black hole of soulless, blind studio interference. But let's be kinder to each other as human beings, shall we? (...Perhaps this is why "Sad Affleck" was removed?)

Black Widow | July 9 2021 | ScarJo secures the bag from Disney
Macleod replied to Kalo's topic in Box Office Discussion
When was the last time the studio producing the biggest franchise in the world got sued by its star just a few weeks out of their major summer release? It's pretty unprecedented, even in the film industry, so it's big news. "THE ROCK "PRODUCES" EVERYTHING HE SIGNS ONTO NOW, CHUMP!" 😂 -
Black Widow | July 9 2021 | ScarJo secures the bag from Disney
Macleod replied to Kalo's topic in Box Office Discussion
The really interesting bit to me is: Even before the pandemic, Ms. Johansson was concerned that “Black Widow” could end up on Disney+ as part of its wide release. In 2019, Ms. Johansson’s representatives reached out to Marvel seeking assurance that “Black Widow” would have a theatrical-only release, according to the complaint. In a March 2019 email included in the suit, Marvel Chief Counsel Dave Galluzzi said the release would be according to a traditional theatrical model, adding, “We understand that should the plan change, we would need to discuss this with you and come to an understanding as the deal is based on a series of (very large) box office bonuses.” Disney/Marvel corporate clearly decided to adopt a 'wait and see' approach following this exchange, and if the movie would have had a subsequent few great weekends, I bet SJ wouldn't have filed a case, even if they had the suit ready to go. But the evidence is now clearly there. She deserves to get PAAAIIIIID. And yes, it will set precedent for these kinds of circumstances. Warners/ATT did it, Disney can and will pay up, too. -
Just popped in to say "JOHN CARTER is da bomb, yo"...in a good way! 😂 This DUNE trailer makes things look way more appealing than the first obtuse teaser, but I still say this doesn't break even. But as people have noted...what is, right now? Cinema Life is complicated...the spice is flowing through unpredictable worms... This *may* get me out for a theatrical experience...but it will really depend on how things are as October rolls around.
