  1. This movie was great and I saw nothing wrong with Harry Styles. If I were to agree with one criticism is that it wasn't a very original idea, but that isn't a problem for me. Lots of derivative movies are great, and this is one of them. Doesn't change the fact that it's very entertaining, visually stunning, with a great cast and score, and Olivia is a director with complete control of the craft - this is not a disaster at all, the film is perfectly well made.

Ok, with the caveat that I AM NOT A SCOOPER. I am just conveying what I have heard and please please please don't take this as anything apart from this is what I have heard

Again - NOT A SCOOPER. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't take this as anything more than office talk.

    @cax16

Finally some exciting news, and it likely means he's signed for more movies as well. A DC universe without Superman would never make any sense.

  3. It's interesting to see the Lord of the Rings show being picked on by the anti-woke people when House of the Dragon is the one with a much more explicit political message and it's facing no backlash. I guess there are more nuance to the complaints (it's more about being faithful to the source material than pure hate for diversity) but still, I would never guess Rings of Power would be the one generating that kind of controversy if I was just watching them without any knowledge.

  4. Loved this. I didn't read the reactions when it came out in the U.S., because I was avoiding spoilers, so I don't understand why headlines were claiming the movie would be divisive. It has a lot of social commentary, but I think it also works as a straight up genre movie if one is not interested in thinking much. There was some weirdness that could be a bit confusing, but overall a very entertaining and satisfying experience. The way people were saying it would be controversial, I was expecting a The Village-like twist. Might be my favorite Jordan Peele movie so far, and I really like Get Out and Us. Keke Palmer was phenomenal - funny, relatable and made me cry at the end.

Zaslov doesn't care about your weirdo identity politics and he isn't going to play them with a multi-billion dollar company on the line. His job is stop the studio from hemorrhaging money and put it on the track to start making a profit and he's going to hire the people who he believes are going to make that happen.

White men are not better, smarter and more competent than women and people of color. If someone were to seek the best people to the jobs they're offering, they would naturally end up with a diverse group of people, because gender and race were not part of equation, only the skills. If you only hire white men, than it's pretty likely that, even if only on a subconscious level, you do believe that white men are better. I'm not saying it's the case with Zaslav, though, I have not checked if those claims are accurate, I'm just talking in general.

The box office grosses you can see at "Variety" would tell you this movie did not do very well at the box office.

Did 83 Milion.. Cost 90 Million. GIven that film has to take in twice it's budget just to break even, this film out and out flopped.

But it's fresh on Rotten Tomatoes

  7. Halloween Kills and The Conjuring 3 both did pretty well at the box office last year on day and date (TC3 was WB's #3 movie of 2021 globally, only behind Dune and Godzilla v Kong). I think most of the horror audience will still show up for these movies despite the availability at home, because they enjoy the theater experience (that's why the genre didn't die at the box office like other small budget genres).

So I think a movie like Halloween Ends is actually ideal for a release like this, because it will boost Peacock (Kills did very well there according to Samba TV numbers) but it won't do that big of a damage on its box office run. It's not like it was going to have a fantastic run anyway, considering how divisive the previous film was, and word is that this one might too. I understand that as box office nerds we're frustrated when studios don't give movies their best chance at ticket sales but for Universal as a company that's also investing in streaming I think this is not a bad strategy.

    I remember that too.

The difference between Feige and Johns was simple" Feige had been in the film industry on the producing side for over a decade before he took over Marvel Studios; Johns was from the comics and did not have nearly as much practical  expereince in the film industry. That proved fatal.

TO put is in simple terms; FOr Feige producing was a full time job, for Johns it was a part time job.

Johns has the right ides in some areas...that Snyder had totally misread Superman's charecter, for instance; but did not have the expereince and technical know now to run a cinematic universe.

It was clear from the theatrical cut of Suicide Squad that Geoff Johns was clueless about filmmaking, I don't know why WB let him continue on the job after such an incompetent, incoherent mess of a start. He moved on to "fix" the Justice League film and was so confident in that new version that he promised it would deliver some of the best Superman scenes fans have ever seen.

I’ve lost all track with them thankfully, but do the Snyderverse trolls want this to succeed or fail?

I don't like these name calling and I didn't expect it from you, honestly, but to answer your question: yes, most of the Snyder fandom is rooting against this movie, because of the rumors that it would supposedly erase the Snyder films from continuity, and also because of the Ray Fisher situation (he was initially going to co-star in the film as Cyborg but refused because of how WB and Hamada treated him, and the Snyder fandom sides with him). But I, personally, stopped being bitter about the DCEU when I was secretly rooting against The Suicide Squad and ended up loving the movie myself ☠️.

I believe there's no point in being so negative about things. We got the Snyder Cut as we wanted and we were eventually proven right that it was much better than the theatrical version. I'm incredibly happy we got to see the film, and there are many other fans who are satisfied too. Not every fan is obsessed in attacking other movies or filmmakers like some do. But to their credit, I'm glad the worst we have on the Snyder fandom is people being annoying asking for Snyder to come back, when there are other fandoms who make the headlines for being sexist or racist. So, I won't condemn the obsessed Snyder fans for their behavior, because in my opinion it's all kinda silly. I just think it's frustrating to see recurrent hateful comments about the Snyder fandom here, because I feel personally attacked, and I also feel anxious about deffending us because I have been warned for doing that before. I hope one day we can all move on from this division inside the DC fandom.

To try and move the topic away from Ezra Miller’s insanity for a bit, I think I might have an idea on what they plan to do with Batman moving forward. Before the Discovery merger, the plan was for Michael Keaton to become the new Batman of the DCEU. Well, in lieu of Batgirl getting canned and Affleck being brought in to do a scene for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, I think the plan is for Affleck to continue being the primary Batman of the DCEU.

I’m sure Keaton will still be in this movie, but at this point, I think it’ll be a one-off.

Yeah I hope Affleck, Cavill and Ray Fisher return. It sucks about Ezra Miller, though. I wanted the whole Justice League team back. But I can’t support Miller.

You know I was just curious I remember the opening weekend for Batman V Superman they came out and said that it would kick off 10 films that would all lead up to a Green Lantern movie in 2020.

Safe to say those plans changed...and yet now about 8 years later they got plans for 10 years. Consider me skeptical cause you could have all these plans and your first movie flops and then what happens? The rest of the movies don't continue going on ahead because they "were not profitable" according to Zaslav.

Ironically Zaslav to me is exactly the type of boss that would panic when his superhero movies make 900million instead of a billion.

Which will just throw them to MoS and post BvS days.

I didn't watch the presentation, but I think I've read someone reporting exactly that they said they won't change their plans for DC if the movies don't reach their financial expectations.
