  1. The power of dog and dune are really coming in full force, guess academy really love both
  2. Worst person in the world really coming out from nowhere for best original screenplay
  3. I am betting on LP for the eventual BP win, the film has every sign needed to win at the moment. So far I am seeing the showdown between Belfast vs LP vs TPOD but LP could edge out both given that. 1. I have seen TPOD, the movie is a bit too boring and LP seem more accessible to general audience. 2. PTA is overdue. The academy love PTA and PTA is still oscarless. They must have been waiting for the moment to give PTA an Oscar which may propel him into win for best Original Screenplay, a key category before earning ticket to BP win. 3. Box office still matters. Box office run for LP has been great and the closest one we can get as it recall other Oscar-hopeful type run in pre-pandemic time. This can't be a factor working against LP. 4. Focus Feature curse. They will never win BP.
  4. I think that is reopening in Canada that added the count
  5. Still a bit sad to see Scream losing to an inferior, simultaneous Peacock release -Halloween kills.
  6. My prediction in general 1. BP : the power of dog, dune, licorice Pizza, coda, west side story, belfast, don't look up, king richard, drive my car, and being the richardson 2. Kristen steward eventually left off from the race entirely in best actress 3. Hamaguchi replace either Spielberg or Branagh in best director race. 4. Dune missed Best adapted screenplay 5. Belle replace Luca for best animated feature. (the boldest prediction) 6. The power of dog missing best editing nomination, foreshadow its decline in BP race, just like OUATIH.
  7. Licorice Pizza holding really well despite no major expansion thus far. I haven't seen the film but the movie seem clicking with general audience way more than Belfast, the french dispatch, and other Oscar hopeful titles.
  8. LP, and DMC both perform strong at the BAFTA while DLU, TPOD and Dune holding well. Belfast missing Best director nomination despite being a British film meaning Branagh will likely left out at the Oscar. Also, NWH got completely ignored including best VFX.
  9. It is hard to believe a director need to rely on criticism to other people works for publicity, especially when he himself doesn't really earn his right to do so like other director like Scorsese.
  10. Dennis Villeneuve getting best director nomination at DGA is really a bless given that DGA deemed day-to-date release like Dune as ineligible in the earlier version of criteria requirements. If they kept the rule in that way, we will see Dune missed out from DGA race.
  11. I guess Flee will be the first film to be nominated across 3 categories, best animated feature, best international feature and documentary. Sad to see Belle, a superior film will likely left out to a average Pixar film, despite being the 2nd biggest GKIDS film in term of box office.
  12. It isn't actual list, just my recommendation to everyone @Kvikk Lunsj My curiosity, must we submit a movie for every single year?? My film library started with 1970s and even that, I don't have enough sample size for most of the year in 70s and 80s,
  13. Dune and NTTD both got an IMAX re expansion here in Malaysia over 6 days Lunar New Year holiday weekend but NTTD got far higher occupancy rate as compared to Dune.
  14. I think we did a similar rank some while ago. Anyway, my list below but my movie library mostly start with 1970s film, I will pick from the list for every single year: 1. Titanic (1997) 2. 15. Director branch love Black & white film, remember how Nebraska got in despite mostly overlooked ? Cold war was also ignored pretty everywhere but got in last minute, replacing ASIB or GB. Mank was also worst-reviewed BP nominees among but still got in. Now I am thinking Hamaguchi to replace either one but Hamaguchi is a Japanese filmmaker, the non-english best director surprise nomination like Hanake, Pawel Pawlikowski and Vinterberg are all European filmmaker where you can't underestimate Euro block in Oscar voters. And three of them got BAFTA best director nomination before surprise inclusion at the Oscar. Not sure if Hamaguchi can achieve such feat by not getting nomination anywhere but suddenly got in, especially under banner of Janus films
  16. Wait until you see NWH get a surprise BP nomination at the Oscar , reliving its buzz, and people especially those from Ontorio in Canada go to the cinema to see NWH.
  17. Why is Saturday look so strong across the board? G:A is posting semi-Croods hold in this late run. LP seem having better WOM from general audiences than other Oscar hopeful. Its hold has been very good aside from 2nd week. Hope this boost its Oscar chance further into race.
  18. Seem like PTA nomination for best director in DGA has put a stop for people who is thinking about LP's Oscar hype is fading. But DGA and Oscar never go 5/5 match as most of the time it went 4/5. There must be someone drop off the list eventually. For now honestly I think it is going to be Steven Speilberg since WSS is the only remake among all and could suffer similar fate like Bradley Cooper for ASIB.
  19. The more I see this movie, the more I realise just how well Scorsese handle life-long story in his movie such as Goodfellas, the wolf of wall street and The aviator, especially with How Scorsese avoid soap-opera like storytelling while still maintaining the dynamics. And i become more understand why 3 hours is needed to tell complete story. HoC is a bit too short and therefore, some weird editing choice and cut happened in the movie Jared leto is clearly overacting here, just too much of acting.
  20. Being Ricardos over HoC in the PGA mix is kind of shocking to me since both have similar critical reception but HoC is far more buzzy and bigger cast, and of course bigger box office. I don't think BR will get into the final list of Oscar BP, DMC should sneak in eventually.
  21. Belle's 1.6m opening is the biggest opening for GKIDS since weathering with You in 2020, and 2nd biggest opening of all time for GKIDS
  22. Being eligible for WGA is harder than garner a nomination
  23. Seem like only superhero and horror survived from covid-destruction.
  24. First time in a while Tuesday discount day have a similar bump like pre-pandemic Tuesday. Almost every film has >35% gain.
