  1. I think calling them samurai is worse than the white savior thing currently in this film
  2. But unless you can support your claims with actual numbers... like do the math if 20-30 M does not affect box office that much how can it affect per screen average that much either? And even if some ppl were mistakenly led to the movie theatre if they didn't like the movie itself the wom would've dropped too. But the reality is that the per screen average continued to be high throughout its run. also I think you're the one that's not seeing the whole picture... do you live in China? It's kind of hard to base everything that's going on just based on internet activity. A lot of older people and stuff don't even check weibo, forums etc... a lot of the wom is through wechat or actually talking with others. So what you can see on the internet isn't necessarily a good representation of what's going on with all parts of the population.
  3. Lmao... but all these movies have evidence of ghost screenings and fudging a little. If there weren't more ppl watching kungfu yoga it's numbers wouldn't have been rising so much. I agree fudging is a problem but movies can't just fudge their way to number 1, especially since it started at a lower share of screens
  4. LLL not doing well coincides with my expectations, even though I haven't watched it cuz it's not my type of movie, from what I see of the plot it doesn't even make sense as Vday movie. I've seen a couple posts on Chinese forums saying it helped them break up with their bf XD
  5. Well I'm excited to see kungfu yoga's box office rise. It's always fun when there's a black horse. I wonder what it's final will be though, and I may have to check this movie out it sounds fun!
  6. Yeah kungfu yoga word of mouth seems just slightly better from the website ratings, but maybe in person it gets better. Or the other movies are just that bad. also you can find evidence for fudging like that for all movies so it's really not conclusive.
  7. I can be the only one betting on Great Wall then... Journey to the West movies seem overdone to me and boring
  8. Also I believe ghosts are more of a no-no along with past lives reincarnation that kind of stuff
  9. Yeah I don't know how well big names in movies do (looks at LoG)... I've learned to ignore the drama between fans, I don't think the general audience would care that much... it seems like even if the ratings are kinda low it's still an enjoyable adventure movie, so I'm looking forward to it.
  10. Have you watched the trailer? I watched it, I think it was posted here too? The cgi is not that great... not sure about interest level from the Chinese audience. It will probably do at least a couple hundreds of million though I plan on watching Time Raiders when it becomes available for me... I know this series is quite popular in China which is probably why the movie is doing well. (it really seems like IP and genre ensures some kind of base figure for a movie's box office in China) I'm kind of disappointed already that it doesn't follow the books storyline though, but maybe because the webdrama was so recent and they felt like it would be too stale?
  11. It depends on plot, genre and directors, though I think it depends on plot the most. i don't want to argue with fans but all the idol actors are pretty bad, with varying degrees of badness... The one in time raiders is comparably ok... But a lot of the younger generation actors started out as idols with no acting experience/training like the other main in that movie.
  12. Never gone as a movie, I don't think Liu yifei has a very big draw looking at her past movies especially romance movies. As for Kris his first movie was also a romance movie with the added benefit of a famous actress-director. Also I don't know how well the young adult genre is doing this year. Although it did quite well the past couple years it seems like the fad is slowly fading. Anyways I don't think it will do spectacularly at the box office
  13. It's interesting cuz I think the Chinese market works differently. They have more flock mentality and will watch movies if they see a lot of other ppl watching it or super high box office. And it seems like Internet publicity does affect Chinese audiences a lot.
  14. From what I saw in forums etc, they didn't like how the main characters (guys) were not very good looking. Also overall not futuristic looking enough. And also not enough big explosions etc. The fight scenes and the concept of the Force also seem like a weakened version of wuxia genre to them and not even done well.
