  1. I'm really not surprised at all that a film like this would move from a hectic May to a June that is much more mellow by comparison. Now its main competition is not a competing comedy (Life of the Party), but a survival thriller (Adrift), so it may make a little more than it would've.
  2. "There lives are changed when their monthly book club reads Fifty Shades of Grey." The thought of a book like that influencing people's lives is scary to me...
  3. Then again. Shiver Miyamoto himself is a producer; if the filmmakers want to do something interesting, they can approach him directly to get approval. And Miyamoto isn't afraid of doing interesting things as a game developer. So things may just turn out okay with him as a producer, because I'd be hardpressed to find anyone on Earth that knows Mario better than him.
  4. This is a disappointing development. Playmobil always felt like the wholesome alternative to Lego, and this could've been a different, lighter take on The Lego Movie if done right, but the history of live-action/animation hybrids makes me feel like respecting the feel of the source material isn't the goal of the production. Having the Monster Trucks people handle this is a bad idea in my opinion.
  5. I'm gonna make a potentially bold prediction by saying Maze Runner will maintain its #1 lead over Winchester. The latter film is receiving bad reviews and limited exposure.
  6. 1. The 15:17 to Paris 2. Samson 3. Black Panther 4. Annihilation 4. Tomb Raider 6. Isle of Dogs 7. Strangers: Prey at Night 8. The Party 9. 7 Days in Entebbe 10. Pacific Rim: Uprising
  7. That was something that I had to think about for a long time, on whether or not I should vote for myself. And I don't actually think that I'm as funny as other people on this site. But I saw that other people wanted to vote for me, so I did it for them, not for myself, but for the people that wanted me in. I thought it'd be something funny in its own right if I made it in. That's one of my frequent prayers- to be selfless rather than selfish- so I do apologize to everyone that feels like they may be upset at me for this; it wasn't my intention to get myself in, it was my intention to make other people happy by my inclusion, and I think I made some people happy. But I already know of other people in the category I want to vote for ahead of me when it comes time to vote for the winner, because there's plenty of other deserving candidates in that category other than me. Hopefully this makes any sense.
  8. I'll do a nomination count, just for fun (though not counting worst picture) 15 - The Shape of Water 14 - Blade Runner 2049; Star Wars: The Last Jedi 11 - Get Out 8 - Dunkirk 6 - Lady Bird; Logan 5 - Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; War for the Planet of the Apes 4 - Call Me By Your Name; Coco; Baby Driver; Wonder Woman 3 - The Big Sick; Beauty and the Beast; Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2; It 2 - The Disaster Artist; The Greatest Showman; Molly's Game; Thor: Ragnarok
  9. These are some great nominees. Nothing I'm terribly mad about, to be honest. It'll be hard when the time to vote comes around.
  10. I felt pretty bad when I ran out of space for this, but I'm really happy that it was able to make it here! A very good piece of pop art that deserves its nomination!
  11. Congratulations to Call Me By Your Name; I've heard great things about it, and I'm sure it deserves its nomination as a piece of quality filmmaking!
  12. Logan is a very deserved nomination in my opinion! Very happy to see it make the list! Dunkirk is one of my favorite films of the year! Very happy to see it make the list!
  13. This film might've been the film that had me react the most. This film had me sinking backwards into my chair. In a good way. I am completely fine with this choice.
  14. First is a good time to get the reveal out of the way. Personally, I think this is a great film, but there's probably plenty of people typing angry comments as I'm typing my lenient one.
  15. Same! A whole year of watching movies for this, overshadowed by quite a bit of casual voting... ...But I'll be glad to do it again this year! (*grumble*)
  16. I literally cannot ask for a better Best Director lineup, really. All six of them are great choices. That's the toughest category for me to vote in.
  17. How many innuendos am I going to waltz into by accident?! I think there's a high chance my club becomes a running joke too, especially if it fails.
  18. I'm going to be stern for this. This is a great pool of Actor nominees. A great one. But I have to admit that I think Gary Oldman was snubbed for his masterful portrayal of Winston Churchill. And there were many other potential candidates from non-blockbuster films (like Charliee Hunnam and John Cho) that have been snubbed too. But with the strength of this lineup, I'm not mad at all. Everyone here deserves to be here.
