  1. Looks like Disney gave it an expansion this weekend for Christopher Robin double features. 🤣 > EXPANDING 1 1 Mission: Impossible - Fallout Paramount 4,395 +9 +0.2% 2 12 25 Eighth Grade A24 1,084 +926 +586.1% 4 21 24 Solo: A Star Wars Story Buena Vista 200 +35 +21.2% 11 26 61 McQueen Bleecker Street 34 +29 +580.0% 3 28 46 Black Panther Buena Vista 25 +10 +66.7% 25 31 75 Woman Walks Ahead A24 6 +3 +100.0% 6
  2. According to Corpse, films can thrive together quite well during this busiest movie-going period. MI5 also released one week before Obon Festival in 2015 and had to deal with Jurassic World releasing the same weekend.
  3. I'm guessing the local movie breaking out big has affected it somewhat.
  4. Not completely unexpected given Pixar's recent struggles and the superhero theme of I2. A total around the first film doesn't seem too bad in retrospect. But I suspect TS4 will also see a large decline from TS3 next year like Dory from Nemo.
  5. Godzilla 2014 made $30 million in Japan, whereas the more recent Shin Godzilla grossed $76 million. I would expect this to perform similarly to the Hollywood adaptation, though the introduction of familiar kaiju like Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan could push it higher.
  6. It's amazing how Solo went below even the most pessimistic of predictions here. From the Solo under $700 million WW club:
  7. $400 million WW is dead. Domestic: $212,730,648 54.5% Foreign: $177,380,903 45.5% ___________________________________ Worldwide: $390,111,551
  8. Nice. It's already surpassed F8's WW gross. Domestic: $397,508,235 32.1% Foreign: $840,200,000 67.9% __________________________________ Worldwide: $1,237,708,235
  9. Weird. So was it pulled from all theaters or not? WB didn't release actuals for Rampage this weekend, but it's also unlike them to leave it so close to $100 million.
  10. That is a great hold for JW:FK considering the typhoon over the weekend. Bodes well for its Obon Festival performance.
  11. I'm just happy it will cross F8 to become Universal's 3rd highest grossing film worldwide.
  12. A month ago you had people pretty confident I2 would win the summer WW because of its huge domestic performance, but JW2 easily pulled ahead overseas. That it will get close to $900 million OS despite the World Cup is very impressive.

  14. That would be about a 23.5% WW drop from the first JW (TLJ dropped 35.5% WW from TFA). Pretty good considering the phenomenal nature of JW.
  15. Here's the quote in question: Some of his other predictions Another hilarious underestimation from another poster:
  16. Yep, $1.25 billion is locked. JW:FK has got at least another $40 million in Japan, possibly even close to $50 million depending on how it holds during Obon Festival. It definitely has a decent chance of passing Frozen WW.
  17. 28 (37) Rampage Warner Bros. $125,048 +129% 114 $1,097 $99,278,002 15 43 (45) Black Panther Walt Disney $25,445 +84% 154 $165 $699,932,307 23 Rampage had more success with its theater expansion this past weekend. Really low PTA for Black Panther, second lowest after The Greatest Showman ($160 PTA).
  18. Per Corpse: "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is going to enjoy a strong second weekend atop the box-office, following its incredible debut weekend. The film will either be just shy, or slightly above the ¥4 billion milestone after just ten days in release. It's still on course to exceed the ¥8 billion ($70 million) milestone, and is likely to hit ¥9 billion ($80 million) as well. "
  19. I'd say $75 million now looks pretty likely assuming JW2 plays like a regular summer blockbuster. 21. According to Corpse, the average legs for a July opener should get JW2 to $65-75 million.

  23. Also absent from the list is Taiwan, which had made close to $20 million as of July 1.
  24. It looks like Black Panther did get a noticeable bump this weekend from Ant-Man 2 although not nearly as much as I was expecting. It's so close to $700 million now that it could probably still reach it if just left in theaters for the rest of summer.
