  1. Wow hats off to Pathaan, that's some real 👑stuff right there taking down avatar 2 - 2 days in a row
  2. Should we just dervive whatever we want about Jim as a person from this?
  3. very strange to call Jim out for this, he's a saint compared to the rest of the movie industry honestly.
  4. The top 5 highest grossing films of all time now is majority James Cameron epics, with of course Avatar sitting and the top being the highest grossing movie of all time with over 2.9b.
  5. I understand that your intention wasn't what I described, however. Yes. It sounded like i described. Sometimes you gotta be careful how you word things 🤷‍♂️
  6. that sounds like when someone is being mean and says "thats a lot for you". Like a backhanded complement
  7. Yeah there's no way this misses Titanic, #3 worldwide here we come
  8. https://assets.adg.org/media/submissions/2022-12-05_13-27-36/ADGSubmission_AvatarTheWayOfWater_LongerFormat_04_SmallerImages_ReducedFileSize.pdf Award used to be called art direction. In theory it's got a good chance, but you never know how these oscar people vote. They're strange and sad people. Here's two of the competition for reference. https://assets.adg.org/media/submissions/2022-12-13_19-23-34/EEAAO_ArtDirectorPresentation_Dec2022.pdf https://assets.adg.org/media/submissions/2022-12-12_15-00-59/WAKANDA_FOREVER_ADG_SUBMISSION_2022_121222_1.pdf
  9. EXTENSIVE LIST OF OTHER DIRECTORS WHO COULD HAVE PULLED OFF A2. CLICK TO VIEW
  10. deep wang I know you fantasise about that that timeline but come on man, i'm talking about one which split off in early 2020 and movie market continued normal growth from 2020->2023
  11. I was just ranting, I understud from your post were just explaining their thought process.
  12. Best Director winner 2018 Del Toro on Avatar: The Way of Water. it's technically an artistically so complicated and complex and beautiful. If you told me I have to shoot one of the final sequences in the movie or lose my life, I would start to arrange for a coffin. Because it's incredibly... it's flabbergasting. Biggest snub is James Cameron for best director
  13. Then they are clueless. There has never been a film production this big where a director has control of every creative aspect. Every single shot, every single peice of music, all the production design went through Jim and he shot the scenes too. He did the scenes twice, once for the performance capture. Then he takes his physical virtual camera and places the camera where he wants. Splitting the shooting into two phases means he work with the actors much closer and focus on their performance. Jim is literally innovating how directing is done in films with performance capture. These people are clowns. He scaled it up to adsurbed levels and yet kept doing the "true director" role. Something no one else could have done.
  14. This is great because Jim has compared the Avatar movies to Godfather & Lotr before, and people got mad at him for it.
  15. While A2 is beatuiful it doesn't try to win the cinematography award. It's too grand and VFX heavy for them to give it to A2. It's incredible the first movie won cinematography with the way they vote. Probably because the 3D at time blew their minds, and all the shots were made in a way where completemented the 3D. For editing, the first movie was better editing. Avatar 1 was so tight. A2 a bit clunky in places.
  16. Which categories did it get snubbed in? Bare in mind that best actor, actress and supporting actor, actress were always off the table as they'll never nominate a motion capture performance. Director Costume Design Not really any others I feel it should have gotten but didn't. Unless I'm missing a few.
  17. A2, a movie which audiences love love love. Made by James Cameron, doing something no one else can do. Leading a team of 3800 people, pushing boundries on many fronts. Surely A2 should have a better shot at best director than best picture.
  18. What are they judging best director on? I don't understand what they are doing.
  19. I think everyone can agree that The Way of Water would be the highest grossing film of all time if we were in the timeline where Covid never happened
