  1. I saw the Nancy Drew film starring Emma Roberts from 2007 in theaters and I remember watching it just fine, but losing an important sense of engagement from it. But if they're willing to do it right with a talentef, well-rounded actress like Sophia Lillis, then I'm willing to give this another go.
  2. There would've been a new Science-Fiction film coming out each week during the entirety of August if this had stayed. This is probably for the best; Focus Features probably knows what they're doing with this. So I don't mind waiting a while longer for this if they're going through the effort to make it as good as possible. And on the bright side, there looks to be other features coming out in August that I'll be able to see instead.
  3. That's a lot of people joining the cast... how in the world are they going to fit so many characters into this?
  4. http://deadline.com/2018/04/blindspotting-sundance-lionsgate-release-date-1202280922/ Disregard my rants about the film's competition, because I'm about to make an updated one: Blindspotting is now releasing limited on July 20th and nationwide on July 27th. That means that its wide release is up against Mission: Impossible - Fallout, Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, and, concerningly, the wide expansion of Sorry To Bother You. I don't know what will happen if these films go head to head... Sorry To Bother You might still have time to change its release plan before these two films eat into each other's potential, but I'm not sure where else it would be able to thrive; Blindspotting definitely feels like the buzzier title at this time.
  5. Okay. I just saw the trailer and I'm convinced that this is going to break out in the mainstream. There's a three week separation from The Equalizer 2 and a two week separation from Sorry to Bother You, and that's definitely enough for all three films to have a healthy coexistance. This could be Lionsgate's defining 2018 film and a breakout role for Daveed Diggs.
  6. I'm very interested in seeing the finished product. This'll be a fine film, I'm sure of it.
  7. That kind of behavior keeps people away from anime as a whole... it sours their view of the entire industry. People need to learn respect if they want to be taken seriously. I'll take quality artwork over my own expectations of a fictional show any day of the week.
  8. I never did fix the date in the title of the thread, did I? It's fixed now... Huh! That's pretty good! I think I want to see this if I get the chance. I think Entertainment should bite the bullet and start specializing in this type of film at this rate...
  9. I've tried a few more anime shows as of late. Golden Kamuy is a very gritty show about Saichi Sugimoto, a former soldier in the Japanese-Russo war, who finds a clue to hidden treasure and decides to trek after it despite how the perilous nature of the search. There's some questionable animation choices in this first episode, but it'll really only be an issue for this one episode, as the show will begin to use a little less CGI going forward. Of course, the story and writing are both very strong. As someone who has read the first volume of manga, I advise you not to let some poor-quality CGI deter you from keeping your eye on it -- there's a reason why NBC Universal is involved in the project. The other one that I tried was Libra of Nil Admirari. Based on a video game that was acclaimed for its story but criticized for its gameplay, this series is about a young mistress in a late-1800's-esque setting who, after certain occurrences, learns that she can see the dark auras of cursed tomes, handwritten books that inflict their emotions onto the reader. The art style is different from other animes, as it attempts to evoke a period-piece type of feeling, and the story seems like it could be interesting when it kicks into high gear. Unfortunately, the show seems more interested in being a soap opera and a proponent of male fan-service. I will not be progressing through this one. I think those two, along with Himamatsuri and Megalo Box, are all of the shows that had me interested enough to try their pilot episodes during finals season. Oh, and I find it interesting that Darling in the Franxx caused a very big controversy regarding a certain character's choices. That show didn't strike me as one that was capable of causing an uproar. That's what good writing does. Even if I'm not going to be watching it, I still give kudos to the writers.
  10. I gave it some thought and I decided that Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is my most anticipated film. I really want to see if J.A. Bayona made an Empire Strikes Back.
  11. So the good news is that, on its wide release date, Blindspotting still has its niche that it can appeal to, unless Sorry To Bother You is that much of a breakout as to take attention away. The bad news is, the wide release date has two more wide releases to contend with, no matter how seemingly low-appeal they are: Global Road's A.X.L. and Mirror/LD's Dog Days. If the film has strong appeal, though, I could see this being a nice little modest hit for Lionsgate despite its competition. I haven't seen the trailer yet, but I'm sure that my confidence will rise if I'm as impressed as others are.
  12. Now, here are the results of live playoffs... Team Adam voted in by America: Sharane Calister Rayshun LaMarr saved by coach: Jackie Verna Team Blake voted in by America: Kyla Jade Pryor Baird saved by coach: Spensha Baker Team Alicia voted in by America Britton Buchanan Jackie Foster saved by coach: Christiana Danielle Team Kelly voted in by America: Brynn Cartelli Kaleb Lee saved by coach: D.R. King So in my opinion, some of the better performers were pretty wrongfully snubbed this year - especially WILKES and Terrence Cunningham. But there was always going to be snubs either way with how good this season is. Maybe now that it's the top twelve and it's a managable number, I can start posting the performances on this thread!
  13. It's okay if you don't like it... it's only my personal favorite film of all time... but that doesn't mean other people have to like it... *sniffle*
  14. That very unfortunate typo in the the thread title should be fixed in my opinion... The film is being released on the same day as another from the same distributor? Huh.
  15. I'd definitely consider Unsane to be a horror film in my opinion.

  19. This advice may sound petty, but it isn't wise to hate the man doing the action; however, it is wise to hate the action itself. Everyone is better than an action such as that; especially in a theater where people are trying to focus. I mean, nobody would do that to an opera singer, so why would they do it to a sound effect?

I just think that the gross is extremely sad, especially for a film with a 90% RT.
