  1. Congrats to her...it's been a loooong ride. They've clearly opted for overall continuity rather than a fresh break, although half-the-point of the movie will of course be to close off some doors, and open up others. If they had recast Miller, it would have made sense to change Iris, but since they're keeping him, this works...even though audiences have barely seen her in the role, yet! But this is one case where the The CW Flash also deserves some credit -- they cast Iris West as an African American in 2014! I'm sure this influenced Snyder/Warners... https://deadline.com/2014/02/candice-patton-flash-pilot-cw-676866/
  2. Everyone looking for Stallone in the press release...
  3. A great 2012 interview with Cameron linked within that Hollywood Reporter piece today. I know I harp on Chinese Govt's current regulations/perspective/status elsewhere in this forum...but this interview is interesting, because once again... CAMERON KNEW how the global box office would change in 5-10 years time. (Although 3D hasn't quite worked out...) https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/james-cameron-considers-teaming-china-317183
  4. Yes. At least one of the AMCs and Regals in DC consistently gross in the top 10-15 in the country. And a Cinemark theatre just north in Towson, the Baltimore county area, essentially a "college town," is actually in the top 5% of Cinemarks in the country.
  5. "In Cinemas Soon..." leaves the door open, of course. But it's pretty clear they are finally going to push this out this summer, no matter when or how. And yes, I still believe in hybrid/Disney+ release...everything can change until opening day! I know I'm no closer to getting a vaccine anytime soon...but of course I hope that changes over the next eight weeks!
  6. Lost in translation, perhaps? I understand, Feng may be talking about the industry reality vs. an opinion on Zhao. There's still no reason that this notion of "apologizing" has to be the reality... but I guess it is, for many. Money. This is a box-office forum where we discuss global potentials, understood, but this is one of these moments where I feel it's important to draw a line in the sand. The real problem is the fact that the China market (and perhaps Marvel fandom) is so "important" that anyone would suggest that any filmmaker should be willing to roll-over and apologize for an already years-old vague interview statement. America has plenty of "lies" as well, but Zhao obviously has a stance on her birthplace's culture and politics, and she relocated to a country where those freedoms to have an opinion are at least protected, even if always debated. The Chinese Government's and people's response is what we should be talking about here, not Zhao's. Diplomacy is important, but this has all been blown way out of proportion by a gullible population stirred to "patriotism." Zhao/Marvel/Disney should say/do nothing. OK, I'm done.
  7. Please explain to me why her "attitude" is a problem and why she has to clarify any of her years-old interview. So if she wants her film released in China, she has to "play their game" right? We'll see what happens. But Marvel's been doing this for a decade, allowing China to add extra scenes to Iron Man 2, etc., so I guess it wouldn't surprise me. It will be very disappointing if she chooses to "re-frame her words" purely for the sake of corporate profit. Anyone in this thread who thinks Zhao should "apologize" for anything is part of the problem.
  8. Remind me why we're still kowtowing to an uninformed populace and a central government that actively pursues a policy of preventing lingual and physical freedoms of faith and ideology? Oh, that's right...money. If I were Disney/Marvel (because the two can unfortunately never be thought of separately anymore), I would take a stand against this balderdash and stick to their plans; this would generate some goodwill for them in the west in the wake of the MULAN debacle, as well. If China really has that big of a beef and refuses to release ETERNALS there, so be it. If it's as good as we're hearing, I'm sure the movie will be huge everywhere else.
  9. You mean this movie is not about this BROS???
  10. I still think Widow's going hybrid in one capacity or another for the U.S., rather than another delay. But we'll see what happens. Either way, it will be on Disney+ within 90 days or less, anyway...perhaps even 45 days. It's surely a struggling conversation internally whether Disney/Marvel want to "preserve assets" or whether they want to gamble on being the first one out of the gate (this year) to really get audiences back to theaters in a big way. We'll probably know within the next week or two. On the subject of the thread... wow, Tran just can't catch a break... but it sounds like exhibitors saw enough from RAYA and booked their theatres accordingly...which is interesting. It's definitely being rejected across regions.
  11. At least. If I were Feige, I'd get a teaser out by Oscars-broadcast -- just something to capitalize off of Zhao's emerging critical status, and very likely further Oscar wins.
  12. The signs are all there. If FAST is moving (which seems 95% likely), than if Widow is staying on its date in the US...it will be a hybrid release. Godzilla/Kong also tells the tale. Early releases abroad from the US have happened for a while, sure, but Hollywood is also paying attention to what China's grossing in terms of numbers...and they are huge. I'm betting there is even more attention/emphasis from studio executives on releasing product in China first, not only to curb piracy a bit, but also to "grab as much as they can" while they can, in case things belly-flop stateside/in the U.K....especially for titles like this that have a looong journey to screen with a lot of anticipation. I'm betting that internally SOUL and RAYA were simply not as important to Disney as priority Marvel titles are right now. MULAN was also an experiment...that failed. And this past year teaches us that firming up dates is still no "safe bet" that any dates will stand...we just don't know.
  13. Static Shock was mentioned as being aligned with HBO/HBOMax by one of the comic writers who's involved with the Milestone resurgence in a virtual panel last summer, I think... DC Fandome?
  14. I am of two minds about it. For The CW network, it's still considered a successful premiere. But it remains to be seen for how long. And I'm honestly surprised Batwoman even got renewed based on how its ratings sunk through last year. But The CW decided to "play it safe" this year according to their boss...which meant also renewing "Legends of Tomorrow" even though that was long-rumored to be ending. The S&L concept is fine, and I could see this more as a limited 10-episode season kind of thing -- but I can't see how they drag this out for 15-22 episodes per year. Despite it being a "new concept" on Superman...I think it will get old quick. But that's just me. Then again...Smallville made it ten years! (Regardless of what one thinks of the show...the ratings and cultural impact spoke for themselves.) My bet is S&L doesn't make it to five. Regardless, Hamada/Warners have begun to make it clear that whatever they're doing on TV will not affect features, and vice/versa...that they will be more open to multiverses existing simultaneously, even with top-tier character like Superman. I'm willing to bet that Coates and Abrams' idea is for this new feature to be "another Superman" -- not Kal-El. That is their "get out of jail free" card. If it works, it spawns a new franchise iteration. If it doesn't, it doesn't impact starting a new "traditional" Kal-El feature in the future.
  15. I wouldn't assume that Star Wars is happening "first" for Jenkins any more than any other project. It's all about what gets to the starting line first -- developed, ready, the studio feels confident. We've had quite a few "announced" Star Wars projects in the last few years that have not amounted to anything, so...let's wait and see! (Yes, I know Warner/DC have "announced" many that didn't happen, as well...)
  16. Good question. This "announcement" is unclear in that sense...unless they're pushing TG2 back to Christmas...again.
  17. They will go theatrical for at least 45 days, then EPIX exclusively for 30-45 days, then Paramount+. That's what this tweet is indicating...though every trade and website seem to have a different impression. What happens to 'No Time to Die' and other MGM titles is also up for debate, as MGM is tied to EPIX.
  18. Plus, fans have a new ongoing TV show that deals with a different aspect of Superman's life that has almost never been touched before in any media... so regardless of what people think of the show, it's not like Warner is abandoning Kal-El to any degree. And I'm sure HBOMax will now offer possibilities for further alternative routes... I don't think it's coincidental that MAX is finally debuting an HD upgrade of the under-regarded 'Superman: The Animated Series' within the same 24-hour period as Snyder's JL.
  19. My gut feeling tells me that's not happening. They will look for someone diverse to direct, as well.
  20. He was talking about money. Which there may still be in Black Adam facing Superman... the only question is...which Superman will it be? 😂 I'd be fine with The Rock vs. Cavill as his last big blowout... but considering Black Adam is just about to shoot... they'll have to decide soon... Otherwise, yes, Warners has been talking about this kind of reboot internally for a loooooong time. It's going to happen.
  21. All there is to say is... why would this guy (confirmed by the trades) be around, as well as Jamie Foxx...and possibly other villains... if Peter Parker 1 and 2 weren't able to show up and help?
