  1. Great movie, which made a huge emotional impact on me (though I am a sucker for that), with a lot of scenes that were hard to stomach (even if there are no graphic details, what the movie leaves to your imagination is heartbreaking enough). I don't really care for the (private) believes of the main actor or the religious background of the studio that (finally) released the movie. This whole Anon thing (which I had to google to "understand" it) is as stupid as (most) conspiracy theories get, no doubt about that, but in the end strange people tend to believe (in) strange things. So I just ignore it, live and let live (wow, haven't seen that flick for ages). I'll admit I am intrigued to give my two cents on how this movie is (imo) treated unfairly by the US mainstream media, but why even bother when I can see where such a discussion would go. It seems that northern American people nowadays tend to react harshly on many insignificant things, and I am simply not up for a fight in the trenches up in no man's land. Also, I assume I would have to be an American myself to really understand all the necessary context. What I DO understand is that this is a real good movie, and I will watch it again as soon as it is available over here in cinemas or on streaming services. That's all folks.
  2. Yep. Especially when you take this part of an interview from march into account (as featured on https://news.sky.com/story/oscars-2023-academy-president-says-new-diversity-rules-next-year-wouldnt-change-a-single-film-in-contention-even-historically-12829563 ) "Every single past Oscar nominee for Best Picture would still qualify under new diversity rules being introduced by the Academy Awards next year, according to its President, Janet Yang. Speaking exclusively to Sky News ahead of Sunday's Oscars ceremony, when asked whether a film like All Quiet On The Western Front - top-heavy with white male stars - would still be eligible under the Academy's new criteria (which kicks in in 2024) Yang confirmed: "We did find that, given these new guidelines all the past nominations would still qualify."" Oppenheimer should be able to get it's place in the spotlights no questions asked.
  3. Twister was a great movie back then. The Aunt Meg feast scene makes my wife and me plunder the bloody fridge everytime that scene plays out, no matter what time of the day. And god help us if there are steaks in the freezer.
  4. Why do I have a feeling that in 98% of these "fanfictions" Hänsel und Gretel are portrayed as step siblings only for a very specific reason?
  5. That was the one with the flying ones right? Ahh, what a blast to the past.
  6. What a pleasant surprise. I just finished watching the movie and... well, I nearly had skipped the movie because of some mentions of heavy virtue signaling and orange man bad references (which I am simply so very tired of). What I got instead is a very good Wonder Woman movie that took me on a rollercoster ride of emotions - and I mean that in a good way. I laughted, I bit my finger-nails (literally), I got thrilled and upset and I cried when the makers intended to make me cry. And this is all I want (more: expect) from such a flick. All-in-all this movie felt very light-hearted to me, despite its third act drama, and therefore was the perfect year's end movie for me to leave all the - pardon my french - shit behind me that I got to deal with in 2020. I have to (and will) watch it again to see if I rank it higher than the first one in the end. At the moment I would answer that with a loud and heartfelt "Of course it is!", but then again the used Kleenex' beside me are still wet, so I am still "a bit" under the influence so to speak. 9/10 with a tendency to 10/10.
  7. The Laymen (two aussies who are running a video game YT blog) are VERY convinced... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ5lKVSfA_8 ...so am I. 😊 By the way, that cinema Sam and Raph are visiting: is this a kind of out of world super über cinema? I have never ever seen such a theatre (leather seating, seats that can go into a relax position) here in Germany. Do such things really exist?
  8. Instant ass in seat on release day atm based on that trailer. That said, I'm a sucker for Super 8 and Stranger Things, so as for me, I don't need the old crew back anymore after seeing they're going the 80s, Spielberg/Abrams, Goonies route. Never thought I would say that anytime soon.
  9. Yeah. You could easily confuse that with This ain't Charlie's Angels XXX. What were they thinking?
  10. Watched it today and was very positively surprised. It has a slow start to set things up and the story is somewhat lukewarm, but the interactions between the actors are point on and funny. Also, this is modern moviemaking done right imo. It caters (meant in a positive way) to both old-school viewers as well as a modern pc crowd and brings these two "opposing forces" together (except maybe the most hardcore ones). And, imo, hits that home. My only qualms are that they underused Richard Roundtree, bringing him very late into the story. But then again these (roughly fifteen) minutes really deliver. Clearly not a masterpiece but an improvement over the year 2000 Shaft movie. I will definately watch it again.
  11. As if anybody could forget Cameron's "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" moment in movie history. But at least he nailed it first take.
  12. As for all this "how dare the effin manchilds raise their voices!" craze... You know, actually both sides are right. With examples like Aladin, Alita and Sonic, I do not see anything wrong to go and tell the filmmakers that this isn't what I want to see on the screen. Of course, every filmmaker, every studio can always say "Eff you, that's our vision, this is how it's going to be! Deal witit!" - and that's totaly fine. They won't get my money, obviously, but kudos to them for going through. Now, I don't know about Aladin (not following the movie, as I have no interest in it) but with Alita the feedback lead to a superior design, making her actually look human. With Sonic... I think we all (well, at least most of us) can agree that the design of the speedy hedgehog is horrible and WILL hurt the movie if they don't do something about it. So getting this kind of heavy backlash is actually helpful, because the filmmakers do see that something is clearly not working here and that they better do something about it if they want their movie to have some success. In the end, these are digital characters, whose feelings cannot be hurt. Then again... imagine a movie that has been made 30 years ago, would be made today instead. A big studio named Warner Bros. announces a new take on an iconic comic book (anti-)hero named Batman. Fans go batshit insane in their delight, since there has been no Batman movie in ages. Then they read further: Tim "Dark Wierdo" Burton as director? Michael "Beetlejuice" Keaton as Batman??? WHAT THE EFF! RAAAAAAAAAGEEEE! Given the fact, that back then fans were in fact so outspoken against Burton and Keaton that this news made it indeed to some media outlets like MTV or cinema magazine (otherwise, I would have known nothing about this back then), this must have been quite the "silent" storm. Now imagine such a "silent" storm in the present internet day and tell me that Warner in fear of their future profits would choose to turn a blind eye to the fan protests. I don't say that the above HAS to happen, but we all can surely imagine it COULD happen. Therefore I am very torn about giving in to fan protests. As a gamer, I know sometimes I have to have my voice get heard when a greedy publisher tries to fuck me and other customers over. When again a game is released unfinished, with missing content, but implemented monetisation mechanics and broken as hell, you simply have to raise your voice or nothing will change. But that is about games, and it's about a "finished" product. This here is about movies that aren't even finished (thank god, in Sonic's case), so I think this is a very delicate issue we are discussing here, that has to be assessed on a case to case basis. In Sonics case, I feel it's justified.
  13. It's an effin' juggernaut. And I am more than happy that I can witness such BO craze for the fourth time now. UN-effin-believable.
  14. Ok, I'm going to play Captain Obvious here and spoil the party. Just because Sonic did an supersonic emp-blast on the road, that doesn't has to be related to the power loss we see in the city and then on the continent. Especially if you consider that the emp scene was shot in daylight and the power outage happened at evening / night. My money would be more on Eggman being responsible for the power outage. Or like General Akbar would put it: it's a trap.
  15. I guess we can be thankful that gramps didn't remembered how much his grandson loved 2 Unlimited back in the 90s. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkEXGgdqMz8
  16. While this may be true, it's also true that the internet doesn't forget. If they don't come up with a very good second trailer to turn around the ship, Sonic is roadkill.
  17. Watched the trailer against all good senses and immediately felt strong Blizzcon 2018 vibes. You know, the one with this guy asking "is this an out of season April fools joke" during the Diablo showcase. Ok, the "You serious?" meme would also fit like a glove. What the heck is ths? A comedy? An action movie? A parody? A furry trap? As it looks now, this will be either the worst movie or the biggest BO disappointment in 2019. Maybe both. Carrey looks good in this though for a man appoaching his 60s.
  18. I don't give a flying f for Game of Thrones may having an impact on Endgame or not or vice versa. I also don't care if Call of Duty or The Division 2 or Fifa 2068 make more money on their release date than Endgame on its OW. You know why that is? It is because this here is neither TV-central.com nor game-informer.net, it is the box-office theory forums. When I care for opening day revenues of games (I do not dispite being a "gamer"), I go to the respective places in the internet. This here is about movies, not games and surely not Game of Thrones. So my apologies if I couldn't care less for your antics.
