  1. I'm not saying other people are wrong but the main reason for this is that accents/dialects vary in different provinces. The actors are dubbed over so that there is one standardized accent in the drama. Some accents are hard to understand for Chinese audiences so if you have a drama with 5 actors from different provinces then it's gonna be hard to follow what they're saying. Also, SARFT has a regulation where they request (demand) TV Dramas to use standard Mandarin with no regional accent.
  2. Liu Yifei is not a good actress but neither is Emma Watson and she played Belle. We all know acting chops take a backseat especially in a Disney film. The biggest challenge is to pass her off as a man but with good CGI it's possible. As for her male lead, that's a bit complicated. There's only a handful of famous Chinese actors who can speak English fluently. There's Kris Wu, Eddie Peng, Aarif Lee etc but out of all the three Kris Wu is the only one who's dipped his toe somewhat into Hollywood and if casting people were looking for someone who is Chinese, famous in China but lived overseas and therefore fluent in English then they would be looking at Kris (he's skinny so he would definitely have to work out and put on pounds for him to fit the role). Godfrey Gao is a name that people are throwing around too but he's not famous in China.
  3. General consensus from everyone is that Luhan looks like a girl. Most people would probably pick Kris Wu over him.
  4. Not sure about fraud but I guess it's just a bit shady? Government agencies are requiring their employees to mass-watch screenings of WW2. Reminds me of China Post doing the same for The Game Changer back in February.
  5. I think you mean Yang Yang or Liu Yifei. Either way, it's ridiculous.
  6. The 烂片 tag on Weibo is hilarious. Bad plot, bad actors, apparently weird styling = bad WOM. Yeah, this is not going to have legs.
  7. From someone whose opinion I trust: https://asianfilmstrike.wordpress.com/2017/05/22/god-of-war-2017-review/ Here's another review: http://bloodbrothersfilmreviews.blogspot.com/2017/05/god-of-war-2017.html?m=1 It has the highest Maoyan & Mtime rating among newcomers and second highest Douban score.
  8. That's sad. I heard the movie was really good though. Hopefully word of mouth will help it get legitimate high numbers so Bona doesn't have to resort to dirty tactics..
  9. I don't think any of the local movies are opening up strong next weekend
  10. I saw some discussions on Tieba about the investors giving away lots of tickets. China Post invested in the movie and they make their employees buy the tickets as a requirement and ask them to sell them off to fulfill some quota. Also reports of certain departments in the company having "compulsory" movie viewings of this movie. Shady stuff. There are so many ways to manipulate box office in China.
  11. Can xXx break $150 million? ....not even close. It's hated by audiences everywhere. Look at its rating on every site. It's not even a huge threat so you cannot blame that on black propaganda. Gao Xixi is just a pretty terrible director to be honest. Doesn't help the people he cast weren't big names. Even the little it's making is a bit.. inflated. It's also being accused of plagiarism. Just bad things happening to it all around.
  12. That number is just what's estimated to be fudged from his cinema chain and doesn't account for the other ways of fudging, like ghost screenings and the like. Jackie fans will defend it though so there's no use talking about it. How much is the estimated final gross for xXx? And ouch at The Game Changer flopping hard and getting awful reviews. Peter Ho needs to choose better projects.
