Mermaid trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jskKf5YDDAI This is going to be a hit. And it's confirmed for CNY. I'm putting my bet on Mermaid. I honestly think one of the reasons Vegas to Macau did so well this year is because the competition was pretty stale.. Dragon Blade was awful and a comedy film (in this case Vegas to Macau 2) will always win. Since Mermaid and Vegas to Macau are both comedy films, I'm going to lean on Mermaid making more overall via word of mouth and popular actors. Yes, it's crowded but it's been a trend. Over 7 movies premiered during CNY this year.

Mermaid is already starting promotions and they're going to have a press conference later today. It's definitely a go for CNY.

The story is critically acclaimed but this movie is backed by a new production company and their budget is relatively modest so I don't know if they can make a quality film with that.

I believe Kris Wu is also in Mermaid. As for summer, there will also probably be a couple of youth films here and there. Mermaid will be interesting. The Chow movie I'm looking forward to the most though is Journey to the West 2 which is slated for 2017 CNY.

My friend watched the film in Taiwan and he was raving about both the film and Feng Xiaogang's performance. It has intense competition in China but I'm pretty excited to watch. Interesting move. There are tons of competition for the summer.. Guo Jingming's L.O.R.D. and the movie version of the Grave Robbers. Not sure how Mermaid will fare because they've done very little promotion for it and little is known about the movie itself. It's Stephen Chow and of course having Deng Chao as lead helps but, we'll see.

Interesting that you're predicting more for Mr. Six. Breakup Guru 2 stars Deng Chao and his wife, who are both really popular (individually and as a couple) plus it's a comedy film so I think it will definitely have the edge that Mr. Six (although the obviously superior movie) doesn't.

I didn't expect Ex Files 2 to get a lot of showtimes because the first movie was a box office disappointment. I don't think The Witness will reach 300M with the way things are going. I expected more from the Maze Runner too. Guess it's just a slow month.

Seems like small box office results over-all. Is November usually a slow month?

Thanks! I was thinking Halloween played a factor too, considering The Witness is a thriller drama and would fit right in with the holiday. WOM is pretty mixed from what I can see. It should reach 300M if the movies coming out next week underperform and don't take all the showtimes.

I expected The Witness to do more considering all the hype and promo.. and the movie has a popular idol and a popular actress as its leads. Might have to do with the genre though.. thrillers aren't exactly box office draws in China. I wonder if it will reach 300 million yuan like Enlight expects it to. What's the next big release?
