  1. Early Maoyan score for Ralph 2 is 9.1. Probably will have a standard animation run.
  2. After the huge success of TFA and RO, imagine the reaction then if anybody had predicted that a movie about Han Solo (one of the most beloved characters) would lose worldwide to a film about a giant shark.
  3. It's discouraging to see such a drop from the previous film. I still remember when the first trailer dropped people were even discussing the possibility of hitting $1 billion WW.
  4. Really curious to see how Ralph 2 is received. Parts of the film remind me of RPO, which did extremely well in China. I hope it can have better than usual legs for animation.
  5. Incredibles 2 passes $1.24 billion. Total Lifetime Grosses Domestic: $608,413,154 49.1% + Foreign: $631,814,926 50.9% = Worldwide: $1,240,228,080
  6. I wonder if Spider-Verse will perform more like a CBM (around $100 million range) or more like animation ($50 million or less).
  7. If I remember correctly, Avatar made over $1 billion in Europe alone. But with the ER the way it is now, I can't see the sequel coming close to that. France- $176 million Germany- $162 million U.K- $150 million Russia- $117 million Spain- $110 million Italy- $83 million All of these grosses except for U.K. seem nearly impossible in the market today, especially Russia. Other major markets for Avatar which have taken a big hit in ER since 2010: Japan: $172 million Australia: $106 million The growth in China alone could potentially negate these declines though.
  8. I think JW2 did extremely well for the same reasons as F7/F8 and Transformers 4. People overseas, especially China, really love seeing big spectacles irrespective of the film's critical score.
  9. This was what Corpse had to say about Detective Pikachu's prospects in Japan:
  10. Hard to say. Out of the Disney animated films, only Zootopia and Coco have done exceptionally well. Otherwise, they seem to gross around $50 million or less. It could have a low opening and a very high multiplier if it's very well received (>9.5 on Maoyan).
  11. OD number is slightly higher than the first film, but poor reception online could lead to a worse weekend multiplier and a lower OW.
  12. Wow, guess I was too optimistic about the multiplier. That would be TLJ level bad reception and a big drop from the previous film. WB will not be happy that the Wizarding World cinematic universe is collapsing instead of growing in China.
  13. Looks like in the $40 million range. With a low Maoyan score, it's unlikely to have a good multiplier. I'm guessing maybe around $70-75 million total, down from the $86 million of the previous film.
  14. I'm not surprised. I don't see it getting good reviews from the GA since it's hard to appreciate the film without prior knowledge of the Harry Potter universe.
  15. So basically around The Lorax numbers. I still can’t believe that opened over $70 million back in 2012.
  16. It would be incredible if this became the second highest grossing CBM in China, topping Age of Ultron.
  17. I'm interested in how the very high Maoyan score will affect its multiplier. Could 2x be possible even with Fantastic Beasts 2 coming out next weekend?
  18. Does the Grinch have a release date in China? Maoyan currently says Nov. 9.
  19. I think Aladdin can finish around $700 million OS too, provided the film is well-received. I can see it doing better in Asia than Beauty and the Beast with the exception of Japan. Emma Watson was a big factor in the film's massive gross there, as well as in the U.K.
  20. I think over $500 million OS as well. The film will enjoy a boost from the curiosity factor from the end of Infinity War. Not to mention if/when the character becomes featured in marketing for Avengers 4.
  21. Seuss films tend to do very poorly OS, but this still has Illumination's backing. I think Grinch will perform between Lorax and Sing OS. My guess right now is around $250-300 million OS.
  22. A bit unfortunate that both will finish just under ¥5 billion. Both films (and Coco) certainly deserved to do much better in Japan.
