  1. Feel like Oscar win really bump Godzilla-1 late legs to an unexpected level. 7bn is no longer out of reach. Not really the same for how do you live?
  2. Can Sony ever make a critically acclaimed movie outside of spiderman? Its continuous misfire with critics is beyond belief. Even their BO success like uncharted and ABY weren’t a critical success.
  3. Avatar 2 is one of the rare movie I heard people mentioning it at the workplace, along with top gun 2. Not even meme phenomenon like Barbie generate that kind of buzz at the workplace.
  4. Germany may overtake NA as the biggest market for ZOI
  5. Not a bad china hold for its second weekend. It can hit 50m after all and is a decent up from the first one.
  6. Dropping near 40% in a relatively quiet week isn’t ideal for a movie trying to get to 100m. I hate all these near-miss 100m moment.
  7. It may be just 75% fresh but the average rating is freaking at 8.8/10 and 9/10 for top critics. So clearly it is gonna be divisive movie, when it worked for someone, it really works like a masterpiece. The SXSW reactions make sense.
  8. This would easily be the first 100m, 200m, 300m and 400m for A24.
  9. All these rave reaction made SXSW premiere sound like some Cannes or Venice film festival debut.
  10. Unfortunately it is uncommon to see Best Animated Feature expanded after their Oscar win so the data for reference is limited. The last time winner in this category got an expansion was the first Spideverse and it added 5m after that. So I won't expect Heron to pass 50m.
  11. A total opposite from previous year, Oscar's winner list went almost total match with BAFTA in almost all categories except best VFX.
  12. If it followed batman from here, it's gonna finish 248m. That is why I said "Break the trend", like how Dune 2 start leaving Logan's run well behind since last mid-week.
  13. It is so awful Toho got virtually zero plan to release the movie in other country in Asia. Fearing being blame for not releasing the the movie, local cinema chain can only blame "Toho" for their irresponsive. That sentiment just got worse in Asia after Oscar win, and start accusing Toho or Japan as a whole, committing "Datsu-A Ron".
  14. Dune 2 still pretty much holding up like Batman 2022, not much better to break a trend. The movie needs a better hold to make 250m domestic or 700m worldwide an easy pass.
  15. If they are tired of Marty, they would just ignore his work like silence or the colour of money. But they continue to recognise his work through nomination, which many tends to forget just how freaking hard to get a directing and picture nomination. Many renowned director like Nolan, fincher , PTA, Wes Anderson , ang Lee, have failed to even get to five, let alone 10 like Marty.
  16. It was mentioned GKIDS will re-release the movie (technically it is still in theater) later this month. I was hoping they can quickly reexpand this coming weekend to capitalize on Spring break and immediate Oscar buzz but looked like they are busying doing Evangelion release this weekend.
  17. Also, Nicole Kidman and Anthony Hopkins was in the movie that under 2 hours but Lily was in a 3 hours half hour long movie, which naturally give her "more" screentime absolute term. So Lily "absence" was more felt in KOTFM.
  18. This expectation for the boost doesn't make sense since last year we had two even bigger movies in the mix, in fact Elvis will still be the third biggest film for 2023 line up. I feel like the one hour earlier and shorter runtime probably help the older demo to turn in more.
  19. So my theory kind of proven?? Suzume getting so much love at Annie probably split the vote from Heron, causing spiderverse to dominate but at the Oscar, the anime/handrawn friendly voters all gather and vote for Heron.
  20. Heron won was definitely my happiest moment in a mostly expected event. It is hard to believe, no matter how much legacy Miyazaki carries, heron actually beat out a heavy favourite, which is at one point considered to have outside shot of best picture nomination.
  21. With emma stone wining best actress, announced just before best picture, Al-Pacino messy announcement probably was a subtle tribute to La la land vs moonlight mixed up disaster during 89th Oscar?
  22. Never thought Russia market could be this crucial for important milestone.
  23. Well it isn’t but I don’t like that movie for featuring that many fanboys bait moment. So I am glad a non-English, PG-13 anime took the prize, a first step for academy to embrace more mature content (dealing with self-harm matter) for animation.
