  1. If Lucasfilm wants to bring Donnie Yen to future SW episodic movies, they can cast him as the descendant of Imwe family. The child inherits the face of his ancestor Chirrut Imwe. It sounds logical enough.
  2. Yeah, for Disney it won't be "just China", excuse me, "just China"??? It's the second biggest film market and a soon-to-be biggest market of the world. Disney has tried everything possible to save SW's future box office and merchandising in China with a desperate attempt, and it's very clear that they don't plan to give up at all. China is a promising market and Chinese moviegoers are easy to please, they just want to be entertained by an audience-friendly, creative movie with a decent plot and acting, it's not that hard, actually it's not a problem at all. They never reject and harass the new stuffs, then force the studio to make nostalgic films and call it "loyal to the original" like US fanboys. That fanboy's belief is so twisted and weird. I never imagined that SW brand would suffer this fate. but unfortunately, thank to TFA and SW fanboy, SW lost the chance.
  3. So Finn is your favourite character? We get it. I don't have any problems with him either. I watch SW because it's SW, simple as that, not because of any single characters. But people was talking about the fact that many Chinese moviegoers didn't like Finn, his acting was bad and awkward, they felt uncomfortable every time he showed up. It's not biased, it's the truth, the reality. Do you know that Han Solo is one of the most favourite TFA characters in Weibo's public poll, while Finn is left far behind? Ford's charm and acting woos the young audience, despite the fact that now he's just a supporting character and a 74-year-old actor.
  4. Many Chinese people that I talked to have reacted the same. He gave them an unforgettable first impression. They felt like he was being in labor every time he showed up in the screen with his weird panting noises and awkward acting. Finn is Jar Jar Binks of this trilogy, but he isn't just a supporting character, he's the goddamn male lead, tada~~~ So... Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy will become the new King and Queen of Scifi, right? These two can please every markets, including US and China. I hope SW fanboys won't bitch and complain when the other franchises defeat SW's future movies in the worldwide BO, because they are the only one who want SW franchise to stay that way. P/s: actually, in some European countries, Ro1 stayed in No.1 for a just a few days.
  5. I'm trying to read those negative feedbacks in Douban and Maoyan... It's just... the same like before, people think Ro1 is a snoozefest, again! The first half of Ro1 is messy, it makes the Chinese audience feel impatient, people have to play with the game on their smartphone and wait for something better to happen...
  6. That is the ultimate power of nostalgia and the great marketing team of Disney, people didn't feel the Christmas spirit anymore, all they could do was feel the hype and curiosity of "TFA event".
  7. I agree with some people about "TFA was an unimaginative and uncreative movie", even Lucas felt the same, he was so upset with what Disney did to TFA, it made SW's universe look so poor. The main characters weren't well-received too. The US felt annoyed by Rey's marysue-ness, while the Chinese disliked Finn for being a weak, uncharismatic comic relief sidekick. Nostalgia is a real double-edged sword, it could give the grumpy old fans (who accept nothing but a vintage, look-exactly-like-the-original SW movie) a back-to-childhood festival, but it could also reduce the chance to gain new international fans for SW franchise.
  8. I understand. But i didn't mention the worst part, those young Chinese fans found Finn unheroic, weak and uncharismatic. Basically, they just ...hate him and try to ignore him as much as they can. They'd rather support the idea of ReyxKylo than Finn. ReyxKylo has already become popular and draws more attention than Finn/Rey's dynamic. But Finn is the main protagonist of this sequel, no one can undo it, the audience will be forced to see his face. I'm not against those fans and the couple they support (in fact, i like that idea. It has a potential to become an epic, complicated relationship/love story if Disney can execute it well), but it's unlikely that ReyxKylo will happen, i'm not even sure if Kylo can survive or not. I'm really worried about this triology's Chinese box office. I was trying to make it less hopeless.
  9. Oh, it's great to hear that, so far I've only chatted with some Chinese fangirls on tumblr and they said that they're only rooting for ReyxKylo (as i remember, they named that couple Reylo) and don't care about the others. Well i mean SW franchise has more elements than just ...Rey and Kylo but they're only interested in that couple...
  10. It's understandable. TFA made a bad impression on Chinese audiences, just like BvS and DCEU. I don't expect Ro1 and Ep8 can earn more than TFA did.
  11. yeah, a superheroes franchise which releases many movies with the same formula, same type of protagonists/ antagonists for over 7 years but still doing fine and doesn't give a sh*t about the thing called "superheroes fatigue". And the usa's beloved franchise which will only release one movie per year until 2019 and now some clueless internet dudes are starting to worry about "SW fatigue"...
  12. Honestly, why is James Cameron even trying at this point? With Avatar I mean. He always meant Avatar to be the Star Wars for this generation and the first one had a rough start. It's fun to look at, but it's boring as hell and it had ZERO cultural impact. No one talks about that film. It has influenced nothing. I've seen TV commercials that affected people more than Avatar. He has taken so long getting this thing going and unfortunately Star Wars has literally started again. I think James Cameron just needs to move on.
  13. Hard to disagree Avatar does not have that crazy fanbase like Marvel, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings. We are not in 2009 anymore.
