  2. I don't think anyone ever expected Coco to beat all Pixar films minus TS3 overseas. I doubt TS4 can beat Coco's OS gross given it lacks the extremely favorable ER of TS3.
  3. MovieTickets.com Live Update 1) 88% Avengers: Infinity War 2) 1.9% Quiet Place, A 3) 1.8% I Feel Pretty 4) 1.1% Rampage 5) 0.8% Deadpool 2 Deadpool 2 makes a first appearance in the Top 5. 15 minutes ago, #5 was Super Troopers 2 at 0.8%
  4. IW will fall short of Avatar/TFA in basically all the developed markets in Europe. Won't come close in Japan either, but that's expected when the average CBM makes only $10 million.
  5. It also has the most universal appeal out of any film basically. There's no demographic that is left out aside from maybe those that dislike musicals. As incredibly successful Beauty and the Beast was, it definitely skewed female.
  6. The response to Lion King footage at CinemaCon was overwhelmingly positive. @EmpireCity even said he wouldn't be surprised if it crossed $1 billion domestic and Avatar WW.
  7. Which is shocking to me. JW was Universal's highest grossing film of all-time, and JW2 is by far their biggest tentpole of the year. Nothing they have scheduled for this year other than the Grinch even looks locked to pass $150 million domestic. I assumed they would have gone all out in marketing it since it's one of the very few billion dollar franchises they have left along with the F&F series.
  8. It's only $12 million away after an estimated $4.4 million weekend (probably higher with actuals). I think it can get there without a push as long as its theater count doesn't collapse.

  10. Which day do you think Infinity War will hit $1 billion WW? The fastest to $1 billion WW is currently The Force Awakens at 12 days.
  11. It looks locked to me. The IW boosting effect should still last until the home video release date. Even regular drops (>30%) from now on still gets it over $700 million.
  12. Poor TLJ. Only managed to last a few months in the Top 10 WW.
  13. What kind of competition will Infinity War face in China? Maoyan says Deadpool 2 release is May 18, but I see no confirmation of that. Solo is on May 25, but that should not pose any threat at all.
  14. The fact that it broke the opening weekend record is also likely to help legs by stirring even more interest among the GA (as opposed to if it had just been very big but not record-breaking). All the headlines and hysteria will only help build up curiosity and draw in non-fans who did not have this film prioritized or on their radar.
  15. Unfortunately, that decision is entirely in China's hands. To ensure a coordinated global release would mean moving all other markets to accommodate China. The reasoning for IW's late date in China is because the week before May is reserved for local releases.
  16. That is an amazing number from Taiwan as well. According to BOM, JW and F7 (#2 and #3 highest grossers in Taiwan) opened to $5.8 million and $6.6 million respectively (finishing with $26.7 million and $26.3 million). Avatar is the #1 film in Taiwan and would require a gross around $37.2 million today to beat.
  17. Depending on legs, $2 billion WW may actually be feasible. Most would have said that target to be impossible a few weeks ago.
  18. I'd say it's extremely unlikely given the cultural differences. What China finds appealing in their local films would probably not be reciprocated by an international audience. Those local mega-blockbusters still make over 99% of their gross in China alone even with a foreign release and good publicity (as Wolf Warriors 2 got when it was shattering records). That said, we will have films that gross $1 billion or more in China very soon.
  19. It looks like the cumulative opening of all overseas market (including those to come like Russia and China) might be as high as $600 million. Even a conservative multiplier from that gets Infinity War to at least $1.2 billion OS (with the potential for much higher if legs are good).
